Bit of a long shot this, Charlie Sneddon played for Stanley between 1953 and 1962, his granddaughters would very much like any photos of him in action if anyone has any . Please pm me on here.

Charlie was bald at a very young age. He must have been in his 20s when Galbraith bought him. A classy player

The Observer could be a good bet. Action pictures of Saturdays games taken by Garth Dawson used to be in the following Tuesdays Observer |
Re: Charlie Sneddon
Pretty certain the team is early 1956-57 season as Bob McNicol and Jimmy Mason only played a few games together during the start of that season. I have the same picture on a bubble gum card.

Anders rather than Mason/McNicol. We can't recall just when McNicol signed, but we are thinking Mason signed in55 but only played maybe a dozen games before he left. It was a long time ago and memories can get distorted. |
Re: Charlie Sneddon
There is pretty good footage and a quite lengthy interview with him on a "Accrington Stanley - Legend, Myth, Reality" Video I've had since the mid 90's.
Have also managed to transfer it to DVD if it's of any use, I could burn a few extra copies for anyone who wants one. |
Re: Charlie Sneddon
I have just checked the caption on the photo I posted and it says 1956/7 team.
I don't know where I got the 60/61 from. |
Re: Charlie Sneddon
Anyone aware of this site ?
Some pretty useful information on here, not sure how accurate it all is though. Most of the players names have links to them too. http://www.neilbrown.newcastlefans.c...accrington.htm |

Re: Charlie Sneddon
I was at Liverpool for the cup game and the team was McInnes, Ashe, Mcreadie, Sneddon, Harrower, Hunter, Cocker, Wright, Stewart, Dick, Scott. I could be wrong on Cocker and Scott they may have switched wings? Other left wingers at that time were, Norrie McReadie, Henderson and a good friend of mine Willie Millar but Bert Scott played most games on the left wing prior to Jimmy Anders.

Re: Charlie Sneddon
Course if anyone has a program from that game I could be corrected.
|
Re: Charlie Sneddon
I have a programme from that game (from eBay, I'm not that ancient!).
Will dig it out this weekend. |

Re: Charlie Sneddon
Years ago I was delivering solvents to Rolls Royce at Hillingdon near Glasgow.
The chief security officer came to me after seeing Accrington on the tanker and told me he used to be the goalkeeper at Stanley. It turned out he was McQueen. We had a good chat about the town and I pretended I knew a bit about Stanley. The load wasn't due until the day after but McQueen arranged for me to unload that day so I could get back home, all because of our connections to Accrington. |
Re: Charlie Sneddon
Can anyone remember the home game against Hull City when Raich Carter played for them or the 3rd round cup game against Portsmouth with Englands Jimmy Dickinson playing.
|
Re: Charlie Sneddon
Remember the cup game very vaguely,wi Pompey, seem to think we crabbed a draw at Peel Park n lost the replay.? never seen as many away fans in me life walking up Burnley Rd, mind Pompey were a top side back then.:)

Dave did say that Charlie Sneddon was on one of the big posters at the exhibition, it's possible that may be up in the clubhouse now |
