Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
A (somewhat biased) opposition view of tomorrow's game. AFC Wimbledon Blog: PREVIEW: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Don't think its that bad a review.
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Nothing in that review to argue with; I'd call it accurate rather than biased.
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
The omens are good. Bryan Hughes has just tweeted.
Good luck to all @ASFCofficial at @AFCWimbledon today. This was my 1st away league fixture. Won 2-0 and sent us on a 13 game unbeaten run... |
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Went that game Alvin,Hughes on the day was different class, how we could do with him today!, just remembered I got a £60 parking ticket as well :)

Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Bettinelli
Hunt Aldred Atkinson Naylor Mingoia Murphy Richardson Joyce Canton Odejayi Screams 'playing for the draw' to me with Hatfield not selected but hopefully Caton and Mingoia will get involved with Odejayi's play and we'll have something positive out of this. |
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Screams ridiculously lightweight to me, when 3 pts are getting required desperately,
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
1-0 Stanley the big lad.:)
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Odejayi off
Sky Sports News reporter said he reacted to a challenge and the ref consulted the linesman who said send him off. |
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Naz also sent off fer berating the liner.:D
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
1-1 oh sh1t.:(
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
A draw is not ideal in our current predicament
But when you look at it as a point away, playing with 10 men, I don't think its to shabby. Would love to know if the sending off was deserved. |
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Think I need to sit down - can't believe I've just clicked 'like' on one of Dav007's posts
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Obviously Naz didn't think so.

Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Celebrating an away point with ten men with a glass of wine sure beats bemoaning another defeat. Surely we can build on this!
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
From the sound of the bits I heard guts & endevour that's the Stanley I know & love so that will do me nicely
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Think everyone woulda took an away point wi 10 men before K.O. so well done onwards n upwards hopefully.:)
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Unfortunately had to follow the match via the Beeb from work. Saw we were 1-0 up at HT but Odejayi sent off, question is was it warranted? will have to watch the FL show later. But as others have said, gut and determination to at least hang on for a point will do me, and listening to JB on Radio Lancs sounds like some us may be judging him too soon yes I was one of them). I really want it to work for him and here's hoping for 3 points when we next play on 19th
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
No FL show tonight due to the farcical international break for the spoilt babies of the "top" 2 divisions whose teams can't make a do of losing a couple of players out of their vast, expensive squads. Sky Sports news have the goals from 8 to 9 I think.

And now a review. WARNING: may contain lots of whinging. About everything. AFC Wimbledon Blog: REVIEW: Wimbledon 1-1 Accrington Stanley
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Womblecharlie's pre match summary was accurate, but his post match view somewhat biased.
From where I stood, squeezed into a corner surrounded by Stanley stalwarts and a few local "premiership" worshipers come to support the Reds, I thought Stanley more than deserved the point. 3 points may have been greedy (but more than welcome) and I thought we could have gone in at half time 0-3, had we had more luck. But then it is 2013. Unlucky for some and especially us. The ref did give Stanley the benefit of many doubts but then totally undid everything by the ludicrous sending off. It ruined the game as a contest and I'd rather have had fewer petty free kicks than have our most dangerous player sent off. The wombles had been niggling Kayode all of the first half, but nothing that isn't seen at most games. But when he went up to challenge a high ball on the half way line at the end of the first half, the Womble player clearly went up with an elbow in Kayode's head. Of course the linesman, who seemed to spend most of his time watching the ref, wouldn't have seen that. It was silly of Kayode to get involved in handbags a deux, but it takes two to tango and, significantly, in the immediate aftermath, the Womble player made himself scarce. Leaving their no 8 (why does every other team but Stanley seem to have a nasty little piece of work like him?) to turn it into a bun fight. Stanley did well today. Bettenelli, Aldred, Winnard, Naylor, Mingoia, Kayode were excellent and all the team gave their all. There was no-one shirking, and no sign of heads dropping. Well done to them all. |
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
ok, today was a good performance; it really was. defensively we were sound. The sending off was unquestionable. I've had a drink so will leave it at that for now. We will turn the c corner.
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
I didn't see the red card incident I'm afraid, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was the wrong decision - it wouldn't have been the only one today! Don't get me wrong, in no way do I think Wimbledon deserved 3 points - but I do feel we should've been able to take them anyway.

We all know life and football ain't fair but I just thought the sending off ruined a good competitive game. No defence in the eyes of the 'blazers' but I heard it was the first time Kayode had been sent off which, given the stick strikers get as a matter of course, doesn't suggest he's a hothead. But, whatever the result, thanks to all those Dons fans who gave us such a warm welcome. |
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Did not have a clear line of sight on the red card incident but was confident of 3 points with Stanley bossing the first half. Did all they could to defend the lead and gutted for Beatts and the lads that they conceded at last knockings. Heartening performance and shame Kayode will be missing for 3 games - chance for Marcus to establish himself.

Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Still struggling to work out how exiles wife ate that large meal in fat boys cafe !! :) ,his summary is how I saw it and with eleven men we would have won-simple !Atkinson going off was a blow but the team rallied, and did it. Again after the sending off,lot of team spirit, very encouraging signs
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Good result today, we have to build on this though otherwise it will be a waste. Two home games coming up and we really need to get a win to get our season up and running.

Thanks to the travellers for their views. It was murder following the match on the live text thingy, but I was celebrating last night after cooling off. Bring on Oxford, but someone will have to arrest the Constable.

Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Your right Phil ,it was murph who got his head to the ball and should have scored, maybe he was waiting to be clattered by the keeper which didn't happen. The other turning point for me was them bringing on the coloured left winger who proceeded to rip Richardson to pieces with blistering pace.
Hunt IMHO should have helped him,but with one man down our shape would have been effected, Just a mention for our keeper, who was excellent in all aspects of his game . |
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
I saw the sending off on Sky highlights and it looked deserved. Midson fouled Kayode and as he landed he appeared to roll his elbow into his head, its not clear cut though because the camera just moves off it as the incident happens.

|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Not only clueless, but illiterate. Couldn't make head or tail of his post. Actually, I think the word "black" is preferred these days to "coloured" in this crazy PC world in which we have the misfortune to be expected to conform.

I finally came out the closet yesterday and admitted to Murphs dad that I was a fan of our Davo !,I know folk will think it's worse than being a racist, but I sort of agree with a lot he says.
Plus he ain't afraid of putting his head above the parapet!! Sorry if I have offended anyone, but I needed to get it off my chest :) |

They had two wide men playing, one White and one coloured, one was good ,one was useless, given that they interchange and you didn't know there names, what PC term should I have used?.If the other lad was on fire,I would have said white player!!!,is that racist??

Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Great trip to the dons again! One off my favourites! Unfortunate the get the win but a point is still good!! The sending off wasn't one for me as it was both of them and both seemed to get over it and walk away too!
However just because it was 10 against 11 I still felt we could play good football on the floor like the second half but the dons battered us for the last 45 with us sitting massively deep! Great defensive effort though and the keeper was superb! A big shout to Piero on the wing! He was great most of the game and was surprised with the passion the effort and the big challenges he were putting in! Another day we would of just held on! Think loosing our main striker is a massive blow for the following next few games ! I think consistency of the same starting 11 will bring us success in the next few games! |

Sadly, UK has gained a rather overblown sense of faux outrage in the last few years over much & more seen as "Not PC" due to successive erosions mainly thanks to whining liberal leftist exponents. The lad used a word, you found it inappropriate, how many others didn't, let it go & let's get back to the subject matter eh? |
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Back to the game, think mingola deserves a mention, thought he put in a real shift blocking up that channel and offering an outlet.Just a little whinge, should we have subbed him in injury time?,it's ok running the clock down, but the cross for the equaliser came from the area he had blocked up.
Maybe he cramped up,I don't know,but it was a big call |
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Its a real shame we wont have Odejayi for the next 3 games,
as the team is now set up to play off a target man, the obvious replacement must be Mr. Beattie himself? |
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Agree Davo,he is starting to look the part as he gets used to the lads around him, will be a massive loss
|

Is Naismith an option as a striker?

Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
F19, as ever, you're right about Mingoia having a great game; he threw himself into the breach a few times. Whether he could have prevented the cross that produced their goal (which was, I regret to have to say, a cracking header) is another matter.
You're also right about their sub, the lad who was coloured black (Chris Arthur?), who came on as a left wing and gave Richardson, who is coloured ginger, a right going over. As for FatBoys special, I'm still digesting it. Hope we get more chance to speak at Northampton. |

It would be a bit of a luxury having two geriatrics up front but I wonder how well Webber would play picking up the many lay-offs from Kayode. Richardson tries but was just too late arriving on a couple of occasions on Saturday. Don't know how fit Mr. Beattie is these days, but his reputation might keep a couple of defenders tied up. |

Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
football19: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm certain Mingoia was still on the pitch when their goal went in. They scored on 86 mins Piero went off on 91 mins.
The game in general. Its the first one I've seen in the flesh all season, having watched us against Pompey on tele. I thought we played alright. In the first half the only tactic Wimbledon had was to hit the ball long from midfield to the wingers. Our full backs dealt with that well. We created three good chances in the first half with Richardson agonisingly close to knocking in from close range at the far post. Mention for Lee Naylor. His set pieces were excellent and he did well at full back. Might be worth thinking about, when Laurence is back, putting Naylor at left side so he can get a few crosses in from open play. Piero, as mentioned in other posts was excellent too. I'd like to see him get on the ball more, maybe when we're at home that might be easier as we'll have more of the play. Marcus came on at half time. Now he was absolutely clattered a couple of time in tackles from behind and I think that might have knocked his confidence a little as he didn't do enough to win headers for me. But he'll learn and get better. Another mention for Dean who grafted and grafted and deserves to be kept in the side for the next game. Obviously the game changed with the sending off as we no longer had 5 in midfield. I personally thought it was a sending off. Kayode was being fouled all first half and not getting anything. He got in another tangle and unfortunately for us, when he got up, he dug his forearm into their lad. You can't do that as it gives the ref no option, if either him or his lino sees it. And it was right in front of the lino! It was a good point and normally I'd be happy. But the thing is hard fought points away from home with 10 men mean chuff all if you don't follow it up with 3 at home. We need to be ruthless and show the fight of Piero, Dean and Murphy (who battled for headers all first half high up the pitch even though he was playing in midfield). I know its tempting to praise the lads for Saturday, but if I was the manager (and thank god I'm not) I would have half had a go at them. Imagine the boost from winning with 10 men at a team with such a good home record. They need to learn that if you're going to get anywhere in football you have to take your chances. That means not losing it when you've been kicked, elbowed, clattered (see Kayode). Trying something different to win some headers or get a foothold up front (Marcus). Throwing yourself at the ball if you get in at the back post (Richardson). The odd point here or there won't keep us up. There are 35 games left and we need 47 points. Thats something like 13 wins and 8 draws. Or 12 wins and 11 draws. Around 20/21 good results out of 35 games. Piero has to stay in the side. So does Dean. Not only did they graft, but they made the right decisions on the ball, competed really well and were disciplined. I reckon we CAN stay up. It doesn't mean we WILL. The task at hand is huge. Far bigger than last year. We have to start winning. |
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
No need to worry fellas, your annual starter for 6 is only round the corner!
:( |
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
You maybe right potter,at the time I was surprised piero was taken off as he was one of our best players on the day
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
See the club have appealed against Kayode's dismissal.
High stakes as 'frivolous' appeals incur an additional match ban, I understand. Let's hope the evidence is in his favour. |

Here is the video for those who missed it.
AFC Wimbledon 1-1 Accrington | Video | Watch TV Show | Sky Sports Must say the sending off looked harsh to me, although as Macca said, the camera rolls quickly off the scene. Violent conduct? I don't think so. |
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Mmm, s'funny how things look different on film. I believed I saw the Wimbledon player jump up with an elbow aimed at Kayode's head but, on seeing this view, it appears he had his back to the Stanley player.
Can only hope the club have a good argument if it's appealing. |

Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
From what I saw watching that clip, there was no intent from Odejayi and certainly no malicious movement of the arm to the opposing players head, he appeared to be using his arm to stop himself. For me, if the FA do not rescind that card then they are a joke, because I have seen much worse get a way with murder e.g. Callum McManaman last season.
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Just like I said , Stanley get nothing as the Red card still stands.
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Are we sure we appealed to the Football authorities and not the Netball authority? Not a man's game any more.
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
The only slightly good news is that the 'blazer bureaucrats' didn't regard it as a 'frivolous' appeal and add another game on the ban. Presumably because the elbow Kayode received wasn't frivolous.

Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
When does the loan period end?
|
Re: Wimbledon vs. Accrington Stanley
Kayode signed a 3 month deal on the 10th September.
