Never played for England, but trainer for England when they won the world cup in 1966.

Jimmy Mulkerrin, inside forward played in 50s.
Lives in Accrington, now in his 80s.

From our memory, there is only one player who played for Stanley in our time, who gained a full International cap after he left the club. That was Henry Cockburn. He was on loan from Manchester United, played a season with Stanley, went back to Manchester, and in his first season back, won a England cap. He then went on to play about a dozen more games for England.

Don't assume Wikipedia is infallible but, in this instance, if you look more closely, you'll notice he's listed as being Stanley's 'guest' during WW2.

I agree there is no mention in that link Barrie, but my hubby saw him play for Stanley

He also remembers Harry Holdcroft, (goalkeeper for England) playing for Stanley around that same time in this team: Holdcroft, Reeday, Wilson, Molloy, Briggs, Malcolm, Conroy, Rothwell, Mercer, Keeley, Clark. Briggs (centre half) signed from Man U after Cockburn went back. Some of those players were still, or had just come out of the forces.

Played against Henry Cockburn once, he was in his 40s and led most others a merry dance, what a class player.

In his obituaries it says he was a guest at Accrington Stanley before 1943. He also played a couple of seasons with Bury after leaving United. Died 2004.

I can find four full England internationals:
Bill Bradshaw played as a teenager for Stanley and helped them to the 1903 Lancashire Combination title. He moved to Blackburn Rovers and won five England caps as a wing-half.
Billy Watson, wing-half with Burnley, won three caps between 1913 and 1919. He played a few games for Stanley in 1925 when he was reserve-team coach.
Tom "Pongo" Waring won five caps with Villa as a striker in 1931-32, and played for Stanley in 1938-39.
Goalkeeper Jack Hacking was Stanley's player-manager in 1935, had won three caps as an Oldham player in 1928-29.
In addition Joe Walton, who was Stanley's left-back and captain 1961-62 had won an unofficial "Victory" cap against Scotland in 1946, and also played for the Football League.

Malcolm Butler, Full-back post-war, won one Irish cap in 1939 while with Blackpool.
John McCandless, a left-winger with Stanley in 1923, won five Irish caps between 1912 and 1921.
Pat Nelis, striker, was transferred to Nottingham Forest for a record fee in 1922, and won an Irish cap later that year.

Despite all the Scottish connections, I cannot think of a single Scottish full cap, but Ian Gibson, who played with Stanley in 1959, won Scotland U-23 honours in the 60s.
