Re: Bavs in goal
Perhaps Bavs was at Southport? stranger things have happened.:D

Re: Bavs in goal
Rumour has it that Bavs has fallen out with JB. A frustrating game today with bags of possession creating little infront of goal. First time I saw Naismith in pre season I thought he was a talented player but needs to be told to get his head up, and I've been saying it ever since. He tries to win the game solely on his own bat and you just know he is never going to play his team mates in on goal. Needs a good talking to!

Re: Bavs in goal
Heard same rumour re Dunbavin. If it's true, it's poor form on his part. Whilst he may be frustrated by being on the bench recently, he should have the experience to know that things can change very quickly in football and his wages were paid when he was out for a big chunk of last season.
Can only hope he's got permission to be away from the ground when there's a first team game at home, otherwise it's not going to reflect well on him. Let's hope club clarify the situation quickly |
Re: Bavs in goal
quite a few people were saying that bavs has gone to southport despite knowing that his chance had come...
|
Re: Bavs in goal
Marcus was on the bench at Carrow Road today.....
|
Re: Bavs in goal
Bettenelli will be a big miss, but good luck to him sitting on Fulham's bench. Maybe he'll be back. But it's a great opportunity for Mr Dawber to show what he's made of. As to the subject of the thread, I'm happy to accept JB's explanation of Dunbavin's absence, rather than rumours, for now. Time will tell, but, if rumours do prove to be true  I'd be less worried about losing Mr Dunbavin's services than others in the squad.
|
Re: Bavs in goal
Did i miss summat from J.B.s explanation? Thought he said Dunbavin was not in the squad i thought? If so that can mean for a multitude of reasons to me n is an avoidance of stating any reason.
|
Re: Bavs in goal
I heard for a few games this season JB was naming a squad without bavs not included on the bench ! And apparently they found out Marcus was going back to Fulham but because of his sulking at not even getting on the bench today JB picked Dawber instead of Bavs! Think that was the last straw...
Bavs is a great character and player to have at the club and in the dressing room but more than likely JB has wanted to stamp his authority on the team and doesn't like people like Bavs! |
Re: Bavs in goal
Get rid . Southport will b club for pal and betting on too.cav is in talks too
|
Re: Bavs in goal
Would have taken a point before kick off as York are a well organised team with a good spine, indeed they were unbeaten against Burton,Oxford and rochdale in there previous games.
I thought overall we edged it and Dawbs was rarely tested. Some solid performances, hunty did well and Joycy worked hard. |
Re: Bavs in goal
Bavs is a good keeper for league 2 who has continued to improve.
Some of the comments on this forum where disgraceful after the Newport game, the same people had to eat humble pie after his heroics a few days later at Middlesbrough. I would like some facts instead of rumours as to his absence |

Re: Bavs in goal
Was GUTTED when I heard the news about Benitelli I must admit. :( Typical that both Fulham's number 1 (Steklenburg) and 3 (Etheridge) are BOTH injured which meant he sat on the bench yesterday at Carrow Road. Fingers crossed we can get him back.
As for Bavs, A club stalwart that's for sure, as well as being absolutely crackers. But how long has Bav's been here and been in and out of the side?!? No doubt about it before his injury a couple of years ago he was the best keeper in the League, those 15 or so games he really was magnificent. The 0-5 away loss at Oxford sticks in my mind. It really could and should have been 0-10 that day if it wasn't for him. As good a shot stopper as we have ever had, but unfortunately you need more than that at League 2 level. How may clangers have we seen?!?! IF he goes, which looks likely, I do wish him well. ......... As for Dawber he looked a little shaky yesterday, (especially after the knock he took on his knee) but who can blame him?? His first league start at 19, on boxing day in front of a big crowd. Despite that I thought he did very well. The lads obviously like him and who knows, another couple of games without mistakes and he might stake his claim for the number 1 shirt. |
Re: Bavs in goal
Having tried it once (no-one else would) I realised the old joke about having to be crackers to be a goalie had the ring of truth.
Mr Dunbavin has been a stalwart for the club and, as you pointed out, he had a purple patch a while ago. But, not wishing to raise Davo's hackles, I think your summary is spot on, Smudge. He is/was a tremendous stopper of shots and penalties, but I've seen vampires more willing to tackle a cross. I wondered whether he was destined to take on the role of goalkeeping coach at Stanley but, whatever happens, I hope it's for the best for both him and Stanley. |

Re: Bavs in goal
Was very suprised we only had one keeper, especially as young Daws has been out for a while injured.
I dont know the rules, but cant you get special emergency loans were keepers are concerned?. Saying that, yound Dawbs did ok once the nerves disappeared, needs to brush up on his out of hands kicking tho (seems to favour the outside of his boot). Regarding Bavs,it just seems hes not part of JBs plans, simple really, great bloke, daft and unpredictable and a legend at Acci !! There are a lot of good players who are trying to force there way into the team, which creates good competition, which inturn benefits the team. The key is good management and JBs got his hands full as no one likes sitting on the bench/stands. |
Re: Bavs in goal
We do have Wolland from the youth team, who I think is 17?? Must be youngest number 1 +2's in League football at the moment :)
Im assuming Dawber will play against Southend then JB will look at the Benitelli situation again. |
Re: Bavs in goal
Give Dawber a chance , I think he did OK on Boxing Day , nervous , well maybe, but surely that is a natural feeling for a big event. Good luck to him and hope he saves many future goals.Good luck to Ian Dunbavin too where ever he is.

Re: Bavs in goal

Re: Bavs in goal
Paul Cook is not a snake, neither is Leam.
They moved on to a bigger club with more ambition. If they go up, they will have proven it was the right move. |

And Leam, as some folk repeatedly (and wrongly) told us, wasn't up to the task, and if he wasn't replaced immediately, we'd inevitably be relegated; not "I think"; "fact" .... As, of course, with Beats this season |

No doubt the return of Marcus is a welcome one as a Keeper he has blossomed at Stanley and has a Big future in the game.
|
Re: Bavs in goal
They didnt get Cook from Sligo as he wasn't proven in the football league?
His performance at Stanley proved his ability. |

|
Re: Bavs in goal
You mean you and Coley DON'T know?
|
Re: Bavs in goal
No.
Not got a clue. Did we play them while cook was in charge? |
Re: Bavs in goal
Chesterfield were impressed by our display when Cookies Accy side lost 4-3 over there due to the fact we played such good football with limited resources.
I have no beef with PC. If you're working at Tesco and Asda offer you double your wage for an easier job with greater chances of career progression you'd snap their hands off. Off the field he ushed in a new era of professionalism that JB has continued with and improved further. I have always been disillusioned with the fact that PC is a pariah Leam is "a good lad" who is "wished well" despite the fact he almost single handedly relegated us. Indeed despite what everybody knew it took a two wonder goal salvo off the bench v Rochdale for him to give Molyneux a run...the man whose form, ironically combined with Bavs early season form, kept us up. Then again...Coley's a pariah on here and he's our most succesful post-reformation manager so perhaps PC's in good company. ;) On the topic good luck Bavo. You made a rick or two but single handedly denying Forest and Boro plus that injury time penalty stop at Morecambe mean you'll live long in the memory. :) |
