2013 Prediction League; Game 31 v Wycombe Wanderers (away)
Wycombe Wanderers V Accrington Stanley We last met, you might remember, on 2nd November; we got - as often we do – a 90th minute goal from Peter Murphy :D:D, which gave us the draw, and that took us off the bottom of the League :p (above the Cobblers). Wycombe then were in 12th place, with 21 point from 14 games :); two weeks earlier they were in the play-off places with 20 points from 12 games ……….What a difference half a season can make! :o:o In their last 14 games they’ve won once  (4-1 at Northampton); they’ve drawn 5 ; they’ve lost 8 ; they’ve taken a magnificent (not!) 8 points from a possible 42 :eek:………….. In those last 14 games they’ve failed to score 8 times :(, and four of those eight have been their last four home matches  (0-1 against Newport, Oxford and Pompey, and 0-3 against the resurgent Wombles); in total, they’ve drawn a blank 10 times over the season …..in their last 7 League games – 630 minutes - they’ve scored a miserly three goals – 2-2 v Mansfield, and 1-1 at Morecambe, and got just two points; drawn two, lost the other 5 ………Their slide down the table has been spectacular :o:o; instead of 12th with 21 points from 14, they’re now 22nd with 29 points from 28 games – and indeed, they’re only out of the relegation places by virtue of a better (or less bad :D) goal difference than Torquay (-6 plays -13). Who’d be Gareth Ainsworth now? ;) Bury’s home point against Oxford earlier in the week dropped us to 18th, with a record of W8 D8 L11; oddly, we have the exact same League scoring record as the Chairboys (F32 A38). Although I’d always rather have points in the bank than games in hand, it’s worth recording that we have one game in hand on Torquay (23rd), Wycombe (22nd) and Brizzle R (21st) - plus 3 more points) than all of them; two in hand on Mansfield and Pompey, who lie 20th and 19th, each with the same points as us, and 3 games in hand on York, who are only 3 points better off than we are; indeed, we have either one or two games in hand on every side above us :p, except for Newport, who keep turning up to play water-polo (does the horses no good at all ………….) They sold teenage defender Kortney Hause (18) to Wolves for an undisclosed sum; they’ve signed ex Arsenal youngster Anthony Jeffrey (19 – a striker (of which they seem to have nine! :D:D)), and brought in, on loan, Wigan’s LB Jordan Mustoe (22) and Forest Green striker Reece Styche (24) ……….Forest Green seem to be letting lots of strikers depart, temporarily or permanently …….Including one Andy Mangan, who hopefully shut the door behind him when he left! :p:p:p:p Having gone from the League Cup (Capital!) 2-1 at home to Leicester (no shame in that!), they got to the area Quarter Final of the PaintPot, beating Exeter 2-0 at St james’ Park and Bristol City 2-1 at home, before succumbing to Swindon 2-1 away; in the FA Cup they played Crewe, drew 10-1 at home and then went to Gresty Road and did them 2-0; next up was PNE, who beat them by the odd goal in one, and just this week went out to Notts Forest in the 4th Round Replay Head to head is 4 wins each and three draws, with no game having more than three goals, and no win bigger than 2-0 …….I have a sneaky feeling that might be about to change ……………. 32 League goals, and 9 more in the Cups; leading scorers are strikers Dean Morgan (30) – ex Colchester, Reading, Luton and Leyton Orient – with 6; home-grown Matt McClure (22) also has 6; Paris Declan Joseph Cowan-Hall (23) – once of Scunthorpe, Woking and Plymouth – has 5; two have four, two have 3, some more have an odd one or two The deadline for entries is, as always, scheduled kick off time, which is 3.00pm on Saturday 8th February; I bet they wish they could turn the clock back, but they can’t; we’re still a form team :D, they’re a worried club/squad/team, which must be worth a point to us, you’d think; as always, it well could be a question of who wants it most; I think that might just be us ………….Someone’s due a smacking; what better time than now? :p:p Good luck to everyone ……..Remember; Passion overcome Logic ………..Keep the Faith! …………….. and thanks for playing! :tongueout |

Fencesitters Make Progress as Defences Survive
8 people correctly called this as a draw - 3 points for them :D. 12 people bet on Bet's clean sheet - 1 point for them :). And PMIG's default predicts us firing blanks all afternoon - 1 point for him . Nothing for the rest of us . Valairian, following his usual tactics, was the only other pessimist, and 29 of us thought we'd win . As a result, 4 of the fence-sitters are now in the Top 6 - Teach second, F19 third, Kiwi 4th and AccyBeMe sixth. Bdc, NigeB and Cmon Stanley all moved up, but the last of the 3-pointers was Winstanley ASFC, who finally moved clear of all the occasional players into 46th :). I thought this would mean I could do a single table covering all the regulars, but it's still too big to attach like that :(. AngeB remains top of the heap, but her lead is cut to 1 point. Roll on the Iron - the greater the challenge ...... On Stanley On! |
