Chesterfield Match Thread...........

If there is one game I want to win more than any other from now till May, this is it.

Interesting to see a new defender come in on loan, I thought we needed a striker more than anything!!

Come on the reds!

Would think that's because Hunt is suspended. Left side is covered but right side is iffy :)

fair point Dave!!!
we did have the option of putting Deano in at right back and playing
Atkinson along-side Aldred but then with Deano getting forward we would miss his speed at the back

Great display, 10 men fer two thirds of the match thanks to Murphys stupidity, he was fouled a few mins previous so made an horrendous tackle.:(Fair play to Stanley they carried on attacking until half time n got just rewards in injury time. Was great to see the Snake jumping about in temper all in all a great display.:) The new lad did very well i thought n astute loan imho.

Re: Chesterfield Match Thread...........

Ref had a shocker - soft bookings for us throughout and at least 2 penalties for them that he didn't give.

Cooky and Stephenson sent off at half time for scrapping outside of the dressing rooms.

Roberts lost my respect - gets tapped in the chest whilst on the floor and rolls around holding his face.

Murphy was sent off for two yellow cards - not a straight sending off so I think I'm right in saying it will only be a 1 match ban.

I think the ref was harsh with the sending off - it was a strong tackle but Murphy won the ball cleanly - as I said he was only shown a yellow for the tackle - the stupid booking he got for not retreating 10 yards from a free kick is what *really* cost him.

On the other hand Cooky losing his head at half time worked wonders for us - they could have won the game if they went about it right but came out with a "woe is me" attitude and we defended well against them.

Re: Chesterfield Match Thread...........

Didn't see that coming!
Really liked the shape and movement of Chesterfield, and they will win the league.
I have never witnessed a more open game for years with numerous chances at both ends.we took ours, they didn't.
In the second half full credit must go to the coaching staff, who made changes at the right time and set us up to be hard to break down
We let them have the ball in front of us and in wide areas, kept compact and competed for all balls delivered in(call recall a serious save that had to be made)
All the team never switched off and special mentions for Gray,Aldred and Joycy, although Moly will get the headlines.
Keeper also caught everything and relieved pressure at vital times,
I hope the lad who got carried off makes a full recovery,as he looked a good player

choirboy 08-03-2014 17:25

Re: Chesterfield Match Thread...........

STANLEY WERE SIMPLY MAGNIFICENT TODAY.:mosher:
With the exception of Murphy that is. :dummy2:His sheer stupidity for the first booking was for either not retreating ten yards or for saying something stupid in earshot of the referee. The referee was just as inept as he has been every time he has officiated at Stanley.:dummy2: For Murphy's second booking he had, in the twenty seconds before Murphy's tackle, let 3 bad fouls go unpunished!!! I hope the injured lad gets better soon.
The rest of the team including subs were BRILLIANT;:mosher:
Gray won nearly everything and tackled and created lots of great stuff. He had run so hard I think he had cramp before an hour was on the clock.
Moly took his goals well, although the first had a bit of luck as it bobbled all the way through everybody! Hatfield and Joyce played thier hearts out too. Wilson and the new lad Buxton, (he's so cool on the ball), were both great and frustrated Roberts and their other winger. Webber did well in the first half too. Windass. Koyode and rob Atkinson did their bit when they came on too. Marcus in goalk did not have a lot of shots to stop as most of their attempts were well off target but he did cath alot in the air under severe pressure in the second half.:mosher:
DEANO WAS MAGNIFICENT AND SUPERBLY CLEARED ONE OFF THE LINE LATE ON AND HE WAS SO BRAVE THROUGHOUT THE MATCH.:biggrin8:

HOWEVER, I'VE LEFT THE BEST UNTIL LAST BEACAUSE IF DEANO SCORED A 10 FOR HIS PERFORMANCE THEN THE MIGHTY TOM ALDRED WAS WORTH TWELVE AT LEAST!!:alc:
I THINK TOM IS SO BRAVE AND STRONG. HE WAS INTO EVERTHING TODAY AND WAS UNDOUBTABLY THE MAN OF THE MATCH.
Beatty's substitutions were spot on today as well and really Chestefield just ran out of ideas and finished up just hopefully chipping the ball into our goal mouth.
Watching Cookie was just comical in the first half!:rofl38::rofl38:
THE CLAYTON END WERE BRILLIANT TOO AND THE BACK BARRETT CHANT WENT ON FOR OVER 20 MINUTES TOWARDS THE END.
JACK WOULD HAVE BEEN A PROUD MAN TODAY!!
WELL DONE TO ALL.

What a great match for my "comeback"! No complaints about team selection or substitutions today - all spot on. Thought Gray was immense, not only winning more than his share of headers but by his movement and skill on the ball he terrorised their defence. Unlike Football19, for a table topping team I couldn't believe how little penetration Chesterfield had in attack. Unable to pass their way through our magnificent defence their only tactic was to pass the ball out to the wings and and lob a steam of centres into the middle. The fact that Jimmy Ryan was substituted says it all. I really must try to bring my son-in-law more often. On each of his last 2 visits Lee has scored a hat-trick!

Crowd according to BBC was 1968.

Like others, I was hoping for a Stanley win, but never saw that coming. As I am on night duty, I went for a couple of hours this afternoon and got up at half time. What a shock to see Stanley down to 10 men but 3-0 up. Sweet!!!
All I can say is well done to the 10 for holding out for the last 60 or so minutes of the game and well done to the management and coaches for the correct substitutions at the correct times (for a change after what I have read on here previously). All I can say is roll on Tuesday night against the not so mighty shrimps in the replay of the abandoned game.
Heres hoping for 3 more points as it will put Stanley above them in the table and could even take us as high as 12th in the League (dependant on other results, of course) and 9 points clear of the drop zone. Looking forward to watching this on the Football League show tomorrow morning.:mosher::D

good descision by JB opting for pace up front today, Chesterfield had one of those days when the ball would not go in the net, it was like we had an invisable shield protecting our goal, some heroic defending from Stanley and a comedy of errors from Chesterfield, I thought the new loanee at right back had a good game, Murphy sending off was more down to the silly initial first yellow which could have ultimatley cost us the match and will have implications on the matches to come, but all in all a brilliant result beating top of the league with 10 men and Cookie sent to the wheel chair area Brilliant

Cracking day to be a Stanley fan. Giving the league leaders a tonking is an extremely good feeling. The fact that they are managed by an ex Stanley 'team' just puts the icing on the cake. This must surely be James Beattie's most satisfying result. Well done to the players who showed some real desire to win this game. Well done to Moly on what must be his first league hat trick. Always rated the guy and you can tell he just loves playing for us. A mention too for Buxton who made an impressive debut and Deano and Tom at the back who were as impressive as ever. Prat of the day must go to the 'Snake' who showed to all the sporting world what n*bs behave like and whilst I like Roberts as a player , he would gain more respect if he concentated on playing instead of trying to get fellow professionals booked and/or sent off.

Think, and hope, you may be wrong. Remember the first thing JB did differently this year was to offer 2 year contracts to a lot of the squad.
I'm hoping he sees it as a two year project and that next season, for a change, starts with a settled squad.

the yellow card at the throw in was probably for time wasting by delaying the throw in.

IMO Gray should be our 1st choice forward and I've said so all season, nothing the others have done has changed my mind. I also don't think there's much to choose between wide players either. Personally I yesterday does show we have a decent squad which should be used more.

Not for me. The pace, movement and pressing of our attacking players was something we seem to have lacked for most of the season, though Hatfield needs to not give the ball away when defending quite as much as he did yesterday for me.

And just for once, as I am off work on rest days, might just pop up for the game. (hope I am not jinxing the team!). Looking forward to a good crowd Tuesday night, Stanley deserve that at least. First visit for a while but what a game, we rode our luck, battled brilliantly more so after Murphy's sending off. In this type of game you need your GK to stand tall and his catching of crosses was exceptional. my MOM was Aldred he won everything against a much taller striker. the new right back
settled in well. After watching the goals on TV we had an element of good fortune with the first goal but never looked in danger after second on went in.

JB seems to stick with a winning team as a matter of principle (not a bad one) so I don't see any need to argue.
For once, F19, I'd dare to disagree with you about Mr. Naismith. I like him a lot and he's got pots of potential, which will be needed over the next dozen games, but I noticed at Pompey that he and Mr. Molyneux tended to cancel each other out. Whilst Mr. Molyneux is available and cooking, I'd stick with him on the left but bring on Mr. Naismith if the opposition manage to nullify Lee's efforts.
Also think bringing Kayode on as a sub is a better option than starting with him.
Hartlepool will be smarting after letting a 0-1 lead slip on Saturday.

Re: Chesterfield Match Thread...........

Just about come down off the ceiling long enough to form sentences. I thought Luke Joyce summed up Saturday's game as well as anyone when he posted on Twitter that we had great attacking play in the first half and top class defending in the second.

Before the game I thought we might just edge a draw but became more confident of success when the team line-up was posted. Have thought for a while that the partnership of Danny Webber and James Gray is the best mix of skills we have in the forward line and it proved true from the first minute. Both players were willing to work the channels rather than wait for service which enabled Lee and Will to get into penetrative spaces. Our attacking intent showed none more so than the amount of times the skipper got forward into the opposition box - suprised he wasn't suffering from nosebleeds! In Lee Molyneux we have a magic ingredient - a player with talent far above his pay band, club and league who is enjoying his football. That kind of personnel is unplayable and he's showing it now just as he did this time last year. Top player, top bloke.

It's quite clear that Peter Murphy shouldn't have been sent off and it's an injustice that his suspension can't be appealed. The first yellow card was incorrectly attributed to Peter for dissent when in fact Gary Roberts kicked a ball at him. Even if Murphy was guilty - which he wasn't - the correct procedure at that stage with the player having committed no prior fouls was to warn him. The unfortunate incident with Gardener was probably a yellow card - I say probably because even then Peter did win the ball in a challenge which was not high, careless or reckless. Just because a player suffers a serious injury does not mean a foul has taken place. The behaviour of the Chesterfield lot - players and coaches included - was dispicable throughout the game and inevitably the ref succumbed to bully-boy tactics. The ref's performance after the half was no better - booking our players for the smallest of infringements (Will Hatfield yellow carded for passing the ball to his fullback to make a throw-in was the 2nd most ridiculous after Murphy's first). The nonsense we get at this level is laughable.

Our performance in defence after going down to ten men was a replica of that against Bury: Organised, clever and committed. I can't speak highly enough not only of the gigantic Tom Aldred and Dean Winnard but also the attacking players who showed great positioning and resilience.

One final hyberbolic mention for the skilful and strong Adam Buxton who had a brilliant debut against one of this league's most skilful attacking players. Hopefully he's got the legs to get through tomorrow's game.

Not having Peter Murphy in the starting 11 poses a problem for us as all our central midfield players seem to be off on loan somewhere. If Kal Naismith is fit I'd advocate playing him on the right and Hatfield in a more central role. Luke Joyce will have his work cut out though.

Come on Accy.

Very good read that Shaker.
On young Buxton,He's a attacking type of fullback, but on Saturday he had to dig in and really played well ( big step from 21s ),but there's plenty more in his tank.
Wouldn't take any risk on players fitness as our squad depth is good,so team selection will be interesting tomorrow

I hope that we submit these as evidence in any hearing.

How fantastic to contrast that idiot's behaviour with the dignity of our own manager. And sad that Paul S had to be dragged into Cook's nonsense.

I know that in today's terrible Health and Safety world someone always has to be to blame, but the unfortunate injury to Gardner was 100% accidental, having seen the video. As Shaker has already posted Murphy went for a 50/50 ball totally in control. It is hard to freeze the action at precisely the moment before Murph catches the guy, but we are talking about microseconds in real time and it is impossible to see whether or not he even booted the ball before making contact. Of course it is difficult for refs when coaches and players these days scream blue murder for a sending of in such situations and I'm not exempting our lot from criticism, either, although JB does keep his cool rather better than most of his fellow managers.

As of late this afternoon the club had not been contacted by the FA about the incident.

90% of competent referees would not have given a foul, a 50/50 tackle ball taken and no intent. Its just Accrington always get the other 10% of the refs? The idiot in charge at Portsmouth totally bottled it when Murphy was on the end of the worst challenge off the ball I have seen anywhere this year a real attempted leg breaker. As for the idiot on Saturday he waved play on (advantage)when I think Murphy was felled late and when play eventually halted did nothing. Then Bettinelli getting kicked round the ear hole by a player on the ground and finally the late challenge just before half time.Gary Roberts spent the day diving, one in front of us rolling round clutching his face, the ref clearly saw his acting but no booking in fact can anyone explain why they never had a booking?I could go on but rant over and time to get geared up for tonight!!!

Here is the sequence;-
1) 50x50 situation
2) Murphy gets the ball
3) Ball rebounds off Gardner who is caught by the follow through

So are you saying the booking was correct? In my eyes Murphy was first to the ball and played the ball,he caught Gardner I agree, but was Gardner not the one who was late to the tackle it seems that way to me? I stand to be corrected.
