Sadly I can't be there today but good luck to JB and the team. York have been on a good run but if we play to our potential we can definitely take all three points. Please give an extra loud cheer or two for me in my absence.
COME ON STANLEY

Official web link failed today so it was even more agonising following things via the Beeb web site. But what a fantastic result. Well done Stanley.

and there was me thinking 'McCarten, remind me how many goals he's got this season - what a strange sub' - and he ends York's long cleansheet run ! Many a good result from teams below us but our point has got to be a good result as well.

Great result for J B & the reds, what the team can't control is the teams around us are also picking up valuable points, makes you wonder what points tally will be required to put us safe this season

Great point for the reds today listened on Yorkshire radio and when we scored went to pick angeb up and was told to 'go away' as I would only drop her! Oh well! Good evening in our household wine o'clock and a point closer to safety. Well done to JB with the substitutions and the fantastic never say die attitude of the Stanley players...ON STANLEY ON

I'm guessing we might get another 5 or 6 points. I can't see Torquay doing better than that. Northampton could get 8. Wycombe and Bristol in poor form. I'm guessing one of them might join Torquay for the drop, I just hope the Shrimps don't go into free fall, I don't think they have the gritty players good enough for a relegation battle....

Too right we need those guaranteed 6 points every season :)

Re: York Thread

Good solid display, definitely worth a point, but once again in my view a poor decision did us,:( Hope its shown on tv tonight, Yorks penalty was a push on wiley, thats the only reason the ball hit him, Betts had very little to do oer the 90mins, the subs all did well, perhaps cos they had time to do it? Mingoia had a fair game n was happy to see him back.

Wycombe against Northampton on Friday. Can't work out what would be the best result for us. Mansfield for us who look safe now.

Local media round here think they're looking at the play offs  but then again they do have 6 fingers and on average 8 children per family!

Looks like 50 points might not be enough.

Its remarkable how 50 points for years was guaranteed safety, yet last year Barnet and this year there is every chance of going down with 50

Good day out today & i have the feeling that of the two managers, ours will be the happier tonight - their 'penalty' was at best controversial yet that was the best they could do to score against us! And they have ideas about promotion to league one? Somehow i don't think so

Chimer 12-04-2014 22:41

Re: York Thread

I think 50 might do it after all. Looking at the remaining fixtures, I think Brizzle may only get one more point and go down with 48, leaving Northampton safe in 22nd on 50. If logic overcomes passion, everybody else in the struggle should get 4 points by my reckoning, except Hartlepool who should get 6. But given the accuracy of my predictions ........ who knows?

Haggis316 12-04-2014 22:57

Re: York Thread

York were completely toothless.

That gift of a penalty was the only way they were going to score. If we were still playing now they would not have scored otherwise.

Mind you so were we till the late substitutions. Why doesn't a player with Bowerman's pedigree get a game? I was pretty underwhelmed by our starting front 2 today.

Re: York Thread

A fine point against the in form side of League Two

As always with this League when you pull off a result things around you also tighten, we are four points clear with the Goal Difference potentially worth another point from our point of view one more win should secure it.

Looking at the remaining fixtures Manfield had a cracking result against Rochdale yesterday and our two away fixtures are against play-off contenders and then the last game brings the Dons to Stanley who also had a good result away yesterday so I take nothing for granted other than it's in our own hands and there is still a lot to play for.

4 more points then I might the maracas out

Good point Stanley :)

Re: York Thread

Had a look at all the remaining games this morning all the teams below us play each other Wycombe have Northampton next. One more win from us will make goal differance at least -2 so 53 pts should be enough,as for yesterday if we had our shooting boots on would have won well done Shay a lot round me giving Beattie stick for putting him on showed the rest how to score.

Have to say the substitution did surprise me,but the lad must have been showing well in training i reckon, J.B. @ P.S. know the score so that,ll do fer me.:) got up well fer the goal did young Shay well done lad.

Re: York Thread

Well a great day out over the border...... York along with Morecambe and Torquay is without doubt one of my favourite away trips.

My first game for a while...... and I have to say its the same old story for me. The back 5 had a decent game, thought Nicky Hunt made some great tackles. Thought Atkinson did ok considering he has hardly played this year.

Really not sure what the logic was playing Buxton in midfield?? I think we where probably setup to get a point, which thankfully we got. Moly again looked on a different planet when he was introduced, what I would give for us to be able to keep him next season.

As for going forward I really did think we looked pretty dire. Gray and big Kay looked miles off the pace for me. As others have said, not sure what Bowerman and Webber have done wrong??? As for MCcarten.... I thought he had disappeared off the planet! So fair to him for taking his chance.

Up the reds.

Re: York Thread

Watched the action over breakfast on TV and I think Big K was very harshly dealt with re the penalty. It looked to me as if he was pushed into the ball, he definitely didn't raise his arm towards the ball. Hey ho! We got another great .....late equalizer!:tongueout
Shay rose really well to get up first to the high corner from Moly as it dropped! Great goal for the lad. Well done to JB for making some brave changes in team selection. Well done to the boys on the pitch for keeping up the fight right to the end.
Creeping nearer to safety!

Never a penalty in a thousand years! All credit to the lads for not letting their heads drop after that and keeping on battling to get their just reward!

Re: York Thread

Struggling to see how the penalty could have been given - the ball fell, rolling between Kay's arm and the oppo's knee. Never a deliberate handball. Poor decision.

Great to see such commitment from Shay McCartan who was a missing man for 6 months.

Almost the same as last year, except 6 days later and the equaliser a few minutes earlier.

Northants draw closer but a point gained on some, and a win at on good Friday is a must give two very tough aways.

Wycome playing Northants and Birstol R is good for us. The other Bristol matches at home Rochdale and away to Pompey aint easy either :)

Totally agree with that Shaker....and with Smudgie's praise for Nicky Hunt, !. His positional play against two good left-side York players and four potentially match saving blocks/interventions were sheer class and made him MOM by a distance !.
Shay's leap for the goal was from a standing position a thing to be wondered at !...something to do with a Salmon-based diet maybe ?.
More of the same from the Red's should allay all fears of a return to ' the scrap' taking place a few points below us methinks !, and Good Friday's meeting with Mansfield has the makings of a match not to be missed !.
Finally, I can't be the only one to think that York City are not really as good as their League position would suggest !.

York 1-1 Accrington | Video | Watch TV Show | Sky Sports
Thought Mr.McCartan was being too modest saying his goal was 'a bit scrappy'. Like someone else said on here, he leapt like a salmon to nod it in. Denis Law would have been more than happy to score that one.
