next seasons new team (up)

Luton town are up.

Up to 6 teams can still make the playoff places, would like to see Cambridge back in the league.

Halifax would be handy.

Re: next seasons new team (up)

3 or 4 northern teams look likely to be departing our league, and Stevenage and Luton are likely to be joining, so I hope for 3 northern teams to come from League 1, and 1 northern team to come up from the conference. I'm not bothered who, just being practical.

Very much like to see FC Halifax come up relatively short hop & would make for a decent away day. :)

Halifax or Grimsby would suit me.

Defo Grimsby! Always a good day out in Cleethorpes - fish & chips on the front and a few beers in Willie's Bar!

As a strong believer that League 1 & 2 should revert back to North & South, might be obvious where my choices would be :)

Re: next seasons new team (up)

Agree Halifax or Grimsby for me too.

Looks like the morons at Satanage will be back, along with probably Shrewsbury, which I cant say I will be rushing too.

Crewe would be handy for me, cracking chippy and half decent day out, though probably would be a Tuesday night game.

Carlisle and Tranmere, both fairly local but not exactly a Torquay away are they :(

Grimsby and Cambridge would be good for me.

Got to be Halifax. Direct train and a few tins. Happy days.

From a purely selfish point of view I'd like Gateshead to get the second promotion spot as it's the easiest of them for me to get to.

Can knock Halifax off the list off the list now, beaten by Cambridge

Gateshead are the form side; Cambridge lost their last five .....

No disrespect to Cambridge, but massive nostalgia value to people of my age to have Gateshead back in the League

:)

Interesting piece from the BBC a few weeks ago

BBC Sport - Gary Mills: Gateshead chairman lauds manager's impact

The last few paragraphs look familiar

Quote:

But with Premier League Newcastle United just two miles away, Gateshead rarely attract four-figure attendances.
As a result, former Sunderland vice-chairman Wood, bankrolls their professional status.
"We have probably lost two generations of support since getting voted out of the League," he explained.
"But I think there is certainly enough potential here to get the crowds back. Promotion would be huge - it'd increase income by around £1m."

Will be rooting for Gateshead in the final - having lost Torquay, a weekend in Newcastle sounds ok to me

Re: next seasons new team (up)

Would like to see Gateshead go up as it means we might not come bottom of the attendance league (as we have yet again this season - 1605, next lowest Daggers on 1920).

Neither are exactly mouthwatering for me.

Would probably swing towards Cambridge seeing as its closer to me :)

I had a chat last night with a BBC Producer from the North East who is looking at doing a programme on Gateshead and we discussed the many similarities that there are between them and Stanley.

Re: next seasons new team (up)

Cambridge came second in the Conference so i suppose it worked out fair. I think their manager is right in saying there are two big promotions, the one from Championship to Premier League and from the Conference to the Football League. Cambridge left the league in 2005,so we've only met twice in Stanley's current form if i'm right?

cashman 20-05-2014 07:37

Re: next seasons new team (up)

The fact they came second, they certainly deserve it. Have never been a fan of play-offs, even though was delighted when we got in em.;)

Yes, we played them in the conference winning season if my memory serves me right?

The game at Cambridge saw a new keeper (Bouzanis ? or summat) join the Stanley squad just before kickoff. Made a right howler I seem to recall in our 3 - 1 ? defeat.
And yes Teabag, I recall strolling through the cowdung to reach the ground !

Not Boozer! You're thinking of Bertrand Bossu who played just the one game for us. He then went on to Walsall and Aberdeen and, for some reason, only played a single league game for each of those clubs...
