Not making it this year. Prospect of the M25 and the A13 on a sunny Bank Holiday Monday doesn't seem fun.
You're obviously made of sterner stuff, Chubby, but allow a bit more time for all those with bucket and spades on their way to Sar'fend.

I can't wait. I entered a twitter thing by the club for my son to read out the teams before the game. He got chosen and will read the team line ups at 2.30. The club also wanted a Stanley fan to do the same for their team, but as of yet no one has come forward and so my son will read out both sides. Fair to say he is very excited and a brilliant thing for the club to do. Utb
Anyone know of a young n whos going from stanley and would be willing to have ago??

Smudgie it was always going to be difficult, away from home against a play off team.
They had two shots on target(one was in injury time),that tells me we did ok defensively.
We may of lacked a bit going forward, but why open the game up and get picked off 3/4 nil, when goal difference maybe key

Crown Grounder 21-04-2014 16:28

Re: Southend United Match Thread........

I think 1 point for absolute safety. Worst possible outcome is Wycombe and B Rovers win one and draw against each other, then it goes to goal diff if we fail to get any more points from our last two games. However, our goal diff looks OK at the moment provided we don't get two good thumpings and just lose by the odd goal, think I'm right but please check.....

A bit harsh that & i always think unless you are at the game it's difficult to make a judgement on the way the lads have played

There seems to be a bit of controversy with their goal.
Acci had the goal and the ref blew as a Southend lad was down.
He then started with a drop ball near our box rather than giving possession back to us,or kicking it down field/their keeper.
No doubt chubbyman will let us know

Shocking, but who cares now you geniuses have assured me we are safe, barring a catastrophe.

Re: Southend United Match Thread........

Unfortunately we have strikers at our club who can't finish their dinners! Gray rarely gets himself in a shooting position , Odejayi just doesn't shoot <(which is a bit weird for a striker) , the same is said for Danny webber who only seems to score penalties and then McCarten who is really a winger but he also doesn't find himself in shooting positions! Beattie as a good striker as he is must find this next season!

The people who we say we are safe are living in dreamland! Anything can happen in this league! I don't think we will get anything from Oxford as it's our voodoo team (especially away) and then we might not get anything against Wimbledon ! They are beating teams away from home recently and with our home record and their away record and the fact we may be under pressure and their not could lead to a bad result! I'm just hoping we stick tight against Oxford and just hit them on the break and just grind out that massive point!

See you in oxford guys and gals!

Very harsh, we don't exactly have the most creative midfield do we creating chances and whipping in crosses. Generally the strikers spend most of their time with heir backs to goal, feed off scraps and have to create their own chances.

For hte record bought Gray was excellent today up front on his own, much better than when odejayi plays up here with him

I think the ref suffered from little man syndrome,he was terrible as was the linesman near the away end, but the other linesman had a cracking game(for us anyway)As for the incident just before the goal it was diabolical refereeing, one of Southends players was down and the ball was played half way down their half hitting one of their players and going out for a Stanley throw in.The whistle was blown as the ball went out and the ref brought play back and wanted Southend to play the ball to Stanley but they insisted on the bounce just outside our box and the ref went along ,they won the bounce and scored....it was their first and only effort on goal until once more in injury time. The stats say we had 1 shot on target it was 4 ...we had 7 corners to 3.. 57% possession and they conceded 4 more fouls than us....Just to mention Aldred was huge today...McCarten had two chances in the short time he was on ...on from a sharp angle close in and their keeper pulled off a great save...there is no doubt Southend will feel they gained 3 points they didn't deserve....

That's more or less how I saw it too. Both keepers had excellent games.

Almost safe but not quite. Cashy Wycombe played Northampton last week. Can only go down if Wycombe and Bristol draw then both win their last game whilst we lose both by a combined total of five goals. Also needs Northampton to win their last two and Morecambe and Exeter to both win one.
