Bit of travel advice. If you normally come through Clayton go back through Harwood & Rishton then along Dunkenhalgh Way. The roadworks mean you will probably miss the first half otherwise.

Am I alone in finding this latest line trying to wind up Dav (a) becoming boring and (b) bordering on the offensive?

Thankfully Dav appears not to be taking the bait on this occasion. I much prefer not having to wade through post after post of personal abuse when I come on here.

I thought after Northampton that this particular hatchet had been buried.

Grump over :)

we have traveled to an away game together and had several hours of conversation and it is only a bit of ribbing and DAV gives plenty and can stand up for himself, so if you find it offensive I suggest you get a life.....(rant over)xxx

I wouldn't worry about DAVO, Chimer, he's read worse and has a hide like a rhino. I've only met him once at Oxford so can't say what other things he has in common with a rhino, although he is a big lad!
Maybe after a good performance tonight we all might be able to get back to commenting on the game.:)

At £20 its hardly likely to encourage walk ons!

Going under 1000 takes a bit of the shine off a great result. Was it a rough night weather-wise up north?

When you consider that there were 107 from Hartlepool and approximately 480 season tickets, that means there were only 360 give or take paying 20 quid or even less if the concessions and kids for a quid was running.

Pity that the figure was so low, only Blackburn playing at home tonight, but saw none of the Burnley contingent (Dave W. excepted) there. Shame really as the stay aways missed a decent match, marred only by some strange decisions or even non-decisions by the referee. Think Shay McCartan will have been mystified at being taken off after scoring his second goal, but there again, as a club, we probably cannot afford to give match balls away for hat tricks!. Deano and Tom A solid at the back even when the 6ft goodness knows what centre forward from Hartlepool came on, mind you, he can head a ball but shooting, well lets say Wigan Warriors could use him lol. Man of the match, I don't know as they fought as a team and did not sit back on a 2-1 half time lead. Got the killer third goal and still went for the jugular. Only moan I have is James Gray is lazy when coming back to the centre when we have scored. Any other day he could have been booked and was lucky when he had a dig at one of the Pool's defenders after being provoked. 3 points and up to 14th lets hope we have another win on Saturday and the guaranteed 3pts on the 31st October.
:alright:

Just back from the game and must say the pitch was in great nick !
I must say they were a good side, pressed us all over the pitch, good in possession and great movement.
We didn't help with poor composure at times but what shone thro was the ability to dig in when not playing well ( typical of Coleys teams)
A few players looked under the weather, but the game was lit up with McCartens first goal, simply top drawer.
At 2-1 coley must take some credit to change the defence around which nullified there threat and we comfortably saw the game out.
Playing average and scoring three is a bonus and I will take the points all day
Look forward to Saturday now !!!!

We have 600ish season ticket holders and about 250-300 of them didn't turn up tonight.
So in reality we could have had 1200 on and made no extra cash.

OK so we have approximately 600. Thats 600 towards the gate even though some didn't turn up. That makes tonights attendance even worse from Accrington because it means only 240 bothered to pay on the gate, this is assuming that they all paid £20, which in reality is probably wrong as I am sure there were concessions and juniors in that 240! Don't forget, those 600 have prepaid. I am one of those 600. My original figures were on the premise that I bought my season ticket late and I was number 498. :(

I paid £19 for Leicester the other week and £25 for West Brom. Stoke is £25, Hull is £16, Arsenal is £27, all Premier League teams and not much more than Accrington for pricing. In my eyes £20 is a completely wrong price for League 2 football, I wont pay it and its not hard to see why attendances are lower as we are looking at a pricing structure purely aimed at getting as much money as possible from away fans. This is to the detriment of attracting home support due to price.

Fans are secondary to tv money in the premiership. If accy got the same money as them from tv we could all get in for nowt.

A comforting thought for the next four hours until I get home from the game. Good job I bought a flexiticket and didn't have to pay £20 on top of the rest of what I've paid today

I don't think the 600 were counted, I'm guessing they only count the ones through the gate otherwise there wouldn't have been an extra few hundred had they all turned up.

The simple facts are higher league clubs get subsidised and the gate money becomes more irrelevant. The biggest earner in clubs these days is the commercial revenue. Burnley would never have got to the Premier League on gate money. Football has been killed by the corporate greed

If you was a football fan after a day at work on a freezing tuesday night, would you really pay £20 to watch league 2 accrington v hartlepool in a very tinpot ground watching two out of form teams? You wouldn't.

If Stanley had no game on a Tuesday and Burnley and Blackburn were at home and they advertised there game for £20 , even with there nice stadiums etc. I just wouldn't as its just more money spent that I'd rather spend at the weekend.

In my view your not going to get new fans supporting the Stanley with a ground and set up like we have and it also hasn't helped in the past that every time we've had a few more fans come through the turnstiles we've been terrible and lost the game!

There's no attraction to Stanley on a Tuesday night.

Isn't that what makes Acci so unique and special?.
A football league club on our attendance's is unbelievable really.
I remember Wigan's gates being around 1500 and it was brilliant as nearly everybody new each other and stood in the same places (team was full of scousers as well !!).
Far better times than the premier league days IMHO
We even had bigger moaners than Acci have :),but all loved the club

Unfortunately, these days, being unique and special doesn't pay the bills.

To my mind there are two things that Stanley could do to possibly up the gates and these are: play some home matches on Friday nights and secondly, lower the ridiculously high entrance fee. Thee are few people in my local who would like to watch Stanley, especially if they played on Friday but are put off from going on a Saturday because of the cost.

I disagree, travel for a night game is far harder especially for me and a lot of away fans. There may have been more at the game had it been a Saturday especially from Hartlepool. I would hazard a guess that Morecambe would probably be a bigger crowd on a Saturday as well plus more people in the Crown for longer.

It's been argued many times about the high price but if you lower it too much then it defeats the purpose. We would have needed nearly 2000 there last night to generate the same income and that was never going to happen.

smobile 22-10-2014 18:11

Re: Hartlepool Match Thread

I think the £20 walk on price was primarily aimed at generating more money from away fans on the premise that a fiver won't stop them coming and the core 1200 Stanley would be either season tickets or would come regardless.

100 hartlepool fans last night drew in £2000 tops as opposed to £1500 tops if it was £15.

that £500 is 35 walk ons at £15 for the home end. Would we have done that. More than likely.

Wouldn't dispute that but putting prices up is purely aimed at skimming away fans and that wont help increase gates in the long term, only way to start growing attendances is to charge a reasonable price and put some marketing into it as well as continuously plugging away at getting kids from schools in with their parents.

Simply increasing walk ons to £20 will alienate Burnley fans who support Accy as their second team. I am in that category and I wont pay £20 to walk on as I think its too expensive.

lancsdave 22-10-2014 19:10

Re: Hartlepool Match Thread

Over the past few years I've taken an interest every incentive going has probably been tried.

First and foremost a succesful team is the biggest crowd puller.

The question then becomes how to increase the revenue to pay for that. The odd few extra on the gate isn't going to do that.

And the home fans without season tickets didn't pay the extra fiver too? now you could be up to over 100 extra fans needed. Do you then go back to categorising games and charge less for games like last night all to get a few extra who may or may not come again.

Attendances are always going to be affected by people who cant get there for various reasons. I said when the prices were announced that I thought it was too high but financially what else can they do to raise money given that we have a core support, away fans and however many may want to come on the night.

You can't base the business plan on half a dozen people who might decide to leave the pub on a cold night with Champions League football for a fiver less than just now.

The club tried a fiver for wimbledon two years ago and while there was a bigger crowd than usual the gate money would have been more at £20 with the usual crowd.

I like a lot of others don,t no the fix to increase walk on,s apart from being top of the league, but I do think our facilities as said by others don,t entice people on a cold Tuesday night, but how do we improve these when you are always skint, plus other clubs midweek suffer poorer gates look at Morecame last night in the play off,s no idea how many York fans but only 400 more on than us.

Re: Hartlepool Match Thread

Great result last night for John, Jimmy and the team and for the FANS who turned up to support the team.
The bad weather over the previous 36 hours had clearly put some fans off!:idunno:
When we got onto the ground though the weather had become quite benign...very little wind...no rain.... and a SUPERB GREEN CARPET OF A PITCH ON WHICH TO PLAY FOOTBALL.....Massive credit to BUZZA and his helpers!!!! Big thankyou to BUZZA!!:alright:
Yes! Stanley did play some great football! Two of our goals were absolutely SUPERB and the third was a Poacher's' goal.
Hartlepool played some good passing football too, particularly for a 20 to 25 minute spell in the second half when we just couldn't get the ball off them. Luckily they left their 'shooting boots' at home though!
The first goal was a CRACKER from Mc Carten! He showed great skill and drive when he ran at their defence, beating several defenders skilfully, picking his way through and finally finishing really well! Shay looked really sharp in the first half! :theband:
Rob Atkinson notched another headed goal which he 'powered in' from a corner. He is beginning to make this look like a welcome habit that he is developing.! More plese Rob!:thepint:
As Coley said in his interview on the Fishy site, the changes that he made were to try and stop Hartlepool dominating and it worked well. Joyce looked really good at right back and with Deano going to left back it allowed Moly to move into midfield. Moly does quite well at left back but it does stifle his wizadry going forward somewhat. He occasionally gets caught in possession too, which at left back can have more serious consequences than if it happens in midfield. I prefer him to have a free reign across the middle of the pitch and to allow him to forage down the wings too.
In a way it was a similar home performance to that against Dagenham except that we stuck the goals in and played the game out properly to the final whistle.
Talking of 'whistles', the Ref had a strange match? He seemed to let a few too may over zealous tackles go unpunished early on and then made, (or didn't make), some strange decisions !?*! The worst of these was giving Hartlepool a free kick late on for what looked to me like a super tackle just outside the 'D' of our penalty box! It was quite central too, (in Moly territory), but their lad hit it over the bar again!
Overall though it was a GREAT PERFORMANCE FROM STANLEY and the 'stay away fans' missed a treat!
ONWARDS AND UPWARDS WITH THE BOYS IN RED.:wave8:

Finally, I am a season ticket holder and I always make every effort to get on and support the team....
Come rain, shine or hell and high water!:bangh8::music8::pain30::end:

My recommendation is for supporters, who have not yet bought a season ticket, to get down to the office and buy one of the FLEXITICKETS for TEN matches of your choice and then use it frequently....and then buy another!!!:alright:
