2014/5 Prediction League; Game 16 v Morecambe (home)

Everybody knows – don’t you – that in their 7 seasons in League Two Morecambe FC have never beaten the Stanley in league fixtures :D:D:D; 4 draws, 10 losses – the last a magnificent 5-1 thumping :o chez nous after the first game was abandoned owing to too many players falling over in the water ;); they have beaten us in the cup, but by common consent that doesn’t count :p………..So; your starter for 10 ……………the Shrimps finished higher than us in their first three seasons (11th, 11th and 4th, where we finished 17th, 16th and 15th); but of the last four years – no cheating – how many times have they been higher up League Two in the final table? Answer; once – 2012/13, when they were 16th to our 18th ……….10/11 we were 5th, they were 20th, 11/12 we were 14th and they were 15th, and last season we were 15th and they were 18th ……. Not for the first time they flattered to deceive, when a decent start went TU (as in, the Sainsbury’s clothing range :p:p)

They found a cute way to save on contractual incidentals this summer, signing 4 of their 7 captures from other Lancashire clubs (so no re-location expenses :)); defenders Shaun Beeley (25) and Alan Goodall (32) – Beeley having been on loan at Bury, and Goodall having also played for Rochdale, Luton, Chesterfield and Stockport – both joined from Fleetwood; defender/MF Laurence Wilson :D(28) – one of the unluckiest players as regards injuries – went back to the Globe from our place (although last I heard he was injured again); Blackburn provided Ryan Edwards (def, 21), who never played for them but had a few Lancashire and Merseyside loans: Paul Mullin – no, the other one ;)– joined from Huddersfield and has scored a few; former Hull (16 games) and Chesterfield (7 games) winger Jamie Devitt (with more loans than I’ve had wives :D) came in on release; and stalwart Chris McCready having been released (along with Robbie Threlfall and a couple of others), they cut their wage bill even further by signing his MF brother Tom (23) on non-contract terms. Tony Diagne went to Lincoln; Marcus Marshall went on loan to Lincoln); and GK Barry Roche is apparently out for the season with a hip injury, which is sad for him :eek:but good for us :D, given how many blinders he’s played against us. They also have Fleetwood GK Scott Davies on loan (he played for Morecambe up to 2010), and Blackpool forward Thomas Barkhuizen as well – and I bet he was glad to get out of the place! Does Lee Clark know what he’s letting himself in for? (assuming he signs) :confused::confused:

Currently they’re 8th, with 23 points from 15; that said, they’ve lost 5 and drawn one of their last eight – losing 0-2 to Exeter, 1-3 to Wycombe and 0-1 to Northampton, and drawing 1-1 with York (all at home), and losing 1-0 at Mansfield and the Wombles, before beating Southend 1-0 and Burton 2-0 on the road (their last two away games) …. In the League they have 17 goals for and 15 against; if you add the Cups (out of the League Cup 1-0 to Bradford, and the PaintPot 3-1 at Bury after a similar score win at Fleetwood) then in 18 games they have 21 for and 20 against; not Goalfest Territory! Kevin (“Ref! It’s all wet over this side and I’ve got to run in it; s’not fair!” :p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p) Ellison has 6, Mullin and TinyRedshaw have 3 each

Now let’s not get carried away ……………… Just because they haven’t beaten us in 14 attempts doesn’t mean they never will :D:D:D……..Just not yet, please, Oh Ye Gods of Football …………..3 points :) AND bragging rights :D is just too good to turn down! Deadline for entries is scheduled kick-off time, which is 1945 (“Damn! Missed it!” :rolleyes:) or, if you want it in pounds, shillings and pence :), 7.45pm this Friday, Halloween :eek:………… Don’t worry about your Ghosties on the Clayton – but just be careful of your Ghoulies! :D:D:D:D

Good luck to everyone …………..Keep the Faith! :)…………And thanks for playing! :):)

:alright::alright::alright::alright::alright:

Stanley 3-0

Justice was actually done last season when your players and manager cheated to get the game abandoned and then you got smashed 5-1 in the rearranged game. :alright:

Suddenly The Top Two Make A Break For It

When the Top Two each produce a max 5 :), and the next three have to settle for a single bonus point :eek:, suddenly there's a significant gap. Tommy McQueen and AngeB did just that, and are now 7 points clear, with Tommy ahead on countback.

Everybody seemed to believe that we can't lose to the Shrimps :cool:, except for a naive first-time entrant called Morecambe Red :rolleyes:, who may have had his own reasons for going against the trend and now holds up the table :D. 29 went for the inevitable Stanley win :) and 8 fainthearts for the draw :o. 10 of the 29 got the max, another 11 got 4, and just 8 of us had to settle for 3. Virtually all the drawmongers got a point, only Accybeme and Exile joining MRed on the pointless step :D.

So there was a bit of gentle shuffling around in the body of the table but nothing too dramatic. Quite a few occasional players in this week, and for the first time I've split the table in the middle - which has the additional advantage of keeping Cashman and Dav007 apart :D.

So after a week off (for me) while the lads go looking for a cupset against Notts County, it'll be roll on Carlisle for what I guess is the first league meeting for a good wee while - but I'll leave it up to D3N to get the details right. On Stanley On!!
