Let's be positive and get behind our boys today! Some supporters were suggesting after the York disappointment that we let ourselves down against the lower clubs but tend to play much better against the clubs placed higher up the table..........So it should be a cracker of a match today.....
We can be that twelfth man by giving 100% vocal support. Make as much noise as we can and show the players that we are right behind them...

I was just checking the fixture list on the Fishy site and the Burton re-arranged date is down as 24/02/14 so it appears in the completed fixtures list and is easily overlooked.

Perhaps someone from the Fishy site might like to correct it.

Not a gripe. Just pointing it out.

WHETHER or not the Reds can de-cask ( That's a new word coined for Revived Red's delectation !). the Brewer's ???....well it'll not be an easy matter at all !.

Maybe, but Crooks showed in his cameo how wrong Coley is to play him up front. Donkey is too kind a word for him. Brilliant all round performance from the others, especially Piero yet again and Deano's best game in a Stanley shirt? Burton must have felt they were playing against a hurricane such was the pressure we put them under!

Whilst I agree the crowd numbers were disappointing, I thought the referee was one of the worst seen at the Crown. Goal against the run of play, but then we bossed the game until half time and then again for the first period of the second half, but last 25 minutes was back to the wall, literally. But there again, according to the stats, we had more possession and more shots on target (Burton actually had no shots on target according to the BBC). Whilst it was an enthralling 1-0 win it was also nerve racking. Once again though, why did Coleman take of Gornell (injury perhaps) and replace him with Matt Crooks. He is not a striker, it was like deja vu (Yeovil) watching him run on goal only to be tackled on the edge of the box.

WHAT A SUPERB TEAM PERFORMANCE BY STANLEY TONIGHT!!!:theband:
Every STANLEY player tonight deserves praise.....:mosher:
A team performance full of honest endeavor, good passing football and full of attacking forward play and resolute defence.:alright:
A clean sheet too! A superbly taken goal by Josh Windass from a fast flowing move from the left with an excellent first time shot into the bottom right hand corner!!!!
Stanley played a higher defensive line like they did against Oxford with Procky, Josh, Luke and Anthony Barry in particular pressing forward all the time.:hidewall::hidewall::hidewall::hidewall:
Beginning to think that it is a bit of 'Coley Genius' to play our two best wingers at 'Wing Back'. Both Pierro and Cal defended superbly, timing tackles and interceptions so well and still tearing forward down the wings and creating some excellent attacking play. Cal overlapped on one of my favourite passages of play by getting to the goal line and he pulled the ball back in towards the penalty spot. Burton were very lucky to scramble that one away.:alc:
Terry defended from the front working tirelessy to put defenders off when coming out with the ball.:mosher:
Our players hard work, chasing everything and harrassing them all over the pitch throughout the 94 minutes, stopped Burton from getting into their stride. Tactics spot on tonight Coley and Jimmy.
The ref was doing his best in the last fifteen minutes to help Burton get back into the match but we held out superbly.:dummy2:
The defensive arrangement around Deano, Rob and Seamus is probably the best positional set up for these boys. Seamus got done for pace at right back on friday and he is better at centre back where I think he is cool and rarely wastes a pass. Deano has the pace at Right Back and Rob is just so 'Steady Eddie'. Rob had his bad match on friday when he just seemed to misdirect every pass. Tonight he was a rock and produced an excellent all round performance.
Scott in the goals will be chuffed with a clean sheet against the league leaders and he was strong again tonight and 'captained' the defence well.:hehetable
I ALSO THOUGHT THAT THE FANS PLAYED THEIR PART TONIGHT AND THE SINGING FOR THE LAST FIFTEEN MINUTES CERTAINLY HELPED TO KEEP THE TEAM GOING.:wave8:
Typical STANLEY eh...lose to the next bottom team and then beat the League Leaders.:gooddog:
Three excellent points tonight.

Although not a match with a great deal of quality I thought we did a really professional job on Burton tonight thought JC got his tactics spot on especially in midfield leaving Barry to do the creative bit giving Joycey the room he needs to play and letting Procky do the rough and tumble which he loves. Well done to Josh made up for him scoring tonight looked after he can become a real talent at this level well done to all that turned up them that choose not to more fool them.

Re: Burton Albion Match Thread........

Think the game summed up what Accrington Stanley is all about.
Passion,desire and commitment .
Obviously Coley had done his homework and played 3-5-2 to give us a extra man in midfield.
The first half was like an arm wrestle with both sides holding a high line and defences not willing to conceed ground.
The goal was a worldy by Windass with 25 yard daisy cutter and the keeper hardly moved.
After that we worked our socks off and pressed all over the field.
Make no mistake they are a class side with technically good players, but despite them throwing everything at us our keeper was rarely tested.
In the second half we struggled to hold the ball up and invited pressure, but stood firm.
For me Robs been out of sorts recently but tonight was back to his normal self, dean give beavon nothing all night and was eventually subbed and conneely was composed.
In fact everyone put a shift in and can't praise them enough

We didn't have much of the ball in the second half, but his reading of the game and decision making in defending was excellent.

Re: Burton Albion Match Thread........

I've just watched the highlights of last nights game and it was just 4 and a half minutes long but I think we are getting carried away if we are convinced we are a promotion chasing team.

They may not have had any shots on goal but the two I saw of ours were the goal, which seemed to go through the keeper and the long range shot from Naismith which didn't really trouble their keeper. Other than that the Football League stats show we had 4 shots off target to their 11 and 3 corners to their 7 so on a different night it could easilly have went the other way. However the stats and highlights don't show the good work that we may have done to restrict them to what they got and it didn't show the episode with Crooks although the radio had him through on goal then turning back and heading in the opposite direction.

We are getting good at taking the points off the top teams but often undo it by dropping points against the bottom teams so perhaps we need to adjust our tacticts against them. We could also do with scoring a few goals to improve the goal difference as that could hold us back in any challenge for the playoffs. I'd hate to think what might happen if we lose Gornell to injury for any length of time.

Enough of the realism now. That was a great 3 points and well done all round. Now lets keep it going in the next match and beyond as we have seen that we can do it if we put our minds to it. All it takes is a decent keeper, solid defence and midfield and a proper striker up front :D .

From my perch in the Main Stand, having had fun winding a couple of Burton's Directors up, and boy did they deserve it with their utterly biased comments !....and then having my suggestion that Stanley's playing formation was actually 3-4-1-1-1 with a rotating back four well and truly poo-poohed by F19 ( Who really should know better !). My night was one tinged with disappointment !.
It seemed so hard to understand why, as I watched the Reds do so well to beat a very well-drilled bunch of Brewers, in a most entertaining game, the number watching was so sparse,
( Although the free Meat Pie and Half-time brigade in the Director's area appeared to have increased somewhat !).
Granted the Ewood stiffs were putting on some kind of effort whilst waving goodbye to any vague notion of making the Championship playoffs !, but for the gate to sink below the 1K mark was beyond belief !....Billy Casper's reaction was "well I expect we'll just have to live with it !"... and the more one views the week by week attendance figures it might prove to be so....and there just does not seem to be an answer to the situation !...or is there ??.
Ideas please ?..
In the meantime, well done the Reds !!...Luton and Shrewsbury next !

There seems to be a pattern - a good result (Southend away) attracts a (comparatively) reasonable home following to watch a disappointment (Cheltenham) resulting in a sharp drop for the next home game (Burton) - I've noticed this quite often over the years. Perhaps the good results produce over-confidence in the team as well as over-optimistic expectation amongst the fans.

But even the run to the play-offs didn't produce the gates we might have expected and that side deserved ........ :(

Re: Burton Albion Match Thread........

Don't think anyone is getting carried away with our recent form.
The main aim is to avoid relegation and were on course to do that.
I didn't get too down hearted when we lost 5 on the spin as I genuinely felt felt we would get the FA cup out of our system.
Look at Cambridge, not won in 13 since the utd game,it happens.
Keeping it real, burton are top of the league, was unbeaten since November and scoring for fun.
We have lost two top players in Tom and Jonno, plus Hunty was injured, but coley still worked out how to get the points.
That's far more important than the performance, which was more gritty than pretty due to the fact their a damn good team and by far the best team I've seen this season.
Just goes to show how well we played

For my money young Crooks is being treated like crap by Coleman, He was resigned saying he tried him once as a striker, lies he played him quite a few games as a striker, everyone watching could tell after a couple of outings it was not his position, But no our pig headed manager continued him up front. Then on tuesday night brings him on AGAIN as a striker.:mad:Completely unfair on a kid who apart from Coleman never has been a striker, The lad was clean through again on tuesday night and made a complete balls up of it. was a great result thanks to the lads on the pitch.

Actually, Cashy, I was convinced Coley was bringing Crooks on to bolster the defence, especially as Burton had just brought on a huge c.f. Amazed when I saw him struggling up front! Before I'm accused of being a hater by the usual suspects I always join in with the Clayton End chorus of "Johhny Coleman football genius" at full time. But only when we win! After all, every genius is flawed.

Spot on Redraine, for me he was brought on to defend from the front not to get us a goal !

If Crooks up front is our back up plan for our main striker being injured then I despair.

For those who haven't noticed, he isn't a striker and couldn't score goals last time we tried it and there is nothing I have seen to show that will change. I hope he does and makes those of us who say he couldn't score etc look stupid but as things stand I doubt it.

Give the boy a chance in his proper position.

So Terry Gornell goes off injured, You're playing top of the league who haven't lost since November, You have Liddle, Bruna, Dawber, Bowerman, Maguire, or Crooks to bring on, Who do you bring on with 12 minutes to go?

Do we go all out and try and score more goals and risk losing possession with players out of position or do we bring a target man on (who I believe is good at holding it up) when they're on top to take the pressure off our defence and see the game out?

A few times Aldred has gone up front for the last 10 mins in games to try and get an equaliser/winner, nobody mentioned anything then?

I'm not saying Crooks should be used as a striker every week but for that game and situation, for me he was the best option!

And what if we concede a goal with no striker. Do we convince ourselves that a point is a good outcome?

Re: Burton Albion Match Thread........

So you'd suggest bringing Maguire who hasn't been all that great or maybe even Bowerman who last played when?

I'm not saying bring Crooks on every game as a striker, I'm saying I thought and still think he was the best option to bring on upfront at the time, When our defence was under pressure!!

Re: Burton Albion Match Thread........

I'm not suggesting anything because I'm not the manager. I'm just saying he isn't a striker and if that's our back up plan then God help us.

What do you think our back up plan should be because I wouldn't rely on crooks for goals nor would I blame him

Don't want you to think I am being critical in any way baldy, but from what I have seen The West Ham Wundekinder and George Bowerman are just not good enough !!!....James Gray is apparently a little unsteady on his feet, and has much to learn !...and after that, if Terry Gornell is unavailable for any reason then the bottom of the barrel beckons !.
This being the case, unless a proven striker suddenly appears out of the blue ,which I think all would agree,is not really a likelihood . Then the only remaining option it would seem is that someone steps up and plays out of their favoured position !.
This happened on Tuesday and once again HE didn't score. But seemed to do what was expected of him from a team perspective.
He has got a lot going for him, 2 mtrs plus in height, young strong and fit, and I have the feeling that Matt will develop into a useful addition to the squad !.
Looking forward to his inclusion at some point at Luton tomorrow, where he can be assured of my vocal support !
Hope that everyone comes to agree with me on this !

Anybody in a red shirt deserves our support or whatever colour we happen to be wearing.

However what really ******* me off is when we don't wear red when the colours don't clash. We should always wear red when we can.

And the stars don't stand for anything

Sorry to interject but I'd just like to add the fact that we brought on McCartan - the scorer of our goal in the previous game - at the same time as Crooks.

Do carry on, it's fascinating.

But we didn't play him as a main striker. If we have an out and out striker on it makes space for the rest to attack. Without a striker they are easily stopped. That's why we haven't had a prolific goal scorer.

On way to Luton and missed last night "debate"!! And reading the posts I forgot we won and beat to of the league!!!
Read the thread from the start and see the amount of criticism against praise, unbelievable.
We played a blinder (tactically) and still get stick,so if we get muller end today are we giving praise ? :)
