well, im confident of a big win on tuesday.
When we played Oxford away (thanks again to chubbyman for the lift), we more than matched them until the sending off. Oxford went on to win 3-1, but the scoreline flattered them IMO. I dont rate their manager Michael Appleton |

Let's just get behind the team on Tuesday! I'm confident we will get the result but if some of the players 'are' 'not fully with John and Jimmy' then let's at least give them a reason to get to winning ways for the fans!!
Has the club done any promotional push ? Should be trying to get a full crowd for this game and getting our season up and going ! |

Ok then smart ass lets just not promote a home league game! Makes even more sense to promote it and get people through the turnstiles since we've lost 5 on the bounce! If we'd won 5 on the bounce we wouldn't even need to
Everyone in for a 5ver! |
Re: Oxford (H) match thread
Not easy to promote anything wi no-one employed to do the commercial side of things, whilst we all know moneys tight, its the only avenue that could really improve our lot imho. The 3 employees work there nuts off, but commercial needs its own person.

Re: Oxford (H) match thread
i personally still think we are still "hung over" from our FA cup game against Yeovil and we have struggled to get it out of our system.
Hopefully now we have a different focus/pressure,avoiding relegation, which we have experience of. We will now see who is up for the battles ahead and passion for the shirt,as this is real now and we need to stop the rot. |

Some good points Ash. It is this kind of committment to the club that you have highlighted that makes Stanley the wonderful 'Little Club' that it is!
Results have not been going our way recently but that just highlights the need for ALL of us on the terraces to be fully behind the club, the manager and the team........So....... Once again the 'Next' match tonight against Oxfrord becomes the new......'Biggest match of the season'. We need to be VERY VOCAL AND VISIBLE IN OUR SUPPORT TONIGHT. It is my 'old call' again...... BE LOUD, BE COLOURFUL, SHOW VISIBLY THAT WE ARE ALL BEHIND THE TEAM. SHOUT, SING and please WAVE THOSE FLAGS ON THE CLAYTON END as we welcome the team out at the start of the match and for the start of the second half and of course when we SCORE!!!!!!:thankya: ON STANLEY ON:theband: BELIEVE:cheers: KEEP THE FAITH:wave8::signbeer::drink: |

Great result tonight. Phew. Well done all.:)
17 shots! Brilliant for Gornell to bag the winner in 'Murphy' time. How did Snr.Bruna do? Can't wait for comments, drunk or sober. |

Rob Heys back. Please no, he is a criminal end of. Even before he was found out for what he is, he was pretty damn useless at his day job. Let's bring Cav back to. Just cos he's a true fan doesn't make him untouchable.

Re: Oxford (H) match thread
Wow, what a performance! Anyone querying our team spirit should have been there tonight. Every man jack pulled their tripe out for the cause and nobody took a backward step against a very tough and accomplished side. All 3 new signings were great and I was particularly impressed with our Real Madrid "reject" who showed more skill on the ball than I've seen for a long time in a Stanley shirt ( Piero excepted maybe!). I can't really pick out individuals as I would have to name 11 players. I hope we can build on this and we shouldn't fear any team on this form. More shots on goal than I can remember, also twice hitting the bar, their goalie making fine saves and several shots whistling just wide or over made it a night to remember. Well done Coley for getting them fired up!
|
Re: Oxford (H) match thread
Wahey now there was a performance - see what we can do now we have a striker!
|
Re: Oxford (H) match thread
I agree it was a good hard working performance.
We had better of game after 1st few minutes but oxford had a few close calls including the open goal. Phew! Agree all players played there parts. Though my man of the match would be Rob Atkinson. He was solid at the back and made many important clearances. Sometimes he's a bit of unsung hero. A vital win. |
Re: Oxford (H) match thread
I listened to it on Radio Oxford and there sounded like there was a lot more passion both on and off the pitch. The team looked a lot more balanced with players playing in positions that suited them and a striker up front not a shoehorned loan signing playing out of position. We asked for Coley to learn from earlier mistakes and it sounded like he has. Hopefully we can take it into the next game and again the results near the bottom went not to bad for us.
As a side note the commentators on Radio Oxford weren't happy chappies at the end grumbling about the injustice in true local radio style :D |
Re: Oxford (H) match thread
A gritty battling three points for Accy. Bruna was magic. Anybody who thinks that lot aren't playing for JC is on glue. Davies was solid and Tel W's the target man we've been looking for.
|
Re: Oxford (H) match thread
For me best all round display of the season, against n Oxford side that were pretty uncompromising n a Ref who let em away with it, every man tonight pulled there tripe out, great credit to the new argy who i thought fer a first game was great, a damn good signing, I would give him a contract extension in the morning,:) We can get some serious money fer certain in my view, when the bigger clubs come sniffing. Have just read was James Roberts that missed that sitter, I actually thought Oxford had signed Crooks. PMSL

Re: Oxford (H) match thread
Windlass! Hunt! Gornell! Bruna! All 11 Outstanding
And players don't want to play for Coleman........ On Stanley On |
Re: Oxford (H) match thread
Cashy, I think you have summed that match up perfectly. Each man jack of the Stanley team was worth the red shirt tonight. They played with passion, they put their bodies on the line and that was a match and game well worth the money. I too would give Bruna an contract extension tomorrow morning. I can see him being a real crowd favourite. Terry Gornell put himself about. The one spoiler of the match was the referee, who was keen to pull play back for a foul that occurred a couple of minutes before for OUFC but wouldn't play advantage for Stanley when I thought Josh had scored a perfectly good goal! Hope Bucko' s injury isn't too serious. When I got to the match, I did wonder what the line up would play like, well now I know! On Stanley On.

The whole team played with a passion and fire that was called for! Procky had his best game since his return and hit one 'thunderous, drive very close! Terry Gornell had a great third debut! He acted as a target man but also turned his defenders well and laid off some great passes. He linked up with Bruna and Pierro as if he had been playing with them all season. He fully deserved his goal near the end. Although I fully expected the 'Numpty Referee' to cancel it out as Terry outjumped their keeper and defenders with a great early leap and he was strong in the air. As he fell down the ball bounced up for him and I think he hooked the ball in over his head as he was upside down! The atmosphere was superb in The Clayton End and it was good to see more flags waving! Stanley got stronger as the match continued and although Oxford played some good football and missed one 'Sitter' we eventually got on top of them in the second half. Deano looked more comfortable at Centre Back. Nicky hunt had a good solid game as did Rob Atkinson. Adam Buxton had a good game but perhaps he needs to be allowed to get this niggling injury out of his system. Scott Davies looked solid in goal and 'captained' the defence very well using his experience well. Captain Luke Joyce got better as the match went on and he played a much 'higher line' in the second half with Procky which is where I think they should be! Josh Windass had a really good match and ran and ran. Pierro was superb as usual and he covered so much ground in defence and going forward. Terry just edges the MOM performance for me taking into account his winning goal! A great perfomance and result which could be a turning point now for the rest of the season. Well done to Coley, Jimmy and all the players and supporters for a super night!:alc: My word, I will certainly sleep well tonight!!:sleep8: ON STANLEY ON:theband::rose8: KEEP THE FAITH:wave8::drink: |

Re: Oxford (H) match thread
Hard working performance and finally a clean sheet.
Gornell was the focal point and was busy all night and give their CBs no thinking time and will only get better. Although they had a few chances(created by ourselves),the keeper was never really tested. We had numerous attempt, hitting the bar and post and their keeper making some terrific saves. Positives,we played a very high line and was really solid and gornell was a great outlet. Negatives --- there was a few,but let sleeping dogs lie :) |
Re: Oxford (H) match thread
Miles better than recent performances, good to get a clean sheet and you never know but their lad missing the sitter may just be the turning point for us.
Thought Bruna had a promising debut and has some nice touches. Being critical (am sure F19 will be with me here!), 17 efforts on goal with only 3 on target is not a good enough hit rate |

Can't see why oxford are complaining,we dominated them for 90% of the game and they never applied any sustained pressure because of the high line we played.
Danny Hyland, who's scored 12 this season,is not as effective 40 yards from goal !! |
Re: Oxford (H) match thread
We had some very poor Refs this season, But yon mon tonight ranks up yon wi the worst.
|
Re: Oxford (H) match thread
Gunna have to loan more players out if crowds like 1,065 continue.
Oxford started the better and the four similar chances they had were blocked plus one over the bar, and Stanley had the free kick into the side netting and not too much more in the first half. The crossbar at the start of the second half for and the open goal miss/slip kind of balanced each other out. Oxford had an overhead attempt across the face of the goal shortly before Stanley'scored, an I was in 'I'll take a point' mode. I think both defences conceded a lot of chances but finishing on both side was poor. The Joyce booking and free kick were spot on though, he clipped Hylton with his toe stopping a dangerous attack. |
Re: Oxford (H) match thread
First of all - may I apologise to any Oxford fans.
i thought they where poor when they beat us 3-1 at their place where Gray was sent off, but tonight they where a far better team. MOM - Windass. His work rate, attitude, effort, runs, drive and determination rubbed off on his team mates and I think this lad has real potential to become a good league player. Gornell - good target man, Proctor - much improved Hunt - excellent organisation Bruna - excellent 1st half, tired 2nd half and was rightfully subbed Winnard - good centre back partner for atkinson, they compliment each other Naismith - in his short stint, he was a handful for Oxford Davies - gives the defence so much more confidence and talks to them both verbally and with his hands Substitutions = well timed and effective tactics - change of system in the 2nd half caught oxford out for a while, good to see Coley will mix it up to get results, the team where well set up from the start. Negatives I still think we look vunerable in defence, although part of that is down to a lack of protection at times from the midfield. The referee - what a joke. He allowed Oxford to dictate to him when players went off injured, when the injured player would come back on, allwed them to slow the game down and stop the game when it suited them. He lacked any presence and should never in a million years have booked Winnard - the Oxford player waited for the touch and went down facing the referee asking for the foul! Stanley should get that card rescinded. Ironically, not long after he booked Winnard, Hoban for Oxford dribbled past 3 of our players and I think it was Atkinson who took him down - that was a clear booking and he didnt even talk to Atkinson. Onwards and upwards. |
Re: Oxford (H) match thread
Spine of the team is what makes us tick
keeper scott davies centre defence dean and rob centre mid joucey and proc centre forward terrywell done |
Re: Oxford (H) match thread
Davo !....I agree with most of what you say except for your assessment of Josh Windlass being the MOM !...admittedly he ran around a great deal but, and F19 will I am sure confirm the fact, he consistently gave the ball away, and showed a distinct shortage of nouse when it came to reading the game !
But that does not detract from the overall quality of the players tonight, and a visible return of the spirit and confidence which has appeared to be lacking for a while. In fact I can say that the 4-4-2 rotating with 4-3-3 system, when the wing backs were in an interchangeable mode down the opposing centre-backs right and left channels, whilst blocking the diagonal and elliptical runs from midfield and both wings, worked a treat !. ( Did I get that right F19 ?).... Seriously folks, it was good to see a performance which deserved a win, to witness a 'clean sheet' at last !, and to see the well-earned 3 points widen the gap between the Reds and the dreaded relegation fight !. |

Young Windass showed lots of endeavour but needs to get wired into league two football. If you run around like a chicken with no head, the crowd will love it but it causes all kinds of other problems. We give up counting at 20,the times he received the ball and lost it,you can't do that at this level, never won a header or tackle(please get rid of that hair band!) And rarely took advantage of gornells hold up play. The lads got bags of talent/technique,he just needs to learn to use it in the right way. Not like me to be negative !!,and hope someone gives him the match DVD :) |

A great result. It coulden't have got much worse after last week apparently, so fair play to them for turning it round.
Ive missed the last few weeks due to financial reasons ( £20 again last night too expensive for me at the moment unfortunately). But its nice to hear there has been a change, though make no mistake, Oxford are a VERY average side at the moment. Funny how I mentioned Gornell was one of Stanley's best ever strikers and got shot down by the usual suspect the other month. Now the hard bit, get a result at Southend on Saturday. |

Re: Oxford (H) match thread
I have to say it was a moderately better performance to start off, We looked like a team who were not together for the first 20 mins. We then had a couple of near misses and our confidence grew and we looked more like the Stanley up to Christmas. I noticed Adam Buxton seems to moving more towards an attackinng role at times and has been very unlucky not to have scored at times, He is a good reader of the game and his defending is a cut above at times. I like to see the look on the big strikers faces when they bounce off him. like running into a brick wall. But Piero is a fantastic player along with several other classy players, the Spanish player shows a lot of promise, I was surprised to see his lack of fitness. But overall I am more optimistic now than I was last week. I think John Coleman was right when he said it was a massive game for him and the club. We can realistically still make the play off's
|
Re: Oxford (H) match thread
Realistically?? Not sure about that. I've just worked out that we would need an average of over 2 points per game to reach 71 points (York City's points total from last season).
Not convinced we can do that. I'd be more than happy to be above half way at the end of the season. |

Re: Oxford (H) match thread
Hitting the woodwork/metalwork has never ever counted as a shot on target unless the goalie has deflected it from hitting the target and rightly so as they are misses.
Shots blocked by defenders other than the goalie don't count as shots on target either, I think they should, they only seem to count if they are cleared off the line. |
Re: Oxford (H) match thread
After last night's euphoria having receded a little, just a few random observations:-
We now have the solid keeper we have been missing, with a good kick on him to boot. I don't remembering him making a mess of a single clearance apart from once when his standing foot slipped on a divot. Piero has a wonderful 1st touch when receiving, often taking the ball past the full back and making space in one movement. Windass is an attacking dynamo, in spite of what Footy 19 says, and is 10 times as effective as Maguire. Never has a game gone so quickly for me. I was amazed when half time came up and also had no idea at the time that Gornell had scored so close to full time. When I think of the apparently dull fare served up last night as usual at Ewood, in a morgue-like atmosphere according to their messageboard, it is incomprehensible, if not nearly criminal that less than 1000 Accy supporters turned up. |

By definition the toe efforts that hit the woodwork were not on target - Buxton was unlucky as a great strike and was right behind Bruna's, which whilst unlucky as struck it true and a couple of inches to the right and would have gone in off the post, he should have hit the target IMHO. I completely agree that game stats aren't the be all and end all of everything, but they can give an indication - just wish they'd add whereabouts on pitch teams have possession. |
