2014/15 Prediction League - Game 37 v Wycombe Wanderers (away)
Wycombe Wanderers V Accrington Stanley 2014/15 Prediction League; Game 37 v Wycombe (away) What can’t speak can’t lie; in December the Chairboys didn’t lose in the league (W1 D3); in January they didn’t lose in the League (W2 D3); in February they did lose in the League (at home to Plymouth 2-0 and Newport 2-1) – W2 D1 L2; in March – so far – they haven’t lost in the League, beating Tranmere away 2-1, drawing 2-2 at Southend, and, on Saturday, doing it unto Shrewsbury with a 1st minute goal :) (Sam Wood on 40 seconds). Peter Murphy :D was on the bench yet again (although he did get to play the second half of the game at Roots Hall :o) ............if you put that together with the rest of the season – and remember that this was the side who very nearly ended last season in the Conference, saving themselves only on the last day – their record is P36 W18 D13 L5 F52 A32 for 67 points and 2nd place ........... 5 defeats is the best in the League ;) (next come Burton and Southend, each with eight in the “lost” column; we’ve lost 18 , Carlisle have lost 21 and Hartlepool 22); 52 goals scored is joint second in the League (alongside Stevenage) :D; the Cobblers head that list with 55, 9 of which they scored against us!:eek::eek: 32 conceded is 4th best (Plymouth 26, Shrewsbury 27 and Burton 30) .........for the record, we’ve conceded 59 :( (only Carlisle on 61 have conceded more), but our 43 scored is the same as Southend and Luton, and one better than Plymouth :) – and they’re all in the automatic or Playoff places! :p:p On the last Saturday before Christmas we drew 1-1 with Gareth’s Mob at our place, Sean Maguire equalising just after half time:) ; last season we drew twice; the season before we each won away; the season before that (2010-11) we drew at home and won away :D ; overall since 2006 we’ve played 13 times (they went up at the end of 2008/9 and came straight back down at the end of 2009/10 :p ), winning four, losing 4 and drawing five. Interestingly – well I think it’s interesting – in 13 attempts, neither side has ever scored 3 or more in a single game :D ...............oh, and our record at Adams Park is P6 W3 D2 L1 :D:D .............so, who knows ...............? They’ve loan-signed two MFs from Brentford, which sounds like the opening line of a limerick  .....”There were two midfielders from Brentford .........” ; Sam Saunders (31) was with the Daggers before joining the Bees 6 years ago, and Nico Yennaris (21) moved to Griffin Park from Arsenal last summer, having been on loan earlier. That apart, they seem to be on the same squad as before ....... apart from selling MF Josh Scowan (21) to Barnsley; Paris Cowan-Hall (who scored their goal at our place) to Millwall, who could well be playing Wycombe next season in League One, having booted Ollie and put Neil Harris in his place to the end of the season); and def Anthony Stewart (22) to Crewe; and ProperSigning MF (another one?) Marcus Bean (31) from Colchester – my home-town team :D – who look increasingly like joining us in League Two next season  .........Mr Bean began his career at QPR, playing also for Blackpool and Brentford before joining the Us in 2012 .............To complete the picture, they also signed MF Courtney Senior (17) from Brentford on a one-month Youth loan; for the first five games he was an unused sub; he played the 6th match, and went back to Brentford the next day; Gareth Ainsworth apparently said he’s like to keep him longer; maybe if you’d played him sooner, Gareth .............? :p As well as their 52 in the League, they’ve also managed 3 goals in the Cups – in four games, in three of which they didn’t score! :D Leading scorers are CF Paul Hayes (31), who’s been around a bit, signing for Scunthorpe three times , Barnsley, Charlton and Brentford, as well as loan spells at 5 other clubs, who has 10; Nigerian-born Fred Onyedinma (18) – on loan from Millwall – has 8; Peter “Benchmark” Murphy has seven, most of them scored in the early part of the season; MF Sam Wood (see “Scored against Shrewsbury after40 seconds” above) has five, and so does (the suspended :D ) Matt McClure. Deadline for entries is scheduled kick-off time, which is 7.45pm on Tuesday 17th March, so it is :D. Bejabers. :D:D I can’t begin to guess the side we’ll put out; I just hope they all get the chance to meet each other before the game starts  ..........And I wonder who’s already looking for a new club for next year ............ Good luck to everyone ...............Keep the Faith! ............And thanks for playing! :) :bingobang:bingobang:bingobang |

Fencesitters Profit, But Make Only Modest Progress
Fresh from their success at Burton, Saturday's Top 6 stuck with pessimism for another away game against another automatic promotion challenger - and came unstuck :p along with 3 other doubters. 15 kept the faith :) and received equally meagre reward , just a bonus point if they'd stuck a 2 in somewhere. 11 fencesitters did rather better :), but there were only 3 maximums, 2 coming from default forecasts, Mike A moving from 20th to 17th and Norwich Stanley from 29th to 27th. The third was mine ;), taking me from 25th to 22nd. So no great rewards for anybody, though curiously LongLostSon's mere 3 points gave him the biggest jump, from 14th to 9th . Nearer the top, Bdc pushed on from 7th to 5th, while Deeayess's single bonus point brought him equal on points with Nige B and thus back to 2nd on countback. AngeB's lead remains 16 points, and Cashman in 31st is now the lowest placed possible winner :D, with 45 points available to go for. So roll on the KitKat merchants, who are only out of the relegation places on goal difference. This usually acts as a signal for us to be kind :eek: - but surely not this time? Please?? :jimbo: On Stanley On!! :jimbo: |

Headline change is that all 3 of you at the top should have got a point, so you stay ahead of Deeayess (but no closer to Ange!) Thanks for pointing this out and keeping me on the straight and narrow, it's encouraging to know people actually read the drivel I push out on a regular basis :D |
Re: 2014/15 Prediction League - Game 37 v Wycombe Wanderers (away)
Cheers Chimer I think we all enjoy the 'drivel that you push out' keep it up fella, most enjoyable!

Shock Revision To Prediction League Table As Idiot Reporter's Mistake Corrected Thanks To Player Vigilance
Yes well the moral of the story is "Don't trust a word I say" ....... amendments and additions in red italics Fresh from their success at Burton, Saturday's Top 6 stuck with pessimism for another away game against another automatic promotion challenger - and came unstuck :p along with 3 other pessimists. 15 kept the faith and received equally meagre reward, a bonus point if they'd stuck a 2 in somewhere. 11 fencesitters did rather better, but there were only 3 maximums, 2 coming from default forecasts, Mike A moving from 20th to 14th and Norwich Stanley from 29th to 24th. The third was mine, taking me from 25th to 20th. So no great rewards for anybody, though unsurprisingly LongLostSon's 3 points did not give him the biggest jump, from 14th to 13th. Nearer the top, Bdc, Jim's Lad and Tommy McQueen climbed over Football 19 to take 6th, 7th and 8th, while the Top 5 all took a single BP so nothing changed there. AngeB's lead remains 15 points, and Cashman in 32nd is not the lowest placed possible winner with 15 points available to go for - that honour rests with Accymad in 30th. The attached table has also been revised. So roll on the KitKat merchants, who are only out of the relegation places on goal difference. This usually acts as a signal for us to be kind - but surely not this time? Please?? |
