2014/15 Prediction League - Game 38 v York City (home)
Accrington Stanley V York City 2014/15 Prediction League; Game 38 v York City (home) The table doesn’t lie; York are where they are – 21st, on 37 points, and above Tranmere and Cheltenham only on goal difference - partly because they’ve only won seven League games all season ; Cheltenham have won 8, Tranmere and Hartlepool nine, and we’ve won 13 :D (although sometimes it doesn’t feel like it :p:p) .....So the trick, surely, is to beat the teams you really need to beat – those around you – the six-pointers ; if you ignore their win at 7th placed Stevenage, their other six wins have been at home to us (17th) 1-0 and Tranmere (22nd) 2-0, and away at Cambridge (18th) 3-0, Carlisle (20th) 3-0, Hartlepool (24th) 3-1, and Cheltenham (23rd) 1-0 :) ................... six wins, against the teams lying 17th, 18th, 20th, 22nd, 23rd and 24th ...........Harry Houdini couldn’t have fixed that any better! ;) You might think from that set of scores (3 goals scored in each of three of those games, and just one conceded in all six) that they’re free scoring, with a defence tighter than a duck's arse :D:D .............wrong! In 41 games (including the Cups) they’ve hit the net 37 times :), the post 63 times ;), the crossbar 78 times  and the back of the stand 243 times :p (ok, ok, so I made those up ...............) and conceded 50. Better, from our point of view, is the fact that in 18 of 37 games they’ve scored “nul goals” :D:D. It took them, incidentally, 16 games before they won (@ Cheltenham) ...............and their next four games after us are against Mansfield, Cheltenham, Oxford and Hartlepool :); talk about having your fate in your own hands (as the Irishman said to the Chiropodist :o) They allowed experienced defender Dave Winfield (26) – once of Aldershot, Wycombe and Shrewsbury – to go out on loan to the Wombles; they ProperSigned former Macclesfield, Posh and Northampton striker Emile Sinclair (27) after a bit of MutualConsenting :D; they’ve loan-signed Spurs’ forward Shaquille Coulthirst (20), who we’ve already come across during his earlier loan at Southend, where he scored 4 in 25; they also have the Blades’ u20 Italian international striker Diego De Girolamo (19) – currently on a second loan, but he’s turned down a new contract at Sheffield, “really likes it” at York (some people are easily pleased, n’est-ce pas?), and is leaving Bramhall Lane at the end of the season; watch this space! :p Finally, they did have Walsall LB Malvind Singh Benning (21), but he was recalled three days ago by Walsall as cover for an injured player – so they haven’t got him any more! :D Leading scorers are striker Jake Hyde with 8, Wes Fletcher (who we had on loan from the Dingles a couple of seasons back, you’ll remember, and who unimpressed quite a few people with his lack of work-rate and apparent dis-interest ) with 7, defender Keith Lowe with 5, and strikers Michael Coulson and Diego De Thingy :D, both with 4. This week’s starter for 10 is “why isn’t there a starter for 10?”; the answer is that I can’t think of one, but I’ll try really hard for the next thread, ‘cos I know how you enjoy them! Deadline for entries is scheduled kick-off time, which is 3.00pm on Saturday 21st March (please note that there are now only 278 shopping days to Christmas); it’s also the 9th Anniversary of the founding of Twitter ;), the day when Alcatraz closed (1963), and the day that Henry V became King of England  ..........Isn’t this educational? :p This would be a Good Game To Win, Mr Messiah Sir :D, and so would the up-coming games against Carlisle at home and Hartlepool away – the more so since the Monkey-Hangers have just won back-to-back games for the first time all season, and are creeping nearer to the peleton :( ...........and we all remember what happened to Wycombe and Brizzle Rovers last season ............and Ronnie Moore says that his team “should not be afraid of any other side” .............Except maybe Burton, Wycombe, Shrewsbury ...................... :D:D:D Good luck to everyone ...........Keep the Faith! ...........Buy a Brick! (no, BUY a brick :p)..........and thanks for playing!:) :help::help::help: |
