Morecambe Match Thread
Obviously everybody else has gone to the seaside, so I'll start this at half time - 1-1 and down to 10 men with Terry G sent off. Went behind but equalised 3 minutes later - thank you Lloyd Jones.
Oxford, Tranmere and Hartlepool winning, Daggers, Mansfield, Cambridge and Carlisle losing, York and Cheltenham drawing (with one another). Bearable if nothing changes, and surely Stevenage and Newport can get back on terms (at least) with Tranmere and Hartlepool? |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
your missing John Colman and morecambes goalkeeping coach being sent to the stands listening to radio lancs .. thought Jamie hoylands and dans description of what was going on was interesting ...
|
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
I can't bear listening to commentary - me nerves can't stand it! My only source is Beeb live (nearly)(sometimes) text.
|
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
well all the commentators are saying its a very good game .. and Jamie hoyland was talking to someone at halftime who had set off from burnley at 12.30pm .. and had just got there due to the bank holiday traffic ...
|
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Wilson misses penalty.
|
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Are the players doing what they're told now? Get sent off and give away a penalty. Perhaps they're just following their manager's example.
|
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
And James Gray scores his second this afternoon for Northampton.
|
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Well if the Shrimps can't beat us when we've only 10 men, and we give them a penalty .... so sad for them :D
And Newport and Stevenage did peg back Hartlepool and Tranmere, so despite Carlisle getting a late equaliser that's not a bad set of results. |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Not only James Gray but also Will Hatfield scored today for our "rejects". Maguire missed a hatful of chances according to the beeb too!
"You'll never beat the Stanley!" |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
We never got yon, due to mental traffic.:( Finished up watching Preston v Rochdale, twas a good match, n we were very pleased to here Agent Wilson got us a good point.:D
|
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Good point today; I feared it might be the end of the unbeaten sequence but the Shrimpers have surely angered the Voodoo Gods of Football in some way.
Stanley's recognised striker now banned. Stanley's unrecognised striker scores two more for Northampton. It must be a racing certainty that Mr.Crooks will be draughted in as CF for the next game, rather than recall Mr.Gray. |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
well coleman loans a recognised striker, but aint started him, does that mean he thinks the lad aint good enough?

It sounded like a feisty derby on radio lancs, there is a question and answer session after the supporters club meeting. So come along and ask John why grey and Hatfield are out on loan. ask him to explain his decisions with loan signees on the bench. 8.00pm on the 9th of April. PS Bring your coaching badges to prove you are qualified to ask a question.

Re: Morecambe Match Thread
The stats on the BBC Sport website look good for Stanley, shots on and off target, corners, possession. And to say we played for over 50 minutes with only 10 men. The lads must have put a shift in and Adam got a run out. Really pleased with the point. Couldn't get there today due to illness........:D

Re: Morecambe Match Thread
What a nightmare!!,3 hour drive, got on the ground to a large roar, saw their players celebrating,so decided to get a drink.
Heard another roar, ran out and we had scored !!,missed both goals :) Back to the game, both teams went 3-5-2 and it was decent game in which we played most of the football. Keeper and back three were good and once again Joycy was excellent. Terry has to learn you can't throw tackles in like he did, defo sending off. Ref made a couple of bad calls, crooksy looked at Ellison and down he went, never a penalty. Jones then took a quick short free-kick and all the players weren't watching,Devitt was and he raced away to score, defo goal. He evened it up tho as we were denied a stone wall penalty. Good point and everyone put a shift in,toss up for M.O.M between Joycy,Atkinson and Piero. Positives- Acci" never say die attitude"and Bucko looked fresh and full of ideas. Negatives - Barry was a bit rusty and Kai was either good or poor, needs to get his decision making better and consistency will follow and Shaun struggled to hold the ball up( he's a better 10) What ever Morecambe fans say,we play most of the football, whilst they played very narrow and played into our hands One more win will do nicely KTF |

Re: Morecambe Match Thread
:mosher:Choirboy and daughter set off from Clayton at 1pm for the 55 minute trip to The Globe Arena anticipating three more points.:p
Despite using my cycling knowledge of the roads it still took us 2 hours and 15 minutes to get there. We finished up coming into Lancaster from the south on the last bit of the A6. Nightmare!....:mad:it took about 40 minutes to do the last two miles through Lancaster centre to the bridge over the River Lune. We arrived at 3.15pm!:( The ultras were in good voice and we promptly added the sound of our plastic 'single note' horns to the chanting!:jimbo: The match was looking pretty even until at a Morecambe corner the Ultras gave a bit too much stick to Kevin "The Swimmer/Diver" Ellison......Yes.. he scored from the corner!!!!!. I feared the worst but we went upfield and Jones got the ball outside their penalty box and I said to myself inwardly, 'Shoot', but he didn't and the ball went out to our wing and then eventually came back to Jones in more or less the same position and my goodness this time did he shoot? .......He curled the ball superbly from 30+ yards out to the right of centre into the top left corner with a superb shot!...what a goal... and I thought..."Yes, we are back in the game!":mosher: Then there was handbags at two yards in the dugout with Jimmy Bell appearing to separate the 'Heavyweights!' Coley was sent to the stand in his lovely blue tracksuit. Soon after Terry G went in for a tackle a long way upfield from the Stanley end and was sent off, it appears on the say so of the assistant referee. It was too far away for us to make a judgement but there was probably no need, so far upfield, for Terry to make a tackle where he seemed to be over stretched!:( The Ultras kept on singing as we do and we held out until half time.:mosher: The second half started with Morecambe subjecting our defence to some pressure but the defence and particulaly Scott in goal looked pretty solid. There was a flurry of substitutions. Morecambe were awarded a penalty for what looked to be a 'dive' from Ellison after being 'monitored' by Crooksy. Although again, "It was reight up t'other end o't'field".. IT LOOKED LIKE THE REF WAS CONNED BY AN EXPERT CHEAT TO ME!. :dummy2: 'Special Agent', Laurie Wilson aimed for the roof of the stand and thankfully he was successful...Still one all! ;) Cal went off for Buxton to come on. Cal had done ok going forward but did some risky stuff trying to beat players in midfield but losing possession a bit too much. Shay had run his heart out and was subbed along with Anthony Barry who had worked hard too, with Saun Maguire and Seamus Coneely coming on. Adam looked really solid defensively and very strong going down the left. Seamus helped to choke any forward movement by The Shrimpers and Sean ran his heart out chasing everything down up front. We got on top with our hard working "Magnificent Ten Men". All through the match, Pierro had been doing what we expect, chasing back, tackling like a tiger, linking well going forward, taking on the full back, creating chances! He was my clear 'Man of the Match' once again.:mosher: Josh had been working hard too and got into some great positions but I just wish that he would leard to do the 'Simple' thing sometimes. A classic situation was Pierro and Sean creating a move which found Josh twenty two yards out with Adam Buxton tearing up the left into an even better position but Josh tried his 'too clever, too often, step over ' on the last defender and lost possession. Adam would have been in a much better position to score had he got the simple pass. Josh has clearly got the potential to go on to be a great player but he needs to learn that 'skill' sometimes means doing the simple things well! The longer the match went on the stronger we got and we looked the team more likely to score.:mosher: In the end a draw with ten men felt like a victory and we all came away happy to have maintained our MAGNIFICENT RECORD OVER OUR RIVALS FROM THE BAY!:theband: Results from teams below us were not as bad as they looked at half time and we continue on our journey to mid table security! THE REFEREE WAS THE WORST I HAVE AVER SEEN!:dummy2::bingobang:niet::idunno::behead::s_co ol::swear8::signwier: It was a pleasure to watch our players today, giving there all physically and being creative going forward.:mosher: The STANLEY SUPPORT WAS SUPERB and COLEY AND JIMMY SEEMED TO GET THE TACTICS AND SUBSTITUTIONS SPOT ON! A GRAND DAY OUT GROMIT LAD! :mosher:(apart from the slow journey northwards) We came home via 'The Trough of Bowland' and were rewrded with beautiful scenery and a lovely rainbow. It took us just 70 minutes!:hothothot ON STANLEY ON:wave8::drink: |

Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Yesterday I thought we were played absolutley magnificent and on another day could have easily won the game and yet nearly lost the game. Suppose thats football for you!
The lads put in a really big effort to get the point and the last 30 mins I had to count we still actually had 10 men. John and Jimmy deserve credit for a tactically sound 2nd half display when penalty aside we never really looked threatened. Terrys challenge was a poor one and having seen it again it was a definite red card. Who or what formation we go with on Monday is a different story and will be interesting to see what we go with. Possibly we may see Gilchrist given a go. Its a shame a few fans got caught up in traffic which i must say was ridiculous you couldnt move on most parts of the m6, luckily I left quite early. I'm sure if more would have made the would share the view of it being an excellent performance. The ones who did make it as always were in great voice and gave great support. 8 points above with 6 games to go should touch wood be enough for us. Onwards and upwards. KTF |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Good point, they should have put us to the sword but the penalty miss was key.
Ellison slapping his head in good natured banter to the baldy jokes, then doing it again 5 seconds later when he scored was amusing to a degree, although the obese Stanley fan who tried to get to him but was far too slow didn't think so. |

Some trains north from Preston were cancelled so I wish I had driven at one point. The last train to reasonably get there on time from Ossy was 11.55 am, not sure what time the traffic got bad? At least there was a decent IPA for us that didn't drive. |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Another master class from coley and bell, the perfect duo for Stanley

Re: Morecambe Match Thread
T'was a good derby game! Had all the ingredients! Plenty of noise, plenty of beer, sendings off, manager agro, a great goal and another point against the shrimps!
Was a gutsy performance by the stanley and in the last ten minutes we could of actually scored all 3 if we just had the legs! Piero once again and warrior, great defensive performance and i thought buxton coming on for the once again disappointing Kal secured the point for us! Thought there would of been more stanley fans following for this local(ish) good friday derby as i think the effort the players put in yesterday deserved more! however alot were stuck from the pathetic traffic on the motorway! A win on Monday and hopefully we will be close to ANOTHER year in the football league! Great passion from Coley but shame he got sent to the stands! Heres a video of it all: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeh9sljl5bU LETS GET BEHIND THE REDS ON MONDAY!!!!! |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
the video is great, once he has gone all you can hear (over the noise of the seaside main stand) is the Stanley fans singing. Good effort yon lot.

Re: Morecambe Match Thread
another question did the Ref. get the decision on the Divett goal wrong,
Windass places the ball then Crooks appears to play a quick free kick, Divett nips in and steals the ball, the Ref clearly blows his whistle straight after Divett's steal then proceeds to run down the pitch to score see the game on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5qiSlp70zI |

Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Technically your correct Chewbacca, but if the ref had realised that he would have blown straight away and booked Devitt,he didn't.
We tried to play a suicidal quick free kick and got away with it. |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Maybe the ref verbally said something and Devitt failed to hear him
|
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
From seeing it on a laptop screen and not 'live', it looked to me as though Mr.Crooks (I think) pointed towards the half-way line and gently toe-ended the ball forward a few feet. That would tally with the comment about the foul being further forward. Mr.Windass didn't look to be about to take the free kick, which might have because the ref hadn't blown his whistle (?).
As F19 suggests, whatever the reason it's some recompense for all the crap decisions Stanley have had to suffer this season. |

The 10 yard rule is used around the penalty area when the Ref. has stops play. if a player wants to take an advantage from a quickly taken free kick in the outfield then the 10 yard rule does not apply |

Re: Morecambe Match Thread
As far as I know, the 10 yds rule applies everywhere. You don't have to wait for the oppo to retreat, but they can't get involved within the 10 yards if they haven't.

Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Here you go ....
Free Kick Rules in Soccer Learn the rules of football's direct and indirect free kicks that you may not have known before http://www.football-bible.com/soccer...-free-kick.jpg There are two types of free kick , direct and inderect. A free kick is used to restart a play after a foul in football. Free kick rules are specified in Law 13 of the FIFA Laws of the Game. Generally, in any free kick, an opposing player cannot stand closer than 10 yards (9.15 meters) from the free kick spot. The only exception to this is when an indirect free kick is awarded inside the penalty area (see: Parts of a soccer field). Here, the opposing players form a wall on the goal line. When a player is taking free kick inside his penalty area, the opposing players should stay outside the penalty area, at least 10 yards from the ball, till the ball is played or kicked. Direct free kick rule Direct free kicks are also known as one touch kick, since only one touch is required for a goal to be awarded. This kick should always be taken at the spot where the offence took place, and the ball should always be in a stationary position when taking the kick. A player can kick the ball straight into the goal from a direct free kick. However, when an offence worth of a direct free kick is committed inside the penalty region; a penalty kick is awarded instead. According to FIFA's law, a direct free kick is granted for infractions like: - Jumping at an opponent player. - Kicking or attempting to kick a player. - Tackling a player illegally. - Charging at an opponent player. - Pushing an opponent player. - Tripping or attempting to trip an opponent player. - Handling the ball with a purpose. - Holding a player. |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
The ref blew his whistle as soon as Morecambe grabbed the ball less than 10 yard so it had to be retaken

|
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
thanks for the free kick rules mab
some Ref's are in error of this rule as I have seen many quickly taken free kicks where the opposing team players have been closer than the prescribed 10 yards and the Ref has not ordered the free kick to be retaken. one that comes to mind is Henry's goal here on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCWjioIR5MM |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
If my memory serves me correctly, should Devitt not have been booked for ungentlemanly conduct. Also, I believe, if a ball strikes a player from the free kick who has not retreated the prescribed 10 yards, that too is an automatic yellow card or has this rule been amended? From a personal point of view, Crook got away with it a little bit as had he moved the ball with his hand it could not have been classed as being taken, but because he used his feet Devitt may have wrongly assumed it had. Either way Stanley had a bit of fortune (for once) with this referee but the ref was wrong in not booking Devitt!

Thing is wi refs, the one at the Preston match, no idea who he was, Gave everything to Rochdale, certainly was no homer, we said he musta been refing a few Stanley games fer sure.:D
