Snake
In talks with Portsmouth, why leave a playoff chasing league 1 team for a mid table league 2 team.
Sky sources: Deal tabled for Chesterfield boss Cook to join Portsmouth | League 2 Football News | Football365 |
Re: Snake
Money i reckon, thats snake to a tee.
|
Re: Snake
Sense I reckon.
Portsmouth have the infrastructure to go up to the Premier League. Chesterfield do not. I don't get the hate for Cook - if he was an player who went on to better things we'd be wishing him well. |
Re: Snake
Oh so truth is hate sam?
|
Re: Snake
Now that Chesterfield have failed in their promotion bid I wouldn't be surprised to see Paul Cook move on, he may jump before he's pushed - I don't hate him, just don't have any time or respect for him & couldn't help a smirk this afternoon to see Preston demolish them with a 4 nil aggregate score

Re: Snake
Good manager, wish him well
|
Re: Snake
Accy v portsmouth 1st home game of season that would be a bit tasty!
Plus a massive away following |
Re: Snake
According to the BBC the deal is done, with Leam possibly taking over at Chesterfield! They will both be back in league 2 before long then.
|
Re: Snake
Must admit I have always liked the way his teams play the game.
He's obviously mapped a route to get as far as he can up the managerial ladder as possible and have no problem with that. I heard months ago that he would be the Wigan manager within two years (and that was before relegation !! ). So Portsmouth will just be another stepping stone for me :) |
Re: Snake
gone up the financial ladder to fratton park. if they don't get play offs at least will slither away and check his bank account. not one who I would invite to dinner.

Re: Snake
Confirmed - Portsmouth announce 'Cook is new manager.'

Meanwhile, talks are ongoing with his assistant Leam Richardson about joining the Blues coaching team. Read more at Portsmouth appoint Paul Cook as manager Pompey Chesterfield have announced that Leam has also left the club. |
Re: Snake
Has Leam been got shut of? aint seen nowt to say hes joined snake? n was the reason he went Chesterfield to have less travel?
|
Re: Snake
Local radio down here has Pompey chairman saying Cook will be able to bring in the people he wants .... Leam was mentioned but nothing definite.
Also apparently Cook already knows which players he wants to keep, so looks like there must have been earlier contacts between him and the club, bit distracting when you might expect he'd have been focused on Chesterfield's playoff efforts ...... |

But Pompey fans are not daft. If they aren't top by Xmess, they'll be wanting to know why. |

Chesterfield turned down Portsmouth approach in April, I really don't think anyone beleives that nobody has spoken to anybody in that time :) |

I won't forget that trip to Oxford in a hurry. Quite simply the worst Stanley performance I've ever seen. We should have lost 10-0 that day, but if my memory is correct it was during Mr Dunbavin's golden spell. |
Re: Snake
Yoohoo .... spireite here ;)
Cook applied for the Birmingham job earlier in the season, he's been trying to get out for at least a year. Board were wanting rid because of off field stuff. Suspect deal for Saunders as our new manager felt out on 2nd Feb when spoke at a dinner at our ground. Next day Cook signs new deal with a buyout clause. Coincidence ? When Portsmouth were 'refused permission' the deal was already practically done. Not sorry to have had him here, it's been a great 2 years, but bad taste left by the last few weeks. |
Re: Snake
Understand yeh , he has got talent, but fer me a total "Mercenary" plus a snake to boot.;)
|
Re: Snake
Just a question, If Paul Cook is a "Mercenary" doesn't that make Leam one too?
Quite a few Chesterfield fans wanted Leam to take over Cooky but "They must have just waved £50 notes under his nose" too |

Re: Snake
So Cooky should have said when a bigger club come knocking "Hang on until summer and il come then!"?
People need to realise that it's just a job for most managers and players, The only loyal people are the fans at any football club! |
