Re: Starting Eleven versus Luton Town.

Difficult choice, but it's a home game so I would go against my "clean sheet first" principle and it's probably the same as Ash's

Re: Starting Eleven versus Luton Town.

Change to a 4-4-2 with kee up top with Gornell when seeing game out :)

Re: Starting Eleven versus Luton Town.

As pitches/weather worsen then Matty is the man for the holding role in midfield, proper tough lad who can defend and play a bit too !!

Do you think we might start the game with 10 men :eek:as your line up suggests?

My thoughts are
Etheridge or Mooney
Buxton, Winnard, Davies Pearson
Crooks, Conneely and Wright
Windass, Gornell and McConville or Kee

Re: Starting Eleven versus Luton Town.

with so much quality competition for places I sincerely hope that Coley doesn't keep the faith with players who aren't performing. That is part of his charm for some players and why they will play for him but there are going to be some players this year who just don't get a look in. If they cant see a way in when those in possession of the shirt are playing crap then the strength in depth starts to look weak.

Proccy has been a favourite of mine throughout his career but there is some real potential with some of this squad and he can't expect to walk straight back in.

Gornell is quality when his head is in the game, but so is Kee. Morgan and Carver have promise and youthful energy but will need to see game time.

Bruna? can't see where he fits in at the moment but he has pedigree and will bring us in some cash come January if he gets a run.

Coley does favour a regular line up but this year we have the squad to play the right team against the right opposition, use it and we'll do well :)

Agreed, Between Deano and Procter

Bruna could play Left back (as he did at Marine)

Windass will be gone in January :)

Re: Starting Eleven versus Luton Town.

So may difficult choices to make !!
Couple of things to throw in the mix, playing friendlies is one thing but league two football will be entirely different, and you have to get the right balance between youth and experience.
A good start for me would be four wins from the first ten games.
On the plus side we still have loan signings to compliment the side.
We have some great attack minded players in our team, but clean sheets is key (sorry redraine!) and build from there .

I agree entirely Rob. From what I have seen so far this season, admittedly a limited amount, Morgan would easily be my first choice at c.f. but I somehow doubt Coley will see it that way.

Been a little disappointed with Morgan's first few games as he's got a reputation as a "goal machine",but on Saturday he was excellent, so I'll put it down to getting his fitness levels up and he certainly has to come into consideration.

Who gave him that rep? he aint scored hardly any goals before we signed him. looks like he could be ok though.

Terry is colemans 1st choice. Clear to see. Id like to see Morgan get a chance but got a feeling he might be a bit part..... GOALS TALK.

Cashy, instead of hoarding your millions under the floor boards, get a dodgy box and MUTV/LTV, fantastic coverage of youth and 21s scene.

Re: Starting Eleven versus Luton Town.

After watching Stanley v Burnley and also against Blackpool I have got to say, Coley has got one of those nice problems to have, who to leave out and who to play. Proccy is going to struggle to get back into the team, in the meantime, I would suggest Deano as captain. I wouldn't like to say who should be striker(s) but as I said, nice problem for Coley. I now think he should play 4-4-2 at home and away initially after all, attack is the best form of defence.

Mooney

Winnard, Davies, Wright, Buxton

Conneely, Crooks

Windass

Mingoia, Gornell, McConville

Personally I'd play Gerry Brown instead of McConville, but that's the side that's gonna play

Re: Starting Eleven versus Luton Town.

One of the things I saw against Blackpool that I liked was that in McConville, Windass and Crooks we have 3 players who can cover a lot of ground with the ball. I don't think we've had that for a good while and it's imperative for teams that historically don't like to defend, it'll relieve the pressure whilst we re-organise. I think we'll possibly get found out against some teams and get a whupping, but in general I think we'll smash a lot of teams just like in 2009.

Roll on 4th place methinks

I agree, unlike all the bookies and the Millwall supporting Rod Liddle writing in today's Sunday Times with his annual predictions on relegation and promotion. "Slipping out of sight, away from us Dagenham and Accrington", just as he has for the last few seasons at least. I usually just laugh at his lack of insight, but this time he adds, "Accrington, for whom oblivion has been a much loved friend"! Now I don't quite get the exact meaning of those words - does anyone else? I intend to contact him if I can in order to ask him and let him have a few choice words to jog him out of his oh so clever smugness.

Re: Starting Eleven versus Luton Town.

its up to coley who he picks. it makes a change to have a luxury of a lot of players in competition for places unlike the start of the last few seasons. this column will be busy over the next few weeks as fans will take to some new players more than others. Saturday is our first step to play offs or better.

Don't waste your time, Red, it'll only pander to his self-delusion that his opinions are in any way more important than those of any other idiot.
