Morecambe Match Thread
I love away trips to Morecambe, apart from some great results and fightbacks there, this fixture usually produces a good game.
Put in a performance like on Tuesday night, and we have every chance of a win today. Gornell back into starting 11? He did score on Tuesday. Also Coneeley to replace Barry I reckon. Also how good has Winnard been in the last 2 games, can remember at least a dozen key tackles/interceptions/blocks so far. |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Absolutely gutted! Morecambe didn't do us over, we did ourselves over - no more to say on the subject :(

We were poor and it could have been more. I had a bad feeling about today and it proved correct.
For those who think we are promotion material it is a wake up call but we can and will get better. |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Does Josh Windass' miss mean he owes the club the league title?
That's how it works if someone misses an easy chance isn't it? |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Footballs a funny game !,we started what looked a 4-3-3 line up and we dominated the first half and went in one down, unbelievable!.
We weren't as dominant in the second half, but we were by far the better side. How josh missed an open goal from three yards about summed up the day. Just need to start scoring to reward the great football were producing. If I was nit picking, our front three were miles apart and as fatigue kicked in the centre forward became isolated. Defensively we were excellent and was only undone by a cut back and their midfielder not being tracked (think it was Barry). Performance was good, pity about the result |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Well my two pence worth...... First time in a while!
If that is all we have to show over 90 minutes then I really am I worried man. When Winnard has to go up front you know things are desperate. Fancy triangle possession football on the half way line might be great at the Nou camp, Barcelona but not on a Saturday afternoon in Morecambe. No penetration, yes young Josh misses a sitter but we deserved absolutely nowt. As others have said, Mingoia and Windass seem to be on another planet to the rest of the side, by far our biggest threats. I would love to know how many blades of grass Piero covers over 90 minutes, a wonderful player. As for Crooks I really would love for someone to tell me what he brings to the side.... Ive seen an ape playing with a melon in Chester Zoo have better ball control than him.... Truly dreadful for me. Gornell looked nowhere near fit to me ??? Thought Kee showed some nice touches but again.... looked unfit. Quite strange that Buxton was left out..... For me he is a sure starter if fit! A long hard season beckons on that showing........... But it's fine we have the greatest management team on the planet !!! |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
I wasn't there so can't comment on the performance, but am encouraged by reports that we were the better side. From what I've seen this term I'm sure the results will come once we get our best front options settled down. Mansfield had better watch out on Tuesday!

Anyway I don't think anyone could begrudge us a result today , the run had to end sometime. |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Domination does not win games it's goals and they should have scored again long before windass missed when they hit the woodwork and missed the rebound. I presume the disallowed goal was offside for them as it was down the far end.
We did have a lot of possession and they didn't look that great but they still got their first league win and that's a downer today. Hopefully we have learned but that's two league games in a row where we are lacking a cutting edge. |

That's how I saw it , we never panicked and they were chasing shadows, indeed they took moly off not long after half time to go narrower,it really looked like we were the home team and for large parts tried to force the pace. |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Well I must have been watching a different game to others . We started well , then fell asleep after ten mins , half time was no better , but the last five minutes were brilliant , we did actually start playing .
It had to be a downer today after the superb performance they gave on Tues against Hull I bet they still worn out from it. Anyway it's been and gone so bring on Tuesday. |

Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Post from their forum " Accrington should have won, they were the better side. And played most of the football"

Re: Morecambe Match Thread
It wasn't exactly attack v defence, but make no mistake - Morecambe came out as the away side; it was their knockout cup tie and they were set up as such.
Accy were in control for the large part in my opinion. The fact that we didn't create more clear chances was purely down to the amount of Morecambe bodies playing behind the ball. You can't be so short sighted as to pour scorn on the Stanley players for that. A bit more luck for Josh and we're drawing with a view to winning the game. Gutted to see the end of those wonderful 10 years. Saying that - I remember the days when we used to gaze upwards and aspire to play Morecambe at a national level. That time came, we surpassed them in promotion to the Football League and proceeded to smash them for a decade. I can live with that. |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
what a boring 97 minuites of football. we had no penetration once we got into the last third if the pitch. nice little tippy tappy midfield play and plenty of possession against a side that were there for the taking. forget the miss by joss and his first half shot that was all we had to offer upfront. they were poor but still looked the most likely to score. improvement needed on Tuesday night with a bit more directness.

Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Season,s are,nt shaped on the the first 2 games it takes every team 8 or 9 games to get the shape of the team right last season Cheltenham were in the top 3 early doors and went down, as for the game yesterday I thought it was,nt a good game to watch both sides in typical early season form wrong time of the season for derbies for me lacked any passion shown usually at these games as Nick says no need to panic so early on.

Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Simplistic game plan, keep possession of the ball and they can't score, keep the ball moving and they have to chase it and finally take your chances when they come.
We did two reasonably well, the goals will come, windlass,Morgan, kee and crookes had half chances, and we got into good areas but went sideways instead of pulling the trigger. We are a very young inexperienced team and will learn fast. Tuesday's game will be tough as they will be on a high beating notts county away. Need to start will a clean sheet !!! |

Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Well you have all being crying out for Adam Morgan to either get a start or come on off the bench. He did yesterday and not one of you who went to the match has mentioned this fact! How did he do in the 20 or so minutes he played after replacing Coneelly? According to the Beeb, he missed our best chance not Josh, but hey ho I wasn't there so cannot comment on that one. The run had to end sometime and as shakermaker has said, we aspired to be at the level Morecambe were at and then surpassed them. All these years without being beaten has now come to an end. On to Tuesday night and Mansfield come to town. Back on track, we all hope.

Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Think we lost this one from being tired myself! The hull game I though had took it out on our players and most of them looking lethargic and like others have said not that very penetrating against the not so amazing Morecambe defence! Good goal for Morecambe with a great passing move but after that it was every man behind the ball to get a result! Things just didn't tick for Stanley yesterday but we need to start hitting the target and finishing these chances! This is why we have players such as Gornell and Kee and I think they both need to up their game!! Piero I thought should of carried on running towards goal and finished it himself instead of slowing it down and passing it to Morgan who then should of equally of finished and Windass should of easily bagged also but they had the look as we wasted the chances!
Like watching some of the nice football we play too but for me crooks look tired and kept on slowing the ball down and then trying to turn all the time with it which obviously Bentley and the players have done their homework as he kept getting found out! Need a win on Tuesday to kick off our season! :) |

Clear to see that they are good players, is it just matter of giving them chance to gel? As it's been said already, Morecambe put many men behind the ball making it harder for us in the final 3rd...Im sure it will click and someone will be on the end of a hiding, just hope it's sooner rather than later! |

I may not have worded my post correctly (funny yonmons not pulled me up!),i meant young in terms of experience. I have always said you should only class yourself as a football pro when youve played fifty league games. Of yesterdays starting eleven(including morecambe game) Mooney 9 Pearson 10 Davies 2 Wakefield 7 Connelly 14 Crookes 16 Windass 29 Even Piero has only 73 league games under his belt.. That to me is very inexperienced !!!! |

Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Morgan didn't do nothing wrong, but played too deep for me.
He's not blessed with searing pace and his game is similar to frannie Jeffers ( on the shoulder and sniffing a chance out) Good player tho, like most young lads he needs game time to develop,it a difficult as its a results industry!!!. It's a long season and he will get opportunities I am sure of that. Thought their CB (Edwards) had a good game and they packed the midfield in the second half. |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Thanks for that, Football19. I hope he gets a start on Tuesday!
|
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Disappointed yesterday. Certainly think we looked a bit jaded, missed a few good opportunities, and didn't make the most of a lot of midfield possession and decent passing.
One characteristic missing - ruthlessness. Need to get a cross in at the earliest opportunity with 2/3 other players racing in to get on the end of it/pick up any scraps (see Lukaku's 2nd goal for Everton yesterday) |

It occurred to me that Edwards only had half a good game FA, and that prior to half time Terry kept him more than occupied and maybe came out well on top !..However in the second half when Terry failed to appear this Centre Back suddenly found himself with much more time to sweep up and nullify many of Stanley's forward movements which made him look much more successful !. Therefore in my opinion the non-emergence of our striker was perhaps the pivotal point in the team's lack of attacking thrust in the second period, and possibly denied us the point (s) which the team deserved !. As a footnote !.... Is Sean McConville really capable of playing up to current Football League standards ??... I'm not sure, and Alfred.E (who never really cared for him much anyway, says quite emphatically NO !!) ..so our jury is out !. |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Fair points Yonmon, thought Terry's movement was good until he was subject to a bad tackle and it seemed to effect the balance of the team.

So Sean McConville been chosen as this seasons scape goat as Crookys was last season, Joyce the season before?
That or some people haven't forgiven Sean for still paying off his monthly payments for the miss at Stevenage semi final in 2011!! Think most will agree this is the best team we've seen at the crown for some years, let's just get behind the team and club and I'm sure we'll come good! |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
got to agree baldy, best squad of players I've seen at acci, just need to keep playing the way we are and i am sure the results will come.
squads got a bit of everything and good competition all over the park. |

Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Decent highlights showing some good passing football from the yellow reds.
Good noise as well from the faithfull, what a shame we dont have the support of other clubs as we would turn most games into home matches if we did |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
Although Sean did put in a couple of decent crosses, he did seem to wander infield from the left side of the pitch.... left us vulnerable defensively (I can think of at least 3 separate occasions where Morecambe were able to advance unopposed up their right wing).
Maybe that's an issue with playing Barry, Coneeley and Crooks.... None of them really seem like players to move forward into the penalty area, meaning our more attacking minded midfielders drift in. Drop one of them for tomorrows game? |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
I would suggest leaving Barry out.
|
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
thought that myself cashy,if we went 4-3-3 , I would try pearson as the holding midfielder, with crookes and coonnelly given licence to get forward and bring bucko in at fullback.
with the squad theres so many options, but wouldn't panic, just need a few goals to kick start us would stick with 4-2-3-1 at the moment tho |

Re: Morecambe Match Thread
although we have our best squad for years we seem to have too many similar type of players. with this we cant seem to change the game. would still like a big lad to play upfront no not matt crooks but I always thought it was a good gamble to play him there. as for mc conville he was no worse than other midfield players and i.m not his no.1 fan. best person on the field was the ref.

Why do you think those players where made as scapegoats at those particular points in time?? They simply where not good enough ! Are we not allowed to even vent our frustrations anymore when a certain player is not performing?!? Look at Mingoia on Saturday, never stopped for the whole 90+ minutes and even ended up chasing back in defence at some point! No complaints by anyone on here ? As for Super Sean, he concentrates his efforts on arguing with opponents as well as the officials. But its fine, he lives at number 3 Coleman close! |
Re: Morecambe Match Thread
When you play a system like ours your always going to be wide open down the flanks to a fast counter attack because the system makes you narrow through the middle, this was the case with their goal Saturday quick counter 2 touches to Devitt who had all the time and space he needed guick cross goal 3 pts gone. I too think we could do with a big lad up front if we persist with 1 striker up the top can hopefully get 3pts tonight to stop a bad start and get the season going.
