local business starting to back us?

Company on the move is backing Accy (From Lancashire Telegraph)

This sounds like some really impressive work by someone. Keep up the good work back room staff :-)

Winning games bring the crowds. Even sponsors.

The most basic thing in football, people can look for a thousand other reasons and it still goes back to that :)

Very discriminating you are up in Accy. Down here win or lose doesn't make any difference to Pompey's home gate (OK this year they're winning but it's the first time for 5 years or more).

Re: local business starting to back us?

the thing is chimer pompey are different to Stanley. most fans down there can remember premier league and cup finals and do not start to build a new fan base. when I,ve been down there they seem a very positive bunch but up north we seem to be more glass half full. if the same thing had happened to a northern club they,d be scratching around on gates a quarter of pompeys. sunderland in div.2 would be really interesting.

Re: local business starting to back us?

Pompey fans are the salt of the earth but there are one or two differences that also come into play.
Population of Portsmouth = 205,000; Hyndburn (not Accy) = 81K.
Nearest league club to Portsmouth is Southampton @ 22 miles.
A few more clubs than that in the 20 miles from Accy to Manchester, and that's just in one direction.
Supporting Stanley is and always has been an exclusive past time.

Re: local business starting to back us?

All true, but that's still about 8% of Pompey's population and only just over 1% of Accy's.

They do still moan, though (especially when they can't beat us) :D

Do Portsmouth also pull from neighbouring towns like Fareham, Gosport and Havant with all the other smaller places within 5 or 10 miles?

Accy don't have that luxury with Burnley and Blackburn on our doorstep.
