If the article is accurate, the fact Joss recently turned down an extension aint good news at all. therefore the club mat have to let him go in Jan in order to gain brass.

Re: Josh Windass!

He was highly unlikely to sign a new deal anyway, Just a matter of if we can keep him until the summer now!

Maybe his agent has said he has turned down a deal and name dropped Arsenal to get more clubs looking at him and a good move in January/summer

Just hope Joshs head isn't turned in all of this!

There's probably a large element of truth in that, it's how they work

If and it,s a big if Arsenal or anybody else were to offer 1 million or even more whatever JC says I don,t think you could stand in the lad,s way, plus being debt free now what players could we get with a fraction of it, good luck to Josh if it happens if not he is still our player and we,ll get the best out of him in our push for promotion.

He's not quite famous yet then - not while "Dean's son" takes precedence over "Josh" for headline purposes :D

Best of luck to him though, stay or go.

if someone wants him and are prepared to pay good money he should be allowed to go with our best wishes in January. if we keep him after when he knows a deal is on the cards at the end of the season could lead to his performance dropping. we,ve seen it before.

Maybe possibly selling him in January with it in his deal that he is loaned back to us for the rest of the season!

Danny Webber is his agent!

Id like to think the club would have come out and said they had offered Josh a new deal if at all true!

if josh goes in January for the sake of argument a half a million pound undisclosed fee and coley is given half the amount for a replacement who could he sign who would play for us on our wage structure. its been said people don't come here for the money and to break this principle could lead to dressing room upsets. its a top young non league player who is hungry for a league career would be the best bet .

Agreed. Not as good as Windass when he's at his best, but there are other options in a similar no.10 role.

Matt Crooks would be far more difficult to replace within the current squad IMO.

Both Matt Crooks and Coley should take credit to Crooksy's current position.

Coley obviously saw something that most of us didn't when he persisted in playing him whilst on loan last season and made a priority of signing him in the Summer.

And to the lad himself. He's gone from being public enemy no. 1 to a cult hero in less than 12 months. I'm willing him to do well every time I see him play and given how his team mates react to him, I think he's a very important member of the squad and good to have around the place. He must be the first name on the team sheet every week. He's even managed to turn a Josh Windass string of posts into a Matt Crooks string of posts!

That's the guy I was thinking of when I posted the same sentiments / thoughts about Josh's value on another thread.....:o

I seriously hope that we are not gambling on getting a fair deal when the lad's contract expires in the summer.....tribunals are notorious for their ridiculous decisions when it comes to a players TRUE value......

What irks me...... is that as a club we are now seemingly playing the same brinksmanship game when it comes to player contracts.....i.e. potentially letting them get to the point where the contract runs out and then hoping that we can get a good deal.....or pick up replacements on the cheap / free.:(

Beattie broke that trend when he started awarding some longer contracts to players....now it seems we're going back to the same old scenario of potentially losing players for either nothing.....or next to nothing .....when their contracts run out !!:(

Other clubs try and tie down their most saleable assets on longer contracts before it gets to the point where we are at...... yet again ......with our more saleable assets.

Whilst I don't doubt that there may be efforts being undertaken behind the scenes to remedy this situation.....whilst we now say we are in a more stable position financially, I think we need to show a little more forward thinking when it comes to sorting out contracts.

I know we can't afford to pay silly wages and hand these longer term contracts around like we're handing out candy to kids.....but surely it would make sense to protect our interests when it comes to promising talent ?????

We most probably won't get anything near to true and proper values for players when their deals expire in the none too distant. :(

(

But when they sign those contracts in the first place are the club not taking a chance on them ? They aren't million pound players when they first sign, otherwise they wouldn't be signing. As the youth scheme in this country shows the potential of players at a young age rarely materialises. Many of them end up on the scrap heap. Like you said with the club on a more financial footing the club may take more of a chance on the odd one or two, but that can only happen going forward now, the current crop can only be asked and persuaded to sign again, that depends if they listen to those who have given them a chance or those who want to make money out of them :(

Re: Josh Windass!

He's been offered a new contract by Accrington and I have told him as his father to turn it down. His agent has said the same thing.

Josh loves it at Accrington and he loves the dressing room environment there, which is important for a player, but unless Accrington turn down an offer for him in January, which I cannot see them doing, then he will be moving on.

There will be a firm bid for him this week from a club and I'm sure more will be known soon.

so am I. a division 2 club cannot hope to keep young talent for ever. its about what we can get and what replacements can be obtained. hopefully the days have gone when players leave Stanley for peanuts. matt crookes will be next unfortunately but that's the way of things at our level.

Personally I think all this hype is already affecting his game. Against Newport, he looked out of sorts and not the dynamic player we know he can be. As for Dean Windass saying he needs game time, does he not realise that he gets that at Stanley, whereas if and when he moves on, he isn't going to be first choice and more than likely warming the bench.

Totally agree, but it's no coincidence there is no 'nancy-boy' Premier football around at the moment so the football me-jah are desperate for anything that passes for 'news'. It reminds of the 'news' taken word for word from estate agents' press releases that house prices are on the rise.

AccyMad 16-11-2015 16:12

Re: Josh Windass!

Personally I think Windass senior is out of order, his comments are so disrespectful to the club - Josh obviously enjoys being at Stanley & should be encouraged by his family to do that, I'm not naïve enough to not know that sometime Josh will probably move on to higher things & I'm sure the club wouldn't stand in his way but it has to be the right move at the right time for both parties & all the manouvering his dad is trying to do leaves a very bad taste - maybe he's trying to relive his own career through Josh? Certainly seems that way!

LongLostSon 16-11-2015 17:08

Re: Josh Windass!

Being exiled down south I haven't seen enough to judge whether the hype is justified just yet. However, if I were his Dad I might be thinking an out of contract Josh would perhaps increase his attraction to more clubs. Then again, what might be said to/overheard by a tripehound isn't guaranteed to be what appears in print. Coley knows the score and I admit to a quiet smile at his opening stance of 'nobody leaves January'.

it's been a pleasure to watch Josh but he will soon be 22 that gives him approx. 10 years of prime time left in the game and if he's good enough to play in higher leagues then I don't see why anyone would want to stand in his way

AccyMad 17-11-2015 08:45

Re: Josh Windass!

And no-one would stand in his way, Josh signing a renewal is not us trying to bind the lad to the club (although I'm sure most would love him to stay if possible), it's guaranteeing Stanley a fair & decent price for him if/when the offers start coming in - obviously his Dad can't see that would be the decent thing to do out of respect for Stanley giving Josh his chance in the football league

NewsNow: Loading story... Backwards step in my book and do rangers have the kinda money the pair would cost to buy ie £2/3million,better going to a championship team in my book but only if they let them help Stanley gain promotion.....

Sadly, I think it is inevitable the club will have to cash in and grab the money while it is there to be grabbed. Better that, than gamble on getting a "fair" deal from a tribunal.:(

I hope that when the club eventually negotiates the sale of these assets, they make sure that there are hefty sell on clauses of all sorts...... added on to the deals...... to make sure we ain't getting short changed for lads who I have no doubt will eventually play at the top level of the game.:o

Potentially, the loss of these two could de-rail our promotion drive...We have to weigh up potentially losing those two key players against keeping them and potentially getting promoted to League One....which is predominately Northern based with all the extra T.V money, gate receipts, prize money....etc, etc, etc

At the same time, I hope this scenario....predicament.....or whatever you wish to call it...... is an educational lesson. If some learning curve has to be observed, we don't allow this scenario to arise again in the future. If we do manage to unearth other gems in the future.....we have the foresight to offer them longer term contracts that mean we have more leverage when the bigger clubs come sniffing around.

Crewe Alex are a shining beacon in this particular sphere. Look how succesfull they have been!!!

We have a youth team that has already produced some decent players and promises some more bright young things in the future. We have a manager who, whilst I don't always agree with him, has an eye for a bargain and talent.

If the lads who are to be sold, fetch reasonable money and have the potential to raise more in the future (ala Brett Ormerod) then I'm sure we'll all be happy.....:o

But in MY opinion.....we've got to start securing our better prospects on longer deals and better terms....in order to get better deals...when the bigger clubs come to dine from our table...

One can only imagine the sort of transfer fees we'd be receiving for players like Josh Windass & Matt Crooks if their contracts weren't up in the coming summer.

Those sort of funds would truly secure the clubs future in terms of multiple years and not just the short term.....:(

Hopefully if we get promotion this year it may be an incentive for players like josh to stay with the club

its easier said than done as players seem to be loathed to sign longer contracts when clubs are sniffing around for them. the facts are that we are like everyother club in the 4th. tier of football a selling club. you cant hold onto players as I am sure everyone wants to play at a higher level and for the most money they can get. its not the case of greedy footballers as most of us have left jobs they like for promotion and more money. we and I,m sure coley is looking for possible replacements for any player who leaves as a drop in form in the new year would certainly see gates dropping as fans would show their disappointment. lets enjoy what we,ve got whilst we can and give anyone our best wishes in their future careers.

There was nearly a riot on here when Crooks signed an 18 month deal - just imagine if it had been a 5 year one

Just goes to show what we know................

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the most logical idea. Sell them with the condition they're loaned back to us for the rest of the season. The player's get game time insteadof being sat on the bench and we claim the maximum fee.

As a famous meerkat once said. Simples!!!!

That is one of the best post in a long time, everyone near on slated crooks when he was here first time around! And now the ones who slated him sing his praise! He is a quality player for Accrington and long may that continue

Let's just say. I've been unhappy when various Stanley players have missed a penalty or missed an open goal, or given a away a penalty, or made a mistake in defence resulting in a goal which leads to losing three points or resulting in a cup exit...... But! ..... I've never been happier when that awfull awfull player just goes and proves HE HAS THAT TALENT....NO NAMES NEEDED.... So let's just wish the current crop of players GOOD LUCK TOMORROW IN THE FA CUP! 😀😀😀

Just take the money and run ASFC..it may cost us a playoff spot, and to bad about my $5 @$15/1 to make the play offs, but our future as a viable entity would be assured for sometime.

True, & must admit I was gobsmacked when we signed him up but obviously I couldn't see the wood for the trees at that point. I think it showed a lot of character for Crooksy to want to come here knowing the stick he'd had first time round & that did make me start to warm to the lad & then when he started to play so well (once he was in right position),well the rest is history - love him & would be gutted if he left in January

how much would we gain by betting promotion. with a mostly northern division I could see gates regularly double what we get at the moment. this as got to be measured against what we,d get for a player in January or end of season tribunal. just because there is some undisclosed fee in the bank there is no guarantee it will be spent wisely or too our liking as fans.

well assuming a 1500 person hike at the gate
multiplied by 23 home games
multiplied by £15 per person
equals £517,500

if there's a million on offer I'd take it. No guarantee's of promotion either way so take what's available when it's available

that's a big if. I personally think we,d be very lucky to get that amount for both josh and matt. neither player is the finished article and both are still young and learning their trade. remember 12 months ago not many were happy to see either in the side. if both improve with us to the extent they have then the price would certainly go up . no point warming the bench at a championship club apart from the financial side to them. its certainly going to be an interesting few months in prospect at the crown.

Purely in 'Football Terms' I would rather that somehow we kept both of these lads so that we could continue to watch the superb passing, entertaining football that we have witnessed so far this season!.....
In my own dreamland of course!:joint::updown::bootyshak:indeplus::Peace::music8: :signbeer::Banane13:
