Wycombe Match Thread.
Big game tonight especially with Oxford beating Dagenham 4-0 last night we need 3 points to keep on Oxford,s coattails and the bigger one breath right down Plymouth's neck,s who just are maybe beginning to wobble need to get behind the lad,s from the kick off tonight and push them to the 3 points.

Re: Wycombe Match Thread.
Does anyone know anything about a 'friendly' that was due to be played at Sheeley (near Huddersfield) last night? The local paper gave the impression that it was mainly first teamers who would be playing but elsewhere I've seen that it was mainly U18s. Did anyone from the firsts get a run-out before tonight's match?

Re: Wycombe Match Thread.
To be honest, not only for the auto's but the playoffs too. A drop in form could soon see us out whereas 3 more points would continue to put some space below us! :)

Re: Wycombe Match Thread.
don,t expect a classic tonight as they seem to be better at defending than attacking looking at their record. a boring 1 nil to Stanley will do fine.

Re: Wycombe Match Thread.
Looking at the last 11 games we have to play, 2 are against Wycombe, 1 against Orient on Good Friday - the other 8 are against teams currently 12th or below.
We still have to play all the teams currently in the bottom 4 - these will be the one's that we will need to be winning - they will be scrapping for every point. 25 points out of 33 should crack the automatic spot. |

Re: Wycombe Match Thread.
Missed the two home matches last week as I was away on holiday. I managed to follow Dan's live text on the fishy site of the Plymouth match. It was so nerve wracking following the text and I went crackers when we got the two late goals!:theband:
It must have been absolutely brilliant for those of you actually at the match!!!:wave8: Tough match tonight especially without Crooks but as Coley says, the other lads have to step up!!:mosher: Come on all you STANLEY SUPPORTERS!:theband: We can once again be the EXTRA MAN which could make a difference.:s_gupjump:s_gupjump:s_gupjump LOUD AND PROUD FOR THE BOYS IN RED AND WHITE:theband: ON STANLEY ON:wave8::signbeer::drink: |

Re: Wycombe Match Thread.
Could be hard for us to get a second,I think Wycombe has only conceded 12 away goals prior to taday.

Re: Wycombe Match Thread.
A point earned for me and fair reflection of the game. Wycombe liked the long ball and physical hold up for runners up top. Wasn't much happening for either team 1st half (entertainment was Robbie savage getting Clayton end abuse) if anything Wycombe looked slightly more threatening till final few mins of half when scored. We came out second half and had a good spell of pressure unfortunately we couldn't fashion a goal. For there goal one of there forwards got the better of 3 of our defenders to play in the scorer. After this we created a couple of chances but they created more pressure around our goal. Piero gets my special mention tonight works tirelessly and along with billy creates alot of our best chances.

Re: Wycombe Match Thread.
Yes a point earned, but Wycombe's physical hold up was just that, physical. How Tierney (Ref) and his assistants missed all that I will never know. The nudge in the back of Billy Whizz and others, grabbing players round the chest and other areas of the body went unpunished. As for stats, according to BBC we had 68% possession, 6 shots with 4 on goal in the first half to Wycombe's 32%, 8 shot and not one on target. 2nd half Wycombe came into it a lot more, but I thought Stanley had the wherewithal to score a 2nd, not to be. So Daggers on Saturday is a must win game for me.

Some observers would say that the referee had a good game because he only booked two players, didn't give a lot of free kicks and tried to keep play going. For me his approach allowed Wycombe to play a 'spoiling' tactical game and they were clearly happy to take one point home once they had equalised! They certainly wasted time at every opportunity late on! Having said all that we still lacked the real penetration and killer instinct in front of goal which I think has been our one weakness all season. Billy Kee had another great game against difficult opponents but you could see how frustrated he looked after the final whistle because he had worked his socks off. Pierro once again played well and made life very difficult for Joe Jacobson, who I think is a tremendous player with a super left foot, and he also stopped Joe offering much going forward at which he is quite effective. Matt Pearson had another good game and was the model of commitment and determination. :mosher: We missed the physical stature and unpredictable creativity that Crooksy brings to our side tonight although :) Like Cashy hints at I think Coley could/should have done the double substitution a bit earlier and I fell that he should have brought on Rommy with the young lad Shaw which would have put Wycombe under a lot more pressure with their pace and energy in the closing stages. I couldn't see the purpose of bringing Procky on when he did, love him as much as we all do, as he didn't really do anything! It would have been a disaster to have lost tonight but a draw stops Wycombe gaining ground on us. Ten matches left and all to play for. An awful lot can happen in the closing stages of the season and Stanley need to keep battling on. It should be better when Windass and Winnard get fully fit as we seem to be getting a bit thin on the ground in certain areas of our squad at the moment. I really hope that Crooksy can bounce back quickly too as we missed him tonight! Keep the Faith.:theband: ON STANLEY ON:wave8: |

Re: Wycombe Match Thread.
Thought the result was a fair one.
We edged the first half and they the second. Wycombe play a typical second division style of game, long ball to a big centre forward and play off the second ball. Think the bobbley surface and wind was a factor and suited their game more. They set up 4-3-3 and made it difficult to play from the back and to be fair all their back four had electric pace which also made it difficult. Thought we may hold onto our lead, but a combination of us tiring and them bringing on another big, quick centre forward, turned the game for them. But it's another point and one of our rivals didn't gain any ground on us KTF |
Re: Wycombe Match Thread.
Just watched Coley's video interview on the fishy site and he concurs with my view on the referee far too often allowing the Wycombe players to run straight through our boys. He particularly commented about the treatment given out to Billy Kee and the lack of free kicks that should have been awarded to us. Coley seemed frustrated by that but also by Wycombe's largely 'Route 1' style.
In the Clayton End around me we all seem to go with Coley about wanting to play our passing game which we really enjoy watching :)and I too cannot understand those geezers in the main stand who seem to want us to play 'hoof ball'!:nono8: At the end of the match I was convinced that we had been awarded about 20+ free kicks on our players but was frustrated, when I checked the BBC Stats, that we only got similar to our opponents around the dozen mark! Really we should have had more protection from the referee from Wycombe's bullying tactics. A couple of bookings in the first half would have sorted this and made for a much better entertaining match. :dummy2::bangh8: John also made reference to our growing injury list and it shows now that he was right to strengthen the squad in mid season. Come on Stanley.... keep battling on! |
Re: Wycombe Match Thread.
I agree, thought Coley got it spot on - although I think Bill Turnbull who was sat behind me would disagree, I know he's a Wycombe fan but let's just say his commentary was a little on the biased side to say the least!
It's only a small minority of main standers (sitters?):) who feel the need to heckle for the hoofball tactics - i cringe at their comments sometimes but unfortunately don't sit near enough to treat 'em to the stony glare they deserve:rolleyes: |
Re: Wycombe Match Thread.
Have to say the ultras were great again last night, was good to see the large flags make an appearance, keep it up lads n get us oer the finishing line.:)

Re: Wycombe Match Thread.

I don't know why some bother to come. playing route 1 or hoofball might be ok if you have two 6foot 3lads up front but we haven,t. thought Wycombe did a job on us last night both tactically and physically. closed us down so we couldn,t play from the back like we like to do and forced us to go long at times. at least a point from a very forgettable game. |

Last night I actually heard the cry... 'keep it on't floor a bit !' from the usual suspects . and felt slightly elated at this strange mantra....but sad to say it wasn't long before the usual exhortation was heard !, plus a postscript which suggested that Coley doesn't know what he's doing !. I despair !... as does Alfred.E who thinks that Robbie Savage'has no right to demonstrate his obvious narcissism at The Crown !.. |
