Hartlepool match thread
I do hope that Coley abandons what appears to be his recent policy of bigging up our forthcoming opponents and managers in advance. It certainly came back to bite him big time on the butt today. All week he was praising Jimbo and Kenny in spite of a terrible run of results, with an open invitation to their team and supporters to put on a performance against us, which is exactly what happened! I know he is big mates with Jim but surely there is no need to give such comfort to the opposition in advance. Fair enough, I have no problem with giving credit after the event, but can you imagine Keith Curle, for example, showing any sympathy to us with his Carlisle squad before our games? Not a chance, quite the reverse in fact, and they never seem to lack motivation when taking us on, do they? Coley even had the nerve to complain about the Shrimps failing to compete with the Daggers recently in his post match today, as compared with their efforts against us!
Can't have it both ways, John. It almost makes me yearn for the old days when we were often reviled for our perceived ugly image, shall we call it? |
Re: Hartlepool match thread
agree, but we will get slagged off for having that opinion.:D

Re: Hartlepool match thread
Cashy......
We are used to being 'Slagged off' for just being a small club! ON STANLEY ON against the odds!!:s_tongue: |
Re: Hartlepool match thread
Cashy......
We are used to being 'Slagged off' for just being a small club! ON STANLEY ON against the odds!!:s_tongue: ps. Hartlepool are in good form at the moment and Tuesday is going to be a tough match. Coley and Jimmy will really have to get our boys "Up" for this one! I would of course prefer 3 points but a draw will be a good result IMHO.:egged: |
Re: Hartlepool match thread
I don't think it's fair to criticise Professor Coleman for extending simple courtesy to other teams and managers. There are no bad teams, or easy matches, and it could just as easily backfire if a manager is seen or heard to be disparaging about opponents.
Hartlepool, away, on a Tuesday night will be tough enough but the importance of the game to Stanley's entire season should be enough motivation for the players. |

the only passengers we need on Tuesday are fans on the supporters coach. need 11 battlers out there as it won,t be easy but winnable with the right tacticts and attitude.

Fair enough, guys, I hadn't picked up the significance of 'in advance'. (But it can't be easy. I do sometimes wonder just how the likes of Messrs Shankley, Busby, Stein, and Catterick would have got in had they been obliged to comment as often as modern-day managers.) |

Re: Hartlepool match thread
WOW , big team news. The prodigal son is FINALLY dropped !!! Replaced by Fosu :)
Buxton replaces Brown with Barry on the bench. |
Re: Hartlepool match thread
From Hartlepool's site:
Accrington Stanley: Etheridge, Pearson, Davies, Mingoia, Windass, Hughes, Conneely, Kee, Halliday, Fosu, Buxton Subs: Mooney, McConville, McCartan, Barry, Wakefield, Gornell, Boco |
Re: Hartlepool match thread
According to Dan on Twitter, Halliday is in Midfield with Buxton playing full back.
|
Re: Hartlepool match thread
That's fair enough, Sean had a pretty bad game on Saturday - still doesn't deserve such sarcasm & our own fans celebrating him bring dropped especially those who haven't even seen him play more than half a dozen times this season!

Quite why every comment you say on this forum is aimed at me is pretty sad to be honest. Well obviously as you have seen him play every single game this season, he deserves to start then !!! |
Re: Hartlepool match thread
Can we stop this petty keyboard warrior argument not every player is going to be every fans favourite, no player should be celebrated when subbed or booed, let's just enjoy the crazy Stanley train on the journey to league one
|
Re: Hartlepool match thread
Hope I am left eating humble pie, but not over joyed with that line up.... :(
I'll be back later and hope to be enjoying a very large piece :D :) :) :) |
Re: Hartlepool match thread
Excited to hear how Buxton plays, cracking player if he can stay fit!

Not gonna have any arguments on here, not worth the hassle especially when we're all supposed to be on the same side? Everyone's entitled to their opinion but in my own opinion slagging any of our players off is out of order specially at a time when they all need our full support. |
Re: Hartlepool match thread
I shall be parked up in some far corner of the 54 hectre orchard hiding so as I can follow this nerve wracking encounter on my phone. My location will be revealed to co workers by joyess yells or loud curses when a goal is scored. This is real squeeky bum time.

Re: Hartlepool match thread
Got credit Professor Coleman for making a couple of changes. This is the latest 'absolutely crucial' game and it's a courageous decision. Let's hope giving Mr.Halliday a new role, in front of fans he used to play for and in his back-yard, comes off.

Well done Stanley, lets hope for another 3 points on Saturday against York, plus I know they are all but down, we have the opportunity to confirm their relegation back to the conference. |
Re: Hartlepool match thread
I quite like York, purely for the fact its a great away day ha.
Roll on Saturday. Safe trip home to all those that travelled. |
Re: Hartlepool match thread
Fantastic result(s) for Stanley. Well done lads, management, and supporters!

Re: Hartlepool match thread
This is getting silly now, every obstacle put in the way of the team, coley seems to come up with answers, would have put Pearson in midfield before Halliday, but it's worked !!!,well done to everyone

We can relegate York on Saturday

Relegating another team is not the aim, it's getting promotion for Stanley. (Beware the Voodoo Gods of Football)

Re: Hartlepool match thread
As good an away performance as yeh can get imho. The starting line-up was certainly right. a fine goal from the captain, pool equalised through poor defending i thought, the goal wasn't bad, but the cross should NEVER have been made, was opportunities to put the tackle in,but never made. Fosu scored a good goal also, took it well, doubt if him who must not play many bad games would have converted it. it would not have been unfair on Hartlepool,if we had won 4 or 5-1 though, we need now to improve at home, suspect nerves are playing a part in that, after all we got many kids? Fosu seemed to tire second half i thought n it was good substitution, perhaps 10 mins sooner, but no matter 3 precious points gained and well deserved they were.:)

Re: Hartlepool match thread
what a game and what a result. formation was spot on and the first half we looked like the home side with some thrilling football. they changed it a bit at half time and got more possession but never really looked in danger. fosu was like a breath of fresh air on the left. I got my 11 battlers I wanted plus some of the seasons best football. only downside was the corners. until scott davies got a header in late on we never seemed to cause them any trouble whatsoever.

Re: Hartlepool match thread
Cheers CC, feel sorry for you guys at the minute - maybe your lads put so much into our game last week they just ran out of steam before last night??
If we do make it (& everything's crossed that we do) would be great for you lot to follow us up - wouldn't be the same without the Shrimps :) |

Re: Hartlepool match thread
MEGA comments guy!
I've been away on holiday out of range of T'internet. Got result on Tuesday from my daughter via mobile text and I nearly turned the caravan over in celebrating!!! (My mobile is ancient like me and doesn't do T'internet!) Just watched the videos, now... (Friday night), and just wished that I had been there! :alright: Having said that I must agree that the stick that a few have given to Sean Mac is out of order. Let's face it ....... in a team of superb players, playing well, if you ranked them in order of effectiveness someone would have to be be 'Number One' and someone would be ranked 'Eleventh' but it is likely that they would still be very good.......that's what makes a great 'TEAM' ....(or 'SQUAD'). We have had a selected 'Eleven' who have done so well all season, but it has not always been the same 'Eleven'. The 'Squad' has worked well with Coley and Jimmy trying to maintain continuity in their selection but having to cover injuries and suspensions, (thankfully not too many suspensions this season....a possiible factor in our success?) They got it just right on Tuesday with the energetic Halliday selected in midfield and the combative Buxton coming in at left back........Spot on IMHO against opponents with recent good form and confidence.....Reflected in the performance and the result! It was great to see on the fans video the joy of both players and supporters United in celebrating a great victory!:theband: ON STANLEY ON!:s_gupjump:s_gupjump:s_gupjump |
