Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Have a good afternoon you guys. It's been a fantastic season, even from a far. I'd really want to thank all those that make the extra effort for the club that make it that bit much more special for people like me that don't get near the ground. It's been enjoyable and sometime dramatic, but I can only dream of what it's been like at the ground and on the road. Love Stanley. Love Coley and Bell; and Mr. Holt, your an absolute godsend. Thank you.

1-0 Oxford. No chance that Brizzle will not score. We need one! And it won't come from Fosu. Very poor!

Lap of honour they don't deserve any honour after that performance
|
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
First half we where nervy and it was tense with not many chances either way. last 30mins with the help of some positive substitutions we turned the screw and on another day one of the 3 crossbars strikes goes in. Stevenage where happy with draw. Extremely Gutted but on the bright side we may get to see accy at Wembley. Windass again for me looked are most threating player. Record crown ground attendance too

Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Gutted,and my fears came true.
The pitch from the off was hard and bobbly and the game became a closing down/long ball game with suited them. We tried, but it just didn't suit our style and all the memories of the last play off game came back. Positives, clean sheet and were in the playoffs and hopefully we can use today's experience to our advantage |

Que sera sera...

Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Not good at all

Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Unlucky guys. Concentrate on the play-offs now. Plenty of support for you in this neck of the woods.
Accrington Stanley. | blue-and-amber |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
gutted.
i felt first half they didnt show any urgency at all. 2nd half was better - i thought fosu should've stayed on - we needed the win - keep the striker on. he was getting into the game much more then. great atmosphere - much respect to the fans for being behind the team. wembley beckons |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Gutted i am for you all. Pre season, you were relegation favourites along with County so congratulations. All the best for the play-offs.
|
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Absolutely gutted. I feel like they didn't try much in the first half.
I guess now we rally behind the team for the playoffs. |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Gutted that we couldn't beat such a poor team on the day and then to be pipped by Bristol in Fergy time. Still in playoffs but sooo gutted and now hate Stevenage even more
|
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
That was one poor performance! Ok we hit the crossbar a few times but apart from the belter that rattled it the rest were powder puff taps against it! The ball didn't land for us and yes the pitch played a part in that but was that team actually up for this game?!:(
|
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Good season but very poor last game given the circumstances. I can only remember 1 shot on target from Fosu and he was dragged off soon after.
Get a bit crowd then ensure they don't come back with a poor display and insanitary toilet conditions. The performance can just about be forgiven, the poor treatment of fans is inexcusable. I expect the play off 2nd leg crowd will suffer, |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Well im hurting, but its NOT over.
Was anyone surprised when they started cheering when Bristol Rovers scored??? I know I wasn't. Just about sums them up really. As for the game itself, as others have said, we wern't good enough for 60+ minutes, simple. Pitch seemed rock hard as coley said...... Surely it should have been watered even more??? Anyway, its not over. Roll on Wimbledon next weekend. |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Don't think anyone can call the lads for effort.
The occasion(and conditions, if you are being generous) got to them and they didn't play their best. They spent the first half an hour seemingly playing as individuals trying to win the game themselves. Much better in the second half but alas no joy. Understandable behavior and I for one don't hold it against them. Think it was a case of wanting it too much rather than not enough. |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
the results today conspired against us, I feel gutted for the players, the art of keeping the ball on the ground & quick passing moves that have been so evident in Stanley's performances this season were sadly missing, the introduction of Scot Brown saw our chances improve and we were unlucky not to achieve a wining result in the final stages, hope the lads can see us through to Wembley and as long as we don't get Trevor Kettle there is hope for us yet
|
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
For my twopenneth, totally gutted, but we must remember what the team has done over the course of the season and as such, it is NOT over yet. Let's hope we get to Wembley after playing a very good Wimbledon team. After that, it is a one off game against either of the south coast teams, whatever happens, we have got to beat two more teams over 3 games.
|
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Still got a good chance to right the wrongs but you can't underestimate the influence the pitch had.
When you see the ball bouncing everywhere Messi would have struggled. It stopped us playing from the back, our widemen struggled to carry it,it wasn't pretty to watch. Just started raining here,12 hours too late :( |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
[QUOTEas long as we don't get Trevor Kettle QUOTE]
Bit ironic that at each corner, the advertising hoardings state.... ''Kettles boiling'' !!!! If only!! |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
It's fair to say Stevenage played well, their positional play defensively was brilliant.
Our central midfield simply didn't turn up, we missed crooks. I was more disappointed with the first half display the amount of times we rushed out play and hit direct hopeful balls instead of the measured clever possession play that has served us well all season. Billy kee didn't have his best game either, but there is no denying Stevenage deserved a point. |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Not good enough on the day, Stanley had to win to be certain of finishing 2nd, it was odds on that both Bristol and Oxford were favourites to win, so Stanley had to win, a 0-0 draw was useless. I managed to stream the game and I don't know the players as well as most of you do but there were some lack luster performances by too many. A once in a lifetime opportunity and not to give everything your body has to offer is, I'd like to say poor but I think I'll say crap. Let's see which team shows up for the play offs, see who really wants first div. football. Fingers crossed.

5 hours on and I'm off for counselling appointment. :(
|
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Gutted :( Fcuk it
Right thats out of my system, let go up at Wembley :D |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
We missed some good chances today and if they had gone in we'd all be celebrating now, that's football. I had to leave at the end I was that gutted with the result but like it's been said before **** it.
Come on you Reds !!! |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
What a day! It was like a vision of the future when I arrived at the top of the Crown steps at 1..45 pm with the Fanzone in full swing and the surroundings transformed from the rubbish tip it was so very recently. To see the stadium full and in great voice was inspiring. Pity about the game but let's hope the chance of making it into the promised land is still within our grasp. Shook hands with a downcast Willie Millar on the way out, but he has no need to be,as getting him back into the fold promises a return to the great days when he was King of the Clayton End. Even Mrs Red was impressed with the noise and spectacle, even if she didn't actually stay for the match!
|
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
1st half our midfield was non existent, browny come on an we started to play football and we battered them, a few lads got overawed with the occasion today and we stuttered against a team we would be any other day!!

It was a disappointing performance in the first half but the second half made up for it , sadly it hadn't to be. Let us now concentrate on the play offs , stay behind the lads and keep cheering.

Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Gutted yesterday but today I feel positive I,he been watching football and Stanley for a long while and yesterday was just we did,it turn up but if anybody had said playoffs when we kicked of this season we would all have snapped their hands off, all to play for and hopefully 3 games to go, on another note does anybody know what the ground capacity actually is it,s supposed to be 5057 so why were we not nearer to that if it was a sellout.
|

Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
In answer to your ground capacity question andyd, I suspect those that bought tickets or even season ticket holders, did not turn up on the day. I certainly knew of one ticket for sale (at face value) outside the ground prior to kick off. The other point is that the Home section was sold out, but only 171 (I think) Stevenage fans made the trip.
|
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Surprisingly don't feel too down about yesterday.
There have been so many positives from the last 12 months - great football, increasing attendance, new ownership, plans for redevelopment, actual work taking place at the ground already making improvement.... The list goes on. Can't wait for playoffs. Everyone knows what this team is capable of. It feels like we are in a much stronger position than the last time we got a chance at them. |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Luck had nothing to do with it! Stanley may have had a fine season, but this Saturday they deserved absolutely nothing! You cannot play a goalless draw with two shots on goal in a game you have to win. Bristol Rovers knew they had to win and finished 16 times on goal according to BBC.
It seems to me that the management does not realise that there is 3 points for a win in this League. Stanley were protecting a point that was of no value to them for far too long. Once Oxford had scored, the only way was forward. Because if Rovers didn't win Stanley would be up even if they lost by five. And how great a risk was that against a Stevenage side with no belief in their own game? Only after Rovers late goal was there any real urgency, and even those minutes were a gift because Rovers game was early. I think Stanley would be up had Oxford and Rovers scored a couple early. Then Stanley would have realised sooner that they needed to score. And Stevenage were poor enough to succumb if there had been some urgency. But why Stanley would need their opponents to tell them that is beyond me. |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Is this a wind up ?,Stevenage were never going to roll over, they were unbeaten in 8 including draws with Bristol and Wimbledon.
They were excellent defensively, well organised and worked had. People say we played better in the second half, but their centre back(who was very good) went off at half time. Noticed Glenn Roeder in their ranks, maybe he's got them organised I don't know, but they contested every ball all game. |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
If it's not a wind up F19 it's an insult to our lads who have worked so hard this season & at times have run through bricks walls to get a result!
Would have expected a few knee jerk reactions like this straight after the game & of course everyone's entitled to their opinion but to still be spouting it the day after when we've had a bit of time to get over the initial shock beggars belief |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Of course, Stevenage could defend, but they had absolutely no belief in their offensive game. Going forward a bit more could never have hurt Stanley, especially as an unlikely Stevenage goal did not matter.
If you are happy with the approach it is your prerogative. But I stick with my opinion. A team as Cautious as Stanley cannot reserve more than nil. |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Hull City apart, the big occasion Home matches have a tendency to disappoint and it being Stevenage too. So I had no confidence of the automatics when Wycombe wasn't enough to secure them.
|
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
We're all gutted but as fans we can't do anything about it.
So what a great piece on the Fishy site from Pierro. That's the right attitude to take instead of being another all-knowing "Monday-morning quarter-back". As for Wimbledon away, to paraphrase Alf Ramsay from 50 years ago, "We've beaten them once, so let's get out there and beat them again". |

First not scored at home all season... Finished the game with 3 at the back... You're being daft. |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Sam F,
Glad you are happy with the performance. I am certainly daft, because I do not understand why the activities in this match cannot be poor because they scored in other weeks. I thought it was the score on the day that mattered. I thought the thread was about this game. But of course I bow to your superior knowledge and intelligence. I will continue to wear my Stanley shirt with pride among all the (English) supporters clad in Barcelona's and Real shirts. And I will hope against hope that I am wrong about the play-off prospects. But I will NEVER accept that this was a good performance. If that makes me daft, so be it. |

I was alluding to the fact that, were it not for a certain kitchen appliance masquerading as a referee, it would have been an away win. |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
:D Ok
|
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Dissapointed yesterday but if there was one team in this division that would spoil the Stanley party it was gonna be Stevenage, anyway 24 hours on and a bit of reflection what a season we have had, an amazing squad, 85 points on the board, scored in all but one home match, finished fourth in a very tough league and the club under new ownership of a man who is prepared to put his money where his mouth is to move the biggest little football club in the world onwards. Whether we get promotion through the play offs or not remains to be seen but if it,s not to be well so be it and we go again in August............BELIEVE

Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
Saturday afternoon was the worst experience in my whole life!
I cannot get past it yet! |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
I think some of us thought we had a divine right to claim that 2nd spot after we'd held it for a few weeks, but as Coley pointed out on several occasions, there would be twists and turns going into the final day of the season. A lot of fans thought we were already up, granted they might have been those who turned up for the day and not the whole season. Now we have to put in one of those away performances that got us into that automatic spot in the first place. Let's beat Wimbledon with a late winner. Then not think we're already at Wembley, before the start of the second leg!

The service started spot on the scheduled 1pm at which Laura and I were extremely relieved. We were out just before 2 pm and drove straight back to The Wham Stadium, :do-one:(within the speed limits...just), changing into our Stanley supporters garb once we had parked up at a friend of Laura's house close to the ground. We got onto the packed Clayton End at 2.55 pm! We even managed to edge our way more or less to our 'Normal Spot'. :alc: I managed to lean forward and spotted you in your seat. Really pleased that you managed to make it on Mike. Totally and utterly gutted after the match and I had a sad drive back to Ilkley for the wedding celebrations which cheered me up by about 1%. :(Sunday was terrible and I just couldn't look at the newspapers or TV all day. :thumbsdowCame home from Ilkley, which is a lovely town, and finally plucked up courage to watch Coley's post match video before bedtime last night. Gutted just does not describe Coley's mood on the video but then I read Pierro's interview on The Fishy site and went to bed slightly more heartened. Pierro's positive attitude is remarkable and truly uplifting.:theband: The match........best forgotten now.....:enough: The only way is forward into the Play Offs! Now we can look forward to Wimbledon and no further....ONE MATCH AT A TIME!:jimbo: I am going for our tickets at lunch time and urge ALL STANLEY FANS to do the same today for Season Ticket Holders and tomorrow onwards for general ticket sales. Let's have a repeat of the commitment we showed at Wycombe. We have all read about what the support means to the players and staff.....:theband::s_gupjump:s_gupjump SO COME ON ONE AND ALL UP FOR THE STANLEY:theband: We always seem to want to take the hard road....but that will make it all the more satisfying when we do it! ON STANLEY ON:theband: KEEP THE FAITH :wave8::signbeer: and BELIEVE!!!!:mosher: |
Re: The official Stevenage game thread.
As for the hard road ..anyone fancy a couple of penalty shootouts on top.. Accy Victoira Hospital 500 yards up the road might get busy...No ones fault on Saturday.Bouncy Pitch and a strong Breeze that turned every pass and corners into an overhit spoiled any decent play.so no player should feel it was a bad performance...The show must go on...
