Womble advise
If you've not been to KM before and (a) have a terrace ticket (b) under six foot, get to the front, sightlines are crap.
|
Re: Womble advise
Cheers for that - I qualify on both counts (a) - way under 6 foot!! and (b) - best take a box to stand on :)

Re: Womble advise
Also if your up for a libation before the game, no decent pubs close by, I suspect our bars will be open to all (we don't bite unless your franchise fc), nearest pubs Kingston or New Malden 20+ mins walk or 5 mins on the 131 bus.

Re: Womble advise
Any advice on car parking?
|
Re: Womble advise
Here you go :) DIRECTIONS AND CAR PARKING
From Outside London: M25 Junction 10, take the A3 northbound into London. At the exit for New Malden/Worcester Park, turn off and take the left into Malden Road (A2043) towards Kingston. Follow this to the next roundabout. Take the first exit into Kingston Road (A2043 still) and Kingsmeadow is one mile on the left. From Central London: Take the A3 out of London, exiting at New Malden/Worcester Park. Cross over the A3, and take the Malden Road (A2043) towards Kingston. Follow this to the next roundabout. Take the first exit into Kingston Road (A2043 still) and Kingsmeadow is one mile on the left. There is limited parking available at the ground and, for Saturday games, to be sure of a space you need to arrive before 1.45 pm (7pm midweek games) at the latest. Parking in adjacent streets can be tight as it is a residential area. |
Re: Womble advise
As per the advisory, get to the carpark by mid afternoon at the latest or you may find it closed. You will find a space in a side road eventually but remember it is the burbs and residents get seriously pi**ed off if you park over their driveway.

Re: Womble advise
Nearest tube or train station to the ground?
|
Re: Womble advise
Think it's Norbiton - try looking it up on Football Ground Guide, it's pretty good for info on there both for driving & going by train
|
Re: Womble advise
Norbiton closest (overland from Waterloo/Clapham Jn)
Football League Ground Guide - AFC Wimbledon - Cherry Red Records Stadium, Kingsmeadow |
Re: Womble advise
If going straight to the ground Norbiton is a 10 minute walk, nothing on the way apart from fat boys cafe and a chippy. Kingston if you have some time to kill or fancy a libation or 3.
|
Re: Womble advise
Nothing but 'Fatboys Cafe'!! What more do you need? Worth the trip on its own.
|
Re: Womble advise
Trains run from Waterloo to Norbiton at 12 - 27 - 42 - 57 minutes past the hour taking 25 minutes also slow trains taking 43 mins at 03 and 33 past.
the 18:42 (arr Norbiton 19:07) would be the last to get you there for kick off as it's a 19:30 k/O trains back from Norbiton at 35 - 50 - 05 - 20 past the hour Bus Route 131 Kingston - Tooting runs past the ground. Supposed to be every 12 minutes but gets held up by traffic Most of the pubs near to the ground have closed down - nearest are in Kingston Town centre 20 min (or 5 ish mins on 131) away Willoughby Arms, Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey, KT2 6LN - pub details# beerintheevening.com The Willoughby Arms (link above) is an old school backstreet boozer selling decent ales and is about 20 minute walk to the ground. Woodys is by the river a bit 'upmarket' and about 25 minute walk to the ground Woody's, Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey, KT1 1HH - pub details# beerintheevening.com nearest Tube Station is probably Richmond but is probably a nicer place for pubs - takes about 20 odd minutes from Richmond to Kingston on the 65 bus. |
Re: Womble advise
Quick update, the athletics centre next door have a Surrey meet on tomorrow, so parking will be even more problematic. You have been warned.
|
Re: Womble advise
Thanks for the heads- up, Driz, just what's needed.
I presume the Athletics' wallahs, reasonably, booked their do ages ago to coincide with the end of the football season. It's too late to change our travel plans now but I just hope it doesn't end in chaos. If it does, it can only be down to the organising cretins at the League who, by choosing the same date and location as Surrey Athletics have, yet again, made in abundantly clear that the needs of Sky comes before those of fans. |
Re: Womble advise
Hardly the league's,fault, they can't predict who will come 7th
|
Re: Womble advise
Think Exile was meaning that the League could've chosen an alternative date for the fixture but have their hands tied due to the game being on Sky?
|
Re: Womble advise
Exackerly!
|
Re: Womble advise
It was a 50/50 game changed by the introduction of the beast and our youth prodigy Tom Beere, we loaned him to Hampton and Richmond and he helped them back to the conference. If our defence holds up on Wednesday who knows, I won't tempt the gods anymore.
See you in the Crown on Wednesday Cmon you dons. |
Re: Womble advise
The atmosphere before the game & the friendliness of your fans was brilliant - didn't spot the hog roast that was apparently available but no matter :) a drink in the sunshine in the party atmosphere more than made up for it. Stewards outside were friendly - one lady even had a go on our drum :)
Then into the game - hmmmmm? I know we'd been warned about the terrace but really wasn't expecting it to be so bad, herded into a tiny corner like sheep & even those at the front had very limited views of the game, it was so frustrating not to be able to follow the match properly - if I go again think I'd pay the extra for a seat, at least then I'd be able to see what was happening. I believe we've allocated the usual away space on the Coppice terrace to Wimbledon on Wednesday, it would have been nice to have the same courtesy at Kingsmeadow - it might be open to the elements but at least they'll be able to watch the game properly. |
Re: Womble advise
I second the above . I too did not see much of the game , in fact I could only see the penalty area directly in front of me. I asked a steward if I could watch over the wall , he pointed out it was for " small kids" I pointed out they were taller than me , it made no difference. When asked if we could pay the extra for the seats again was told no .The first half was dominated with Stanley , it had to be I hardly saw any of the game. I looked forward to the second half then I would be able to see more......wrong Wimbledon dominated this half , again, I couldn't see. I know we were for warned but blimey I felt like I was in a pen. Shame we wont be doing the same to them , but then we are a friendly club.

Re: Womble advise
To be fair most of our own fans along the side terrace experience the same viewing problems.

Re: Womble advise
Sorry again for the sightlines, unfortunatly we are stuck with Km until New Plough Lane is built, any improvement to the terrace requires planning approval.
As for the squeezing we tried to maximise the oppurtunity for fans to see the match which meant everybody suffered. Km is not a pleasant place for anybody when full, which is why I now don't go to home games. |
