Whilst i regarded Dino as our best Stopper, no doubt at all, Piero will be a much bigger miss i reckon, much harder to replace.

Piero going. Knew it was on the cards, but doesn't make the pill any less easier to swallow. Good luck to the lad at Cambridge United, but can't help feeling even that may be too far out from London for him. Like others, quite surprised he did not get a move to a league 1 club at the very least. Thanks for the memories Piero, you WILL be missed.

Not so sure about that. We have a young kid called Braydon Shaw who can and possibly do a decent job in Piero's position. That is, of course, he signs on the dotted line for next season, which, from what I have heard from his family, he is being encouraged to do so. Watch this space :theband:

Please correct me if im wrong, but i believe it is players Under 24 and with Piero being 24 nearly 25 he is to old.

In the latter case, training compensation shall be payable until the end of the season in which the player reaches the age of 23.

Seem's like he's too old :(

Good luck and thanks, Pierro, for some brilliant performances and goals.
I was staggered no other club snapped him up after last season so we were the lucky ones to have him for the past campaign.
As others have said, a real gent from a lovely family.

Although we all expected Piero to go I too am disappointed he went to Cambridge, He is better than that, Andy Holt has said there could be some exciting signings to be announced over the next month. I hope so as we won't replace Piero that easy. I don't think rebuilding a team with so many new players is an easy task. I await to see who does sign and from where.

Fully understand where Piero is coming from and truly wish him well for the future, but he better than that , but he has his reasons and good luck to him. However as a Stanley fan I feel our players are leaving on the rebound of disappointment from missing out on promotion to League 1 .
With Andy Holt at the helm we are going places , so next season should be as good if not better.

I fully agree with your comments Div3North.

Pierro was a class player for us and he always gave everything whether we were playing well or poorly! Yes, his sincere message on the Fishy site is a reflection of what a good lad he is.:bow8:
I do agree though with other posters that he surely could have got a contract with a Division One club.

If you read this Pierro.......
Good luck to you and keep up the great progress that you have made so far in what will surely be a wonderful career in football.
Pierro, you are the sort of sporting character who should be presented as a role model for our younger generation........Totally honest in his work....Gives absolutely everything for his team.......A great family man too.......Such a good example.
:mosher:
Thanks for the memories Pierro. Your 'Screamer' against Wimbledon will live in my memory for ever!:theband::thumbsup:

If I was a manager in Div One or Two he would be my first target to sign up for my team.

Not that enthusiastic about them myself - at least all your news at the minute is of incoming players, not being funny but I'm unsure how they're being persuaded to come when your future ownership is still not sorted?
Hope they're not being sold a Stockport scenario cos we all know how that ended

Sorry but the stats don't agree with you.

There's been 9 football league seasons that we have both been in this division.

The team achieving the highest position over the other goes to Morecambe by 5 seasons to 4.

Morecambe have never been in a relegation scrap i.e always been mathematically safe at least 2 weeks before the final fixtures.

So if your so good, with a nearly new ground, and a new owner waiting in the wings and a well supported manager, why are you struggling to get fans through the turnstiles?........ (by the way, relegation scraps don't always start two weeks before the end of the season.......)

Don't start talking about 'struggling to get fans through the turnstiles' without taking a close look at your gates.

Let's face it we BOTH struggle and it's an achievement just to not be relegated for BOTH clubs.

What would you say if the leagues where restructured so that it became more of a North / South divide? it would certainly save on travel etc which is the major drain on clubs finances other than players and management teams.

I'd have no problem in seeing Chester, Wrexham, Tranmere and Stockport back in the fold .....:alright:

I personally would welcome a div.2 north and div.2 south as long as you can still play 46 games in a season. old enough to remember 3rd. division north and going to more away games then and that was bus or train. when regional football finished in the late 50,s it was exciting for a few seasons playing new sides but gates fell after the novelty wore off. its not nostalga but would rather see Halifax away than crawley away. gates and divorces would go up as we,d probably spend more time watching our clubs whoever they are.

maccawozzagod 05-06-2016 11:41

Re: Summer Signings!

I'd obviously rather play Halifax than Stevenage, but its not part of national football anymore if you create the divide.

If a regional split was to occur then I'd rather it was part of a nationwide overhaul of the entire game.
PL ... 18 teams
CH ... 18 teams
D1N ... 18 teams / D1S ...18 teams
D2N ... 18 team / D2S ... 18 teams

34 games per season, league matches played only on weekends, cup matches/friendlies under the lights.

Fewer games to play isnt good, but decreased travel and larger attendances should offset that. Any clubs knocked out of the cups would know that they can arrange friendlies to get the bar takings in etc.

I'd still not be happy at a split if I'm honest but the longer the financial split is allowed to go on, the more I think it would be essential.

agree with the 18 team prem. and championship due to gaps for the so called international breaks plus they will last longer in the cup competitions. cannot see why the regionalised leagues cannot keep 24 clubs in each division as come November a lot of clubs like Stanley have only the league to concentrate on. just my personal opinion and I,m sure others will disagree.

Billy was thinking about giving up football last summer so for him to sign a new 2 year deal shows how much he's enjoying his football again...Worst case senario they have to pay a fortune for him because there is no chance Coley and Andy Holt will let him go cheap!

Our best 2 players have left (Crooks and Mingola), so im happy for anyone else to leave if its in the clubs interest (financially or to free up space in the squad).

People need to remember coleman is a genius when it comes to unearthing future stars, we will be fine.

a certain ex star player who's first name rhymes with barry and surname rhymes with loberts is wanting to move back up north.

Isn't he contracted with Portsmouth? No way we could match his wages!

Very much doubt we could afford him but would certainly make up a bit for losing Piero if (big IF) it happened

been a damn good player no doubt at all, from what ive seen this season though, seems a bit past his sell by. not worth the cost to me.

Re: Summer Signings!

More chance of him signing for someone like Fleetwood to link up with his pal Jimmy Ryan!

Any news on the pie front?

Would make more sense if Gary turned up at Fleetwood - & it would only be coincidence that he wants to move back up north just as they're about to get their windfall from the Vardy transfer - cynical, moi??

Yeah, saw that earlier - can only hope, wouldn't be the first time Coley & Jimmy have signed someone while on their holidays - Jimmy Ryan & a beach in Cuba springs to mind :) Would love Tom back in the fold, fingers crossed

Anyone starting to think this may now be true?

1 done, 1 rumored and Buxton to be completed once back from Thailand.

who's a clever boy...Stanley get to the play-offs then lose all their uncontracted best players?

Buxton did say it was only rumour that he had signed for Tranmere. I hope he hasn't But we do need to start hearing some positive news sooner than later.

Think Bucko was offered a great deal at tranmere but can't see him dropping into the conference.
Don't think we've seen the best of him yet.

Would Buxton be treated like McConville if he drops into non league for better money? Hmm

Come off it, Baldy! 95% of Sean's critics this season have been let down by his play. Nothing to do with money. Not his fault either as the lad tries his best. For myself, I would never challenge any player's right to get maximum financial reward for his prowess, even if it means dropping down a couple of divisions, or more, even.

Re: Summer Signings!

I totally understand what your saying Redraine.
If you look on my first post (post7),of his original thread, five years ago!,I still stand by this.
He's not a winger and not a centre forward, for me his best position is behind/off the front man, were clever footballers shine most.
He's not lightening and certainly not strong, but since he's returned, there's better players in that role (windass etc).
He's an intelligent footballer, but played out of position for the sake of the team, but the divided opinion suggests it's done no favours !!!
