2015/16 Prediction League; Playoff Shootout 2 v Wombles (home)

Oh boogar!

What is it about us and the 92nd minute? First Brizzle, then the Wombles? And how’s Billy Whizz’s head? Didn’t look too good .......... And why – miracle saves apart – can’t we score goals any more? No-one got any bonus points, fairly obviously, from Shootout 1 ................ and now we’ve got to score ..... and then we’ve got to win, even if by the Dreaded Penalty Dog’s Dinner ........... repeat after me; If I take a penalty, I will not put it past the post, too near the GK, miles over the bar, and – most of all – I will not be a clever clogs and try to dink the keeper (which is probably illegal in public anyway).

And there are the new extra bonus points opportunities for you for this game; one point for each of the first five Stanley penalty takers you can identify (before kick-off, natch ...), and ten points if you correctly identify any who go on to miss their penalties (but 5 points lost if you name a “misser” who scores). For the PL Shootout Competition, it’s only the score after 90 mins (or 120 minutes if 90 mins is all square) that counts – the extra points are a tie-breaker.

So – AFC Fylde and Ebbsfleet (“Buy the Club, Pick the Team, Flying Pigs”) missed out on promotion to the Conference Premier; Solihull Moors, Sutton Utd, Maidstone and North Ferriby (who?) .............. get the satnavs out, any Tranmere or Torquay fans who fancy an Awayday!

Everything comes down to a one-game shootout, then; and – if we win that – to another one; I was thinking that if we get through I’d personally want Plymouth, who I think we could beat, rather than Pompey, who seem to have the Evil Eye over us this season (mind you, with a record of P3 W0 D1 L2, you could say the same thing about the residents of KT1), so the Pilgrims’ 91st minute winner tonight is – I think, anyway – perhaps good news.

And there we are; I’m off to pick the team (and I’ll no doubt do a better job than the Manager, as we all will), sort out the subs bench, and decide the tactics; my tactics are amazingly simple – altogether now, “We’re Going To Score One More Than You, Nah Nah Naah, Nah Nah Naah .......”

Come on lads – you can do this; we’ve had our little blip, and the Wham pitch looks much better than that over-grassed lumpy cow patch from Saturday .................

Deadline, as you all know by now, is scheduled kick-off time, which is 7.45pm on Wednesday 18th May (we don’t do Wednesdays, we do Tuesdays) ....... and if we score two and they score nowt, or if all our pens go in and not all theirs do, and if Tom keeps his bloody hands down in the penalty area, and if Martians kidnap You Fat Bastard, we should have Our Day Out; only three sides have never played at Wembley ..............Could we please make that two?

Good luck to everyone! ................. Keep the Faith! ................. And thanks for playing!

Oh - and by the way Boss (Mr Chimer Sir), I've considered your tactics board; however, we're setting up like this

:hidewall::hidewall::hidewall::hidewall::hidewall: :hidewall::hidewall::hidewall::hidewall::hidewall: :hidewall:

but only when we're two goals up! :p:p:p

2 -1 to Stanley & victory for the boys in red after a penalty shootout following an excruciating goalless half hour of extra time . . . . . . then lots of beer! :)

If Billy Whizz is fit after the head injury and Bucko and Josh have their shooting boots on and if Tariqe starts instead of you know who, we could and should win, but only 2-1.

Kee, Windass (miss), Mingoia, Gornell, McCartan.

Nobody else want bonus points?

Re: 2015/16 Prediction League Shootout; Game 2 v Wimbledon AFC (home)

BBC recite more facts than I do ............ and I don't care for the last one!

Accrington have won four of their previous five home games against the Dons in the Football League (L1).

Wimbledon's solitary league victory away to Accrington came back in October, after the Dons triumphed in a seven goal thriller (4-3).

Stanley are unbeaten in their last seven league games at home (W3 D4), with clean sheets in each of the last two.

The Dons have kept clean sheets in their last two league away games and are unbeaten in their last four league away trips (W3 D1).

Accrington have now lost all three of their Football League play-off games, conceding four times and failing to score in all three.

Re: 2015/16 Prediction League Shootout; Game 2 v Wimbledon AFC (home)

Unlike The Wombles, AccyTom Holds On Without Scoring (Or Fouling)

"To Travel Hopefully Is Better Than To Arrive" and the League 2 travelling goes on next season, hopefully it'll be better .....

Or as Gene Pitney almost sang,

"We were only ...
22 minutes from Wembley ...
Only ....
A clean sheet away from a dream"
:hidewall:

You don't really expect me to be funny so soon after the lights went out on our hopes, surely? :( But in case anybody gives a damn ....

No outright pessimists this time, but Monkey Hanger and Kiwi John went and sat on the fence  (which effectively comes to much the same thing) so took 3 points as the Beast pretty much fulfilled the Boss' worst nightmare . The rest of us went looking for the win we needed :), with 2-0 the favourite score, so quite a few got a BP for our 2, and Stevie R got one for their 2, but none for the 3 he predicted for us. AccyTom18, sitting on a single point lead following his max 5 from the away leg, scored nowt this time, but as the only others with more than a point brought forward (Football19 on 4 and Red-Osbornello on 3) didn't make the bench for this game ,

:jimbo:Tom takes the non-existent prize with 5 points from the 2 games.:jimbo:

Kiwi and F19 share second place with 4, Monkey and Red are equal 4th on 3. AccyMad, Dave in Germany, Proccy Fan and Revived Red joint 6th on 2. The rest nowhere.

Clear message to the organisers not to bollix about with the rules :), as everyone except us spurned the chance of picking up BPs from a penalty shoot out (so we'd have won easily if there had been one ;)). Given the one penalty that did happen was scored by Josh, who I'd nominated to miss :o, I'll dock myself 5 points for that anyway and claim 25th and last spot in the table on -5.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, concludes the entertainment for another season. Roll on Blackpool, Cheltenham, Colchester, Crewe, Doncaster and Grimsby - not necessarily in that order. On Stanley On!!

:alright:

As long as we don't get Yeovil or Exeter or Plymouth (if they lose the playoff final) home and away on a Tuesday night!
