Bradford City Match Thread...........

Seeing as nobody has started one yet.

Same XI as Saturday ???

I woulden't be surprised to see Parrish in goal with maybe Jones starting at Right Back if Donacien isnt fit.

Any news on Kee?

Well done, Stanley. That must have been nail biting in the extreme! :D

Outback Ozzy 09-08-2016 21:52

Re: Bradford City Match Thread...........

What an epic, after Parrish sent off in the 74th minute was certainly nailbiting stuff, plus it then goes to penalties and watching the live text via the BBC app and seeing that we had missed the 1st penalty I thought we were out, next time it updated it was in sudden death at 6 all! And then waiting for the final score seemed to take an age except that Sky Sports presenter at the ground said that the final penalty had been scored by Accy to win the game 11-10 on penalties. Bring on the 2nd round, but please, no more games like that, it cannot be any good for fans, managers and directors tickers :) :) :)

followed shoot-out on bbc. They said Hughesy missed pen early on and thus should lost 5 -4. Then pens continued and Hughesy scored late on. At one stage they said we won 11 - 10 and then Bradford won 10 - 10 ?????? Anyone able to get Radio Lancs or had contact from a match attendee ?

Re: Bradford City Match Thread...........

Fantastic team performance, against a proper footballing side, could have won it before the shoot out, but O Sullivan missed a penalty, first one in the shootout Hughesy missed, i thought oh sh1t we had it now, but bradfords best player on the night, missed the 5th un, all credit to our guts we carried on and won 11-10 Hughsey fittingly scoring the winner, not a man had an off night tonight, bear in mind we played 40 mins or so with 10 men, our keeper being sent off, rightly but he had no choice, shame he had an excellent game up to that. WELL DONE STANLEY.

He missed Stanley's first penalty of the shoot-out, then scored the 11th, before Clark scored the 12th. They missed their 5th.

Great spirit from the lads.

Parish was having a dream debut - made some great saves before the sending off!

Re: Bradford City Match Thread...........

Great match played at a high tempo.
The personnel may change but the system doesn't and the new lads knew their jobs and everybody put a shift in.
Was impressed with Bradford and to be fair they missed four sitters, but you can't take away that Acci matched them in every department .
Pearson just edged MOM for me,but it could have been anybody.
Strange fact tho,of the 25 penalties taken,no keeper saved one, indeed they never laid a glove on one !!

Chimer 09-08-2016 22:55

Re: Bradford City Match Thread...........

Ecky thump! I also missed spotting the Bradford miss on live text and stopped following it when it went 5-4 (should have realised they were going first :o, and couldn't understand why the live text didn't say we'd lost :o:o - but then it had been so far behind).

So started reading this thread just now and couldn't understand why everyone was so happy!! Then someone actually mentioned the score - as I said, ecky thump! :D

I reckon Bradford had about 5 or 6 near misses during the 90 minutes. Our win must be payback for that game a few years ago when were 2-0 up and they came back to win 2-3!:D

Would like to think so Kiwi but there was a very large contingent from Bradford - I think maybe they outnumbered us, which of course made the victory even sweeter:)

still not recovered i feel completely tired for want of a better adjective this morning. after hughesy missed the first penalty i thought, here we go again, a repeat of the hull city penalty shoot out. no point repeating what cashy has said earlier as his comments were spot on for me. the only thing i can add is that hughesy and jonno must have had guts to take another penalty after missing one earlier. well done all the red men especially those two.

Must say the save was given offside, but he wasn't aware, was as good a save as ive seen for a long while.

Video highlights and all the penalties:
Accrington 0-0 Bradford AET - 11-10 pens | Video | Watch TV Show | Sky Sports

Includes a fabulous shot from Jordan Clark. The 'foul' by Parrish looks fairly innocuous.

Talk about nailbiting stuff, wow. How on earth we got through I will never know, but who cares. Fair play to the lads for digging in, especially the back 4 and 2 keepers.

Gutted for Parrish , thought it was a 50/50 decision, he really did have a brilliant 70 minutes, im sure he will take heart from it. Anyone know if its an automatic 3 game ban? Also thought Chapman was brilliant for the remainder of the game, great to know we have 2 good pairs of hands.

Also must mention Beckles who looked a real player last night, hope he can keep it going.

Never a dull moment watching Stanley, that's for sure !

I agree about the "Foul" by Parish!
It was a 50 - 50 ball and he touched the ball. The Bradford No 29 knew he wasn't going to get to it first so he.... ' Kept his feet in'... as it were, in order to get contact from Parish! The Ref was duped by his, 'Olympian Gymnastic Somersault with a full loop and one and a half twists!' If it had been on 'Match of The Day', the pundits would have been saying..." He was entitled to keep his feet in so that the keeper would bring him down". Which is one of my pet dislikes about the modern game....... In my day the forward, realising that he was not going to get the ball, would have jumped over the keeper in order to ensure that neither of them got injured! I suppose my naive, sporting attitude is just old fashioned though!

The rest of the match was similar to Saturday in that we were on the defensive again for long periods. We did show some good movement breaking out occasionally but really we could have been 2 or 3 down at half time if Bradford had come out with their shooting boots on!

Bradford were launching most of their attacks down their right wing and often had an overlap out wide but Pearson coped so well and he played so tight on the two Bradford lads down that side. For the goal I might also suggest that their no 29 was offside leading up to the sending off!?
Chapman was much more composed than on Saturday too. He does need to take care that he doesn't bring the cross bar down though with his antics at the penalties!
Beckles and Hughes continue to develop as a good pairing and Hughes is just so cool!
The rest of the boys battled so well, particularly after we were reduced to ten players! They were all pretty much out on their feet at the end of the match!
:jimbo::jimbo::jimbo:
I reckon that ENGLAND need to watch the video so that they can learn how to take penalties.......are you listening BIG SAM? Shay McCarten's penalty was the ultimate in cool confidence!
Very nerve wracking ....YES.....
But highly SATISFYING....sending the 'Big Club' from Braford home with their tails between their legs.:do-one::wave::wave::wave:
ON STANLEY ON

I suppose JC will have to consider an emergency keeper loan for a couple of weeks as no doubt Elliot will have to sit out the next 3 games - although seem to recall we have gambled without a bench keeper before. Would seem a shame though to jeopordise an early winning streak. Sounds like yesterday couldn't be bettered if you wanted a new team bonding exercise - bodes well, methinks.

Just a late thought !.

It looks to me, following the awesome team effort displayed last night , that JC has again worked a bit of magic where finding and signing some extremely promising young footballers. Plus the occasional ' golden oldie ' is concerned, and to further strengthen the squad by bringing John O'Sullivan back into the fold wasn't a bad move either !.

So whilst handing out bouquets to the players, let me on your behalf say a big 'Thank-you'
To our Manager !.

ON STANLEY...ON !!.

yes the law was changed as the powers that be thought an offence in the penalty area where a penalty is given is punishment enough without a sending off. but violent conduct etc. you can still get sent off in the penalty area. confused you don,t have to implement these new laws this season. excect big kettle type mistakes this early part of the season.
