|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Half Time 1-0 down but pressing last 10 mins, lets hope we can continue second half.
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
A bit more hopeful at HT than on Sat. Wycombe more open, Johnno getting a lot of the ball down the right, need more end product. Struggling to cope with Akinfenwa, as always, Hughesy immense at the back but we have had a couple of close calls, Aaron with a decent save also. Bit disappointed with Eagles. He's playing centrally behind Billy but peripheral so far. But unlike Sat we are still in this.

Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
1-1 McConville...I said he was one of our best players in pre season!
Haters hate... |
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Eagles has been poor, Connelly again poor. Donacien lacks a cutting edge and billy kee not 100%.
We need to improve considerably to get bsck in this, I'm still not convinced on Beckles |
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Nobody i know hates him, but if it makes yeh happy baldy cart on.

Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Well deserved point and a fair result in the end. Proverbial game of two halves, Wycombe stronger and more dominant in the first half, hassling our full backs before they even got the ball, but Stanley much improved in the second half, finding more space and time on the ball as Wycombe couldn't keep up the frenetic pace.
Their goal was a bit of a sucker punch as the ref, who was the usual level for League 2 but managed to distribute his inconsistent decisions equally (!), gave a free kick for what was never a foul on the say so of the linesman. Good cross into the middle of the box and the defensive waters parted for The Fat One to nod home. Coley had some words with the ref at half time, and must have had more with the team as they turned it around in the second 45 (+5) minutes. Thought Donacien had a good game in the first half down the right side with O'Sullivan, who looked like he could do with shedding the odd ounce to get back to full speed (hope his hamstring that saw him subbed isn't too serious) Hughes, Beckles and Pearson had their hands full in the first half hour with The Fat One, but by the second half they'd got him under control, with one player challenging him and the other dropping off for the loose ball. Beckles did everything he needed to as a CB which, at this level, sometimes requires booting the ball into row z. He looked as able as Davies did last year at this stage. Midfield was not as incisive as it might have been and I missed the fact that Scot Brown didn't make the line-up at the last minute. So did the team, I suspect. But great to see Billy Kee back where he belongs, although he was up against another man-mountain in the middle of Wycombe's defence. Sean McConville took the goal well and had an excellent game; certainly he got plenty of practiced with corners. Still work in progress, I reckon, but it looks like the huge squad will come in handy with all these early injuries. On that matter, it must be the first time I've ever seen a programme with Stanley's squad outnumbering the opposition. |
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Agree with Exile, we outplayed them second-half, just a pity we didn't test their keeper more. Donacien good throughout for me, and was the source of much of our counter-attacking down the right. Brown was a big miss, he would have given us more drive through the middle. Stanley MoM was Hughes - organised those around him, positionally excellent and brave and tenacious throughout.

Think it's Pearson, If he was goal side of Akinfenwa maybe he stops the header, a Also poor defending for Sean's goal...Could be a good point come May! |
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Great finish from Sean, just passed the ball into the net.
Theirs was poor defending, think Matty was trying to hold a high line, but against the big fella it's nearly impossible to drop and get around him, lesson learned and we move on |
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Fair play to Matty Pearson, he tried but a planet is an awfully large thing to get around :)

Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Other than the ref for giving an undeserved free kick, I don't think you can blame Pearson for Wycombe's goal.
What the clip doesn't show is that, at set pieces, Akinfenwa often grabbed hold of the marker's arm and, as opposed to the usual pushing and shoving, pulled the defender along with, but behind, him. It's the opposite of what ref's are looking for in congested penalty areas. With cute tricks like that he'll get Wycombe a few points this season. And if Wycombe hold on to the Chelsea keeper, he will save them a few points too. |

If this works, there should be a few more 'highlights' from last night's match. |
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Exile,Coley likes his defenders to hold their line and leave the forwards in.
Not a fan of this as the ball is delivered you have to drop and get around your man whist still watching the ball. Very difficult to do,but against the big fella it's impossible!!!, Personally I would have had Hughes on him,but he's a nightmare to mark six yards out |
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Correction
If you view the fact that Mr. McConville turned a 2 2 draw into a 3 2 victory, he gained the team 2 points. Last night he turned a 1 0 defeat into a 1 1 draw, so gaining 1 point. Therefore I can’t see where the 4 points have come from as he has only gained us 3 points. Perhaps viewed over a season, this is all he will provide. |

However it shouldn't even happen that after every single game we argue over Seans performance. Lets savious what was a good performance last night whereby we showed signs of last seasons standard in my opinion and with Billy back fit feel like we could challenge again. Onwards and upwards |
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Initially I was merely correcting what I perceived to be an inaccurate previous post [by baldy] that inflated Sean’s points contribution.
However, I have followed the somewhat laboured and extensive debate on Sean without comment up to now. I realise that he divides a good number of people. I too hope that he continues with his points contribution, but he hasn’t filled me with the confidence that he will. I will welcome a new dynamic, fullback beating, fearlessly header of the ball type player. |
