Crewe JPT pre match thread

Are we expecting Coleman to give some of the fringe players a game?

I hope so, be good to see how the likes of Hery, Wall and Jones perform

Agree, Davo, it's a bit early to be referring to some untested players as 'fringe' but the perfect time to see what they can do without it affecting the real job of ensuring League survival. Hopefully, they will take their chance to show what they are made of and give Professor Coleman more options.

I would expect the likes of :-

Chapman
Lacey
Eagles (if fit)
Brown (if fit)
Clark
Jones
Hery
Wall

to all play. Will be good to see them in action , and to give coley a selection headache for Carlisle.

Re: Crewe JPT pre match thread

Wonder if young Mr.Jones will get a game at left back? As Hughes won't be playing against Carlisle, Matty Pearson is an obvious choice to move to CB, with Jones taking his slot at left back. It may be useful for those two to have a game together, but certainly the Crewe game would be a good opportunity to see what Callum Jones has to offer.

Is he not more of a centre/right type? be good to try him out though.

Possibly, Cashy. I know the lad from Leyton Orient was definitely a left back, maybe I'm getting Jones' position mixed up with him.

Do we not have to start the game with at least 6 players that played the last game ie Morecambe game !! Othere wise we'll get fined

Yeovil v Pompey has presold less than 100 tickets apparently and Pompey fans have raised the money to pay any fines accrued for fielding a weakened team

Wonder if its just the main stand open for the game then ??

I was under the impression they have just had to make an apperance ?? Sounds like im wrong then !!

Well i would think Hughes is a nailed on starter as he is missing the Carlisle game, as for the other 5, god knows?

I would definately rest the likes of Kee for starters.

And this is what one Walsall fan thinks about it:
SaddledZine | For Walsall FC fans

There's a reasonable summary here of how most teams voted:

And one Northampton fan on Twitter says 'Should be at Sixfields tonight but I'll be at home alphabetising my spice rack'! :)

Heard Doncaster are playing with no recognised defenders tonight?

Makes a joke of the competition if true

I didn't recognise any when they played us! ;)

Re: Crewe JPT pre match thread

Apparently Doncaster also voted against it. And Bury and Peterborough are now saying they'd have voted against if they'd known the top Premiership sides weren't interested.

I couldn't get a signal earlier but now I can get commentary on BBC Stoke DAB. It seems to be pretty drab at Port Vale as well.

Portsmouth made 11 changes
Exeter and Wycombe named their manager as sub
Luton have a 15 year old named (had to get permission from his headteacher)
One of the Bristol Clubs has a 57 year old Supporters Club director on the bench

... and so on and so on

Apparently so in Everton's case, but Wolves lost at Chesterfield.

And Wycombe's Gareth Ainsworth came on as a sub and set up their third goal! Where's Coley when you need him?

Well just got back and I have to say everything about it was dross from our point of view.

Yes we made changes, but make no mistake we where played off the park tonight by a slick Crewe side.

The ONLY good point for me was young Sykes at the back, who I thought looked pretty composed for his age.

Starting to get a little worried I must admit !

Re: Crewe JPT pre match thread

A little early to be worried & certainly not on the basis of a silly cup game where some of our youngsters & a lad who only signed at teatime played - we could do without the distraction of this competition, under the old JPT rules we'd have been out of it already, instead we have to go through the farce of two more group games

choirboy 30-08-2016 21:31

Re: Crewe JPT pre match thread

I agree with you Smudgie. We were played off the park by a dynamic, well organised young Crewe team. In general our boys played as if they were total strangers! One or two in our starting team seemed to think that they could stroll through this game!
Young Sykes does look a good prospect and when he gains a bit more of a physical stature he could be very good. The new lad Rory McKeown had a good first half but faded a bit later on. One item to note is that McKeown has a long throw which is something that we have not had in our armoury for quite a number of years.
If Coley played some of our "fringe" players tonight then I think that we need to go to the hairdressers and get our heads shaved!
Give credit to the young Crewe players. They were faster, slicker, more enthusiastic and were really well organised. Their movement on and off the ball was a delight to behold and I really enjoyed their lovely football.
One final comment is about the poor standard of refereering once again! I am not saying this just because we lost but the referee and one of the assistant referees were useless. The game was not a dirty match at all but the referee booked at least half a dozen players. He didn't seem to favour either team more than the other but some of his decisions were simply mystifying! The ref and his assistants were wearing bright green shirts and my son in law remarked during the second half that, "The men in green seem to be from a different planet!" I suggested that, "They should go back to MARS pretty quickly!"
Had I been a neutral watching the game tonight I would say that " It was a pleasure to watch the young Crewe team tonight but where were Accrington Stanley?"

They still managed to get 1500 on, maybe they just opened the gates :)
