Mansfield
We seem a bit depleted going into tonights game.
I reckon Coley will go Lacey and Hewitt in Midfield and Rommy wide right tho I would personally have Clarke wide right and Romy up front. Gornell to replace Rommy after 60 mins. |
Re: Mansfield
With the squad we got this season,i aint unduly worried, meself i would start Gornell along with billy n drop romy back a little. but anyway i'm happy,

Re: Mansfield
I think that it is quite important to get THREE points tonight at HOME against Mansfield as we have two away matches coming up. Should we get all three points tonight we could well move into a play off position too.:hothothot
Our form is quite good and although we have a couple of injuries and one suspension the larger size of the squad that Coley has assembled should pay off tonight.:jimbo: Coley has talked at length about the importance of the Stanley supporters on the Fishy site and I would like to stress again the respect paid to the 93 who went to Colchester!:alright::alright::alright: Coley wants the players to lift the fans and the fans to lift the players tonight!:alc: So on the terraces and in the stands, let's all respond in the well known way that we can with 90+ minutes of constant singing, clapping and giving it all for the team on the pitch!:theband: COME ON YOU REDS:s_gupjump:s_gupjump ON STANLEY ON:wave8::signbeer::drink: |
Re: Mansfield
Agree with Cashy, I've no issues with whoever gets the nod to start tonight - the only thing that bothers me is the ref, apparently Darren England is the man in the middle tonight
|
Re: Mansfield
No Boco. I always feel comforted when he's starting. Gornell is a bit of an unknown quantity to me, so a chance to get to know the lad.
Combined with Hewitt and Lacey it's a big change, enforced though it is. Thankfully we have a master tactician who seems to know what he's doing. I am going for a nervous, scrappy first half then some inspirational changes after an hour and a narrow win. |
Re: Mansfield
1134 fans with 136 from Mansfield, 998 Stanley fans!
|
Re: Mansfield
i pondered on Beckles supposed poor distribution skills tonight as he pinged that 50 yard laser pass out to Clarke. What a player he is - albeit probably made to look better tonight against a poor Mansfield offence.
Ref was awful, but in the end our customary poor first half cost us. Typical that it was another long range shot that beat our rock solid defence. Clark needs to be brought into the game more. He's ace. Maybe Vyner should be giving a bit more on the right? Other standout thought - Terry may have the better song but Boco is so much better than Gornell.... |
Re: Mansfield
Poor game to watch tonight ruined by a ref that never let the game flow we were missing 3 key players and it showed leaving Boco out left us with little or no pace going forward and did,nt think either team deserved to win although thought there was nothing wrong with our disallowed goal, thought we could have done with more than one sub being used but a draw is better than getting beat poor turn out tonight less than a thousand home fans atmosphere very flat tough game away at Cambridge Saturday who seem to be turning a bit of a corner let,s hope some players are back.

Re: Mansfield
Felt it was a cagey game first half.second half we where better side although like we where at home frequently last season did not create a bundle of chances. there goal was a good hit. Referee was poor apart from the advantage he allowed in the build up to our goal. The defence was its now customary solid unit. It just feels like these are the games if we want automatic promotion we need to convert to 3 points(or am I over ambitious)

Re: Mansfield
Poor display against a very poor side, (aint scored a league goal since Aug 27th) poor ref, poor substitution Rommy should have been brought on much sooner, poor crowd, a very poor Reward for the people that travelled last week.

He was absolutely USELESS!!:eek::eek::eek::eek: According to the BBC Statistics 40 free kicks were given tonight and only 3 players were booked! Mansfield got away with climbing on the backs of Stanley players so many times and really should have had a dozen more free kicks awarded against them. Our players were also guilty of some needless fouls as we gave too many free kicks away for pushing players in the back, albeit fairly gently! The referee also missed an amazingly obvious penalty fairly late in the match when either Clark or Lacey, (not sure which one it was), overlapped down the right wing into the box and was shove so blatantly off the ball with the referee only about 15 yards away and his assistant level with the play at a similar distance. If it wasn't a penalty then why was our player not booked for 'Simulation'? The ref simply spoiled the match for me, and by the criticism levelled at him from around me, he spoiled it for many other fans too and probably the players as well! Neither side could get going because of the constant disruption to play.:bingobang:bingobang:bingobang We missed both Coneely and Brown tonight and I thought that we were playing with a couple of passengers in the first half. That's not to say that the lads coming in were poor it is just that Coneely takes control in midfield and bosses the match quietly with brown buzzing around doing all the running! We were much better in the second half and really we should have won the match IMHO. Pearson, Donacien and Vyner and keeper Elliot were all solid again but the outstanding player was Beckles. He fully deserved his Man of the Match award tonight. He was calm and skilful in defence, his distribution was very good and he was up there causing mayhem in their penalty box for the goal that we did mange to score! A very frustrating night for the Stanley faithful and probably even more so for the players and for Coley and Jimmy too! :pain30::help::angry::stupid::signwier::bangh8: Come back Mr Kettle!:hidewall: |
Re: Mansfield
Not a god point but still a point. It is looking like we will stay up.
|
Re: Mansfield
On a bit of a side note, the half time over 50's kick around was more entertaining than the Stanley Mansfield first half:D. The team playing the Stanley shirted fogies had travelled up from Weston-Super-Mare which is 215 miles away!

Coleman sounds proper depressed to me. Overlooked for the England caretaker role yet again? He even seems to be hearing voices. I don't recall booing at half time. The only grumbles I heard were from the poor bastards who went for the over seasoned peppered pies. |
Re: Mansfield
I didn't hear any boos either, at least not towards our lads - there one or two directed at a couple of the Mansfield players as they were being subbed, young Zorro received some disapproval as did the one who the Clayton End seemed to know worked in a bank - at least I think that's what they were chanting at him:rolleyes:
|
Re: Mansfield
Heard no boos at all on the clayton end, suspect thats just an excuse.?
|
Re: Mansfield
There were plenty of boos aimed at the referee on multiple occasions
|
Re: Mansfield
Two points off second place.
The division has been kind to us. No one really piling on lots of points as we have had (with the benefit of hindsight perhaps) an inevitable period of getting new players settled in. Does a tight division favour us for the rest of the season? We should still be able to grind out draws when we play badly which may compensate for the lack of power up front? Does it work like that or wishful thinking? |
Re: Mansfield
I think Coley cost us last night with his first half tactical jiggery pokery and he knows it: hence his tetchy interview.
Vyner on the right wing! |
Re: Mansfield
Dan Jewell has reviewed Sean's offside goal with a referee, the goal should of been given

Re: Mansfield
I thought Mansfield closed us down very well in the first half and deserved to go ahead with a brilliantly taken free kick, Stanley were allowed more time on the ball in the second half and produced many good chances, I don’t know if there is some history with Billy Kee and the match Referee but it seemed every time Billy got near the ball the Ref. blew up for a foul against him, in the end maybe a draw was a fair result
|
Re: Mansfield
Having just watched Coley's post match video I think that he misunderstood about the "Booing" which was actually aimed at the inept referee and a couple of Mansfield players who tried to bait the Clayton End fans!:idunno:
Some quotes form Coley; 1) "A lot of time wasting very stop/start!" .....According to BBC Stats there were 40 free kicks awarded during the game but only three bookings! 2) "An 'interesting' performance from the referee!" ......ten years ago Coley would have had a right verbal go at the ref and would probably have got sent to the stands! 3) "Well, he's 'invented' a free kick on the edge of the box unfortunately for us!" ......The Mansfield player clearly slipped as he tried to turn, just ask any fan who was behind the Clayton End goal. Having said that it was a quality finish which took a slight deflection too. 4) "We have a similar incident and he blows and everyone in the ground thinks he has given a penalty and he's given a free kick against Jordan Clarke! So, staggering really!" ......I thought that it was one of the most obvious penalties in the history of football! Clarke was pushed in the middle of his back and went careering head over heels! 5) "It will be interesting to see Shaun McConville's goal that was disallowed 'cause everyone on the pitch is adamant that he's onside and it was a very late flag as well which makes you think that the linesman wasn't 100% sure!" ........Difficult for us on the Clayton End to tell at right angles to the linesman's view but from our players reactions I would suggest that the goal should have stood. The Mansfield players cleverly took advantage of the ref's ineptitude and got away with climbing all over the backs of our players more and more as the game went on! Most matches where 15 to 20 free kicks are awarded would yield about 5 bookings so in a match of 40 free kicks you could expect the ref to have made 10 bookings! Which would also probably have resulted in a couple of sending offs too..........but........Was the match a 'Dirty' match?.....not at all! Referees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!:cool::cool: |
Re: Mansfield
I don't think there's much point in being annoyed at the people of Accrington for not coming to matches.
People have limited budgets and may well have splashed half-a-season's worth of games on the trip to West Ham alone! Also, who do you actually get annoyed with? The person who has no interest in football? The person who works on saturday? The person who doesn't even have two 'appennys to rub together? Really, like all businesses or entertainment industry it's about encouraging the people who MAY be interested to come along. Andy Holt is doing a good job in improving the ground, Coleman is doing wonders on the pitch.... is there enough Google Page Ranking? Are more creative ways of getting people along being progressed? My missus, with no connection to Accrington and not a massive football fan just loves going to matches. Actually gets very excited about it. It costs £9/match on a season ticket, we even sing along sometimes. If she can get the buzz then others can. |
Re: Mansfield
Anyone have a link to extended highlights ? I was sat in the stand near the away end and really want to see the disallowed goal again and that dodgy non penalty decision.
Clearly missed Brown and Conneely. On to the next one ..... |
Re: Mansfield
Took Daughter on last night who's 11 for first time this season I'm sure last year it was £15 for me and free for her, £30 last night probably too steep for me to go much this season. Shame but £10 for a child especially on a school night midweek seems a bit high ?
|
Re: Mansfield
If you had bought a loyalty card I think you would have paid £35 (£20 for card, child free, adult £15) and thereafter cost for adult and child £15 per game.
If I am right I'd be a bit annoyed nobody told you when you bought the ticket. |
Re: Mansfield
Getting people hooked on the club and going to the games as a habit feels like the right way to go. It's not like a big club where you can go to the occasional big match and supplement it with lots of telly. You're probably either a Stanley fan that goes a lot or completely not arsed?
They've got a great season ticket price that makes that emotional and physical commitment possible. £9/game is fantastic once you've had a taste and like what you see. The only barrier I can see is the initial outlay. £400 for two tickets as the holiday period looms may prove impossible for some. I wonder if they could do interest free loans on them? See all the games for £17/month. A few other things that I feel have drawn me in: 1. The sense of history - Accrington could actually have a brilliant museum if they wished. The club that wouldn't die. 2. Clayton Road end atmosphere. However, I the first 10-12 games I went to we sat in the main stand and it did lack atmosphere. The Clayton end maybe a little intimidating perhaps. However, the fanzone is there now. I'd really try to make this part of the ground as much as a focal point as possible. Encourage more people to go there. 3. Social media - holt and burgess tweet a lot as does asfcofficial....plus this forum...all helps to keep interest going. I imagine it's not easy, growing a football club but ASFC has loads going for it. |

We're not in a position to be turning away (semi) regular support or making it hard work for them. I was challenged before the Crewe game on entry (despite being season ticket holder) and I 'd have thought they'd be pulling bodies of the street to fill the ground that night. |
Re: Mansfield
Still look on bright side were 5 games unbeaten

Re: Mansfield

why were you challenged? are you one of the 'lucky' concession holders who still looks under 65? I remember a cup game, several years ago, when the turnstile lady insisted on taking only £3 from me, the concession price. I was 58 at the time!!! I'm now 71, so, officially an OAP!! |
Re: Mansfield
It was a poor game all round. It was a game we should have won as we know from last season one draw would have seen us through, Mansfield beat us last season at home as well. I hope we don't regret this at the end of the season. However we will get games like this and we need the resolve to beat teams like this.

I made the same sort of error Shurm. When I got my season ticket I could have got a free season ticket for my youngest but (thinking itd only be a couple of quid a time) couldnt be arsed to fill another form out! It bit me on the bum for the pompey game having to fork out a tenner.

Re: Mansfield
just watched the video thought our keeper shoulda done better with that freekick.

Re: Mansfield
Better? Better?
That's a bit harsh Cashy. Rifled in off the crossbar. Sight obscured by a 5 man wall....I'd concede it wasn't entirely unstoppable, but it would be a save of the season contender that would have been required. |
