Fire in the hole!

The new catering facilities behind the Clayton end and the happy Lancashire lassies who attend our culinary needs are a credit to the club. However, I too suffered third degree burns when, in a moment of madness, switched my usual order from meat & potato to 'peppered steak'.
Fellow northerners, I submit that pepper is an alien condiment to all Lancastrians, and can only assume that southern cissy Jamie Oliver (a lifelong Cambridge fan) has infiltrated the kitchen at Hollands pies with the intention of damaging our vocal chords. Well, if I ever meet said chef I'll tell him straight -"Oi! OLIVER! Stop messing about with our pies! Steak & Ale - YES! Steak & Kidney - YES! Steak & Onion - YES! Steak & Pepper - NO! NEVER!!!
So come on Catering Manager, give us a meat pie we know and love. One with meat, gravy and a hint of gristle - but please! No bleedin pepper!!!
:dflam:

I may have to purchase a tin hat but I'm a fan of the Peppered Steak. Although perhaps my view is skewered seeing as I don't pay due to winning a competition with Hollands to get a free pie every home league game!!:) Northern equivalent of winning the Euromillions.

Maybe it's just something that comes with being a member of the House of Lords? A palate refined beyond the point of even Holland's flagship offering?

They are vile. I know there's a hell of a lot of pepper in them (obviously), glutinous gravy and plenty of limp, pale pastry that stubbornly sticks to the roof of your mouth but there was no evidence of any steak in the one I had.

Anyway, I thought Dav007 was sorting them out for us. Preferably replacing them with caviar and fondu patties.
