PA announcer here
Hello!
This is my first post on the forum, I'm one of the people you hear over the tannoy on matchdays. So far I've done the games against Exeter, Burnley, Crewe, Portsmouth and Cheltenham. I'm just looking for some feedback on how you are finding the volume and the music, it sounds okay from my end but it's almost guesswork when it comes to knowing how loud it is around the ground. If you're struggling to hear, I'll try and up the volume for my next game. In terms of music, I use a playlist but I'm always open to suggestions for songs to add to it so let me know if there's any songs you want to hear. Lastly, I just wanted to say that I am quickly becoming a huge fan of Accrington Stanley and hopefully it will be a really successful season :) Jake |
Re: PA announcer here
Good luck with your efforts, Jake.
As I'm sure you appreciate, the issue of the PA volume is a tricky one. Needs a fine balance, and/or extremely good speakers, for people to be able to hear announcements/music but still be able to talk to neighbouring fans. Worst places I've encountered, in more ways than one, are Cheltenham and Stevenage where the PA is so loud you can't even talk to someone sitting in the next seat. Perhaps whoever set up those systems only ever communicates to those sitting next to them by text.;) |

Re: PA announcer here
Hello Jake,
Your services are much appreciated. Perhaps a slight increase in volume for all us old duffers behind the Clayton end who are a bit Mutt & Jeff. However, I think you could greatly help to increase the atmosphere created by our low gates by leading the crowd with shouts such as 'Offside ref!', 'Red card ref!' and 'Penalty ref!' at maximum volume. Obviously, this only applies to the opposition. For our lads, may I suggest; 'Get into em!', 'Shoot!' & 'For f*~#s sake!' - for those occasions where we miss a golden opportunity to score, eg - free kicks, penalties etc. Yours truly, Sir Rodney Stiffupperlip KFC & Bucket :jimbo: |

My next game is the Newport one in a few weeks.[/QUOTE] Given the problems at Rodney Parade, then it has to be Tom Jones' "The green, green grass of home". :p |
Re: PA announcer here
As long as any increase in volume is just for on the announcements & not on the music please - at times last season in the main stand you couldn't hear yourself think because of how loud the music was

Re: PA announcer here
Jake, if you ever need,to take the day off, I am happy to stand in and do the PA

Re: PA announcer here
On Saturday, if you will kindly play that classic pop hit - 'With my little stick of Blackpool Rock' by the master of mirth Mr George Formby, I promise to bring my ukulele.

Re: PA announcer here
you can't please all the people Jake, but you sure can displease all the people!
Whether its my taste or not I think you can't go too far wrong if you try to look for inspiration around mod type music. I'd be thinking more along the lines of where does the inspiration for much of the Ultras songs come from? Madness etc Lots of the younger guys have a penchant for this type of stuff, whether it's just a retro kitsch type of cool of whether its good music is another debate though ... also lots of the older guys will remember such days with fondness. I remember talking to Duncan Seddon (played for us in the 80's) a couple of years back and he was talking to me about the crowd noise. He said that he and his mates had loved it because all these young guys were singing stuff like Minder, Madness etc and that it was a real throwback. I also remember one of the Torquay weekenders where we took over a pub on the friday night. They had a band on that was playing things like The Proclaimers "500 miles", The Clash "Rock the Kasbah (rock the crown ground)". The pub was full of multi aged Stanley and to a man, woman and inbetweener there was raucous enjoyment. Sing alongers, with tempo and volume. Secondly. Clayton End volume is almost irrelevant as in previous seasons you just cant hear it at all. The Cheltenham game you could have just shouted from your seat and we'd have heard you. If it is possible to separate the volume channels from the fanzone and the actual stand then I think you should increase the volume significantly on the fanzone. Currently it is being used by good numbers of people from half one onwards and decent music at a decent volume should help to get folk feeling up for it. Decide why you are playing music and that will dictate what you play and how loud. Is it background music just to waste electric? is it calming music to keep people sat in their seats and encouraging coffee sales? or do we want folk bouncing off the walls and ready to party? |
Re: PA announcer here
Maybe play some modern remixes of old classics, young ones get modern music, oldies still kinda get the aincient classics
|
Re: PA announcer here
Wise words from Maccawozagod. Especially playing Minder.
|
Re: PA announcer here
Can you play some cradle of filth for my old mate Cashman?
|
Re: PA announcer here
I may be wrong but have they stopped playing "Wake me up before you go go" at the end of matches this season? If they have then please reinstate it immediately. If not then please play it much louder

No, no, no - anything but that please - what about going back to the more traditional tunes such as On Stanley On, Cart on Stanley etc.. |
Re: PA announcer here
A slight moan here Jake. When you read the half time scores out could you alter the tone of your voice depending on those scores. For example, if you say Grimsby 1 Cambridge 2, could you say the Cambridge 2 in a different tone to the Grimsby 1 as it indicates a difference in the score. I've noticed that you'll announce the games with different scores at half time(or results when the games have finished)in the same tone. It's a bit difficult to say what i mean by writing it down,as i can't give a verbal example, but if you listen to the 5 o clock results on the radio you'll see/hear what i mean.;)
Also. Could we have Swords Of A Thousand Men by Tenpole Tudor as our theme tune when the teams come out, if possible?;) |

Re: PA announcer here
Time for Action by Secret Affair. Also "Lancashire Leads The Way" by The Houghton Weavers.
|
Re: PA announcer here
Can you play some Honey G for my old mate Baldy?
|
Re: PA announcer here
Looks like a mixed bag of requests. Suggest you do it like a wedding Mr PA Announcer: a bit of Motown before the match, the Birdy song at half time and the Righteous Brothers as we leave the ground.
At least that way everyone is equally unhappy. |
Re: PA announcer here
Thanks everyone for your comments.
The half time score reading is definitely something I want to improve on and I will up the volume a little bit too :) Keep the music suggestions going! I will add some of them to the playlist. |
Re: PA announcer here

Re: PA announcer here
A few of us who stand to the left of the Clayton End near the cow shed have great difficulty in hearing any announcements. I don't know if the speaker attached to the cow shed is working properly or not but this Saturday we could not hear anything.
Could it be checked out please? |

The Whinney Hill is the "problem" area; but given it's not over populated, to me it's a sensible plan?? Can I suggest you move a little closer to the Clayton End and I'll ask the PA lads to add just a little more volume when making the announcements. Also the "system" doesn't allow different volumes in each stand; one size/volume for all!! |
Re: PA announcer here
He seemed to only be asking fer it to be checked out, not spending a fortune on it.
|
Re: PA announcer here
The PA man is a disgrace
After asking for requests, he clearly wasn't interested I had baldy phone me sobbing his eyes out that I don't love him because the PA didn't play any Honey G Andy Holt needs to get a new PA man for the job, and I'm happy to put myself forward |
Re: PA announcer here
The PA man deserves a medal for not playing any Honey flippin G! :D
|
Re: PA announcer here
Was that you JWarrior95 who read the half time and full time scores out yesterday? If it was, you've learnt quickly!;) If it wasn't listen to the bloke who read them out to see/hear what i mean.

Re: PA announcer here
What happened to the PA man the other year who was from down south? He liked sucking up to southern teams fans,in an embarrassing fashion:o. Only northerners(preferably from east Lancs)should be allowed to work the tannoy!:D

Re: PA announcer here
I am in the main stand across from the whinney hill stand. I was wondering if there is something wrong with the speakers in our stand as they don't seem to on. Would it be possible to announce the crowd figure a little earlier, Just play Cashy's request and every little thing will be alright.
