Satanage!
Here's my team based on memory of the injury situation: Chapman, Matty, Beckles, Hughes, Lacy, Seamus, Brown, O'Sullivan, Clark, Kee, Boco.
I'm massively confident today. Massively. Well, maybe some nerves about the back four. But - This is it. Promotion push. |
Re: Satanage!
according to Twitter it's been raining this morn in Accy. Been full on blue skies and sunshine all morning in Manchester.
Getting a bit nervous about making it there on time. Er Indoors is in full chatter mode with her mates at a charity cake eating event. I'm sitting nervously in the front of the pub, watching her and wondering when I'm forced to cut short her girly giggling gaiety and get the hell out and onto the motorway for more serious business. |
Re: Satanage!
Much better. Movement, sharpness and a constant threat.
What has their no 13 come dressed as? https://twitter.com/lorddidsbury/sta...03635732160512 |
Re: Satanage!
Why do I really, REALLY now have Stevenage at the top of my most hated sporting teams in the whole wide world? (Yes, they have surpassed Australian national teams.)
|
Re: Satanage!
Jesus, what happened at half time? An entire team abducted by aliens.
|
Re: Satanage!
Looking at this in the wilds of Peru, but don't tell me, I can guess what happened - Stanley were all over them in the first half and squandered chance after chance - then they went off the boil in the second half and Satanage made their chance count.
Time after time after time. |
Re: Satanage!
A bit worse than that. They had several chances but only needed one.

Re: Satanage!
I am at a loss to understand how we lost this un, in abysmal conditions, thought everyone played well, should have put this to bed by half time. was nothing wrong with the attacking formation much better than 1 up, imho, the water on the pitch made it very difficult for both teams, the only way Satanage won was a horrible rick by our keeper, who in my view was very dodgy today, disappointing but not despondant, on to Hartlepool on tuesday. Terry for me had his best game this season, but was substituted ??? hes had poor uns yet remained on 90 mins?? explain that i can't??
|
Re: Satanage!
Cashy - good summary. I think Elliot is too cautious. Rarely comes for crosses even if on the 6 yard box.
Yes, Terry was very, very impressive first half. Was better than Billy. I was surprised Clark came off too- thought it would be Sean. Anyway, here's the opinion that counts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljRIJp7CQLA |
Re: Satanage!
First half I thought we played some good stuff given the conditions & should've been a couple of goals to the good before the whistle & then . . . . . . don't know what happened second half but we just seemed to run out of steam, typically they have 2 shots & 1 goes in! Their own fans didn't seem to realise they'd scored till a few minutes after the event going off their delayed reaction.
Overall don't think we deserved to lose it but neither did we do enough to win it - back to the drawing board for Tuesday, we go again! |
Re: Satanage!
I thought Terry had his best game of the season so far today, he worked his socks off. Couldn't understand him being substituted. Agree with Cashy disappointing but not despondent. We looked pretty good at times despite the atrocious conditions. We'll get ourselves back into contention I'm sure.

Re: Satanage!
It's quite simple ladies and gentlemen. We can't score, so we can't win!

My God-this is one for the ' Impossible Headlines ' thread. Not a bad word about the ref!!!!!!
|
Re: Satanage!
..not a good word either...
|
Re: Satanage!
Kiwi, the ref didn't come out with much credit either - first half he wasn't too bad but a bit like Stanley he lost his way in the second, we've had worse (much worse) but he let himself be conned by the opposition's tactics too often

On current form, and with bottom clubs starting to pick up points, the bottom looks a lot closer than the top. |
Re: Satanage!
in a game where pools of water made it difficult to pass the ball along the ground, Stanley had the best of the first half but failed to score, by the second half we looked a bit jaded and that lot handled conditions better and scored, the biggest detriment too the game was Matty picking up a yellow which will see him suspended for 1 game
|
Re: Satanage!
not sure if the game should have gone ahead especially after seeing the ball stick on the main stand side in the first minuit. a lot worse than ellison gate and worse than others called off. given that it was same for both sides and although we played well in the first half we really didn.t look like scoring, not enough decent hard shots on target and as for our free kicks they are not good enough to say they are a joke. a draw would have been fairer but again we can,t rely on a goal of the season contender to win games.
|
Re: Satanage!
Sorry the conditions were same for both sides we had 3 golden chances to score but overall they looked stronger and fitter has the game drew to a close and poor keeping led to the goal, we look poor at home can,t score and unless we find a system to convert chances I think we will struggle at the wrong end off the table not ideal for attracting new long term supporter's Andy Holt won,t like that me neither.

Glad to see some kind words about Terry G for once, but also glad to see Billy Kee was fit enough to come on for the last wee while. Couldn't really expect him to turn a game after so long out, but we certainly have missed him.
|
Re: Satanage!
The substitutions baffled me.
Clark was a danger low centre of gravity and with the right ball I was confident he'd end up getting pulled down for a pen. Gornell needed for his battling qualities and Brown needed to sit in. Boco ineffectual McConville had a poor game - both should have been replaced. By the way who picks man of the match ? Whoever it is Beckles has to be their love child. Poor for the goal and the keeper ........ |
Re: Satanage!
It is lucky that the table is so tight at this point in the season. Something is not right in the dressing room. We can not raise our game at home in the league yet the performances in the cup are great. I don't know what the problem is but we need to sort it quick. Even with a good run the best we can expect is a play off place as other teams are gathering strength, We are easy to sucker punch rather than beat. Last season we had the steel in the team to come back from being a goal down but that seems to have deserted us this season. On paper we have enough quality players to be battling for a top spot. So there must something missing in the mixture.
|
Re: Satanage!
Beckles deserved MOTM. That he lumped a lot of balls out of play was, I thought, very wise of him - even if it meant he didn't look as assured as normal. Safety first in dangerous conditions.
Vyner frustrated with his distribution once more. May as well kill two birds with one stone and have him be the one to hoof our free kicks. With any luck he'd scuff one off the wall for a lucky deflection. Corners and free kicks are no use to us. I concur about Boco. He looked great at first but once he had a couple of puddle incidents his confidence sagged. Anyway, let's just think about how great those first 45 mins were. Jono, Billy and Shay will be hitting form soon then the Don will return and we will be, once again, on the verge of being invincible. |
Re: Satanage!
Players think they're better than they are.
Need to take some responsibility and start to grind out some wins. Tippy tappy play it out from the back, waiting to play the perfect ball in their final third aint working and is becomming painfully predictable to watch. At minute we're a soft touch. Need to go back to basics and get some fight back. 2 of 3 wins at home scabby against Doncaster and Blackpool. Relegation form. Also wish Coley would stop slagging the keeper. If he's that bad don't play him. Yeovil has become massive game. Lets relly get behind them and make the Crown ground a place people fear again. |
Re: Satanage!
With a waterlogged pitch, if any game cried out for effective use of wing play it was surely yesterdays.
In the second half, Stevenage began to dominate the midfield, yet we constantly tried to attack through the centre. Stevenage, on the other hand, made excellent use of the wings, attacking down Stanley's wide open flanks time & again. Yesterday was ideal for big strong centre forward who could throw his weight about in the penalty area, yet the Gorn was substituted. I'm Rommy Boco's biggest fan, but conditions yesterday didn't suit his style of play. It would have been more effective to bring Taylor-Fletcher on in place of Rommy & keep Terry on. Or even better, replace McConville who was ineffective. Also, if Billy Kee is fit enough for the bench, he must by definition be 'fit to play'. If he's not quite up to scratch it would be better starting him, when we seem to create more chances, than waiting until the games lost. We again wasted two goal scoring opportunities from free kicks in dangerous areas. 'Predictable' is becoming our trade mark. Stevenage could easily have scored another couple of goals & Parish made some good saves. But he also put our defence under unnecessary pressure with some suicidal 1 yard throw-outs when what was needed was a long punt over their midfield. A few more home displays like yesterdays & all our ideas of trying to increase attendances will be futile. |
Re: Satanage!
Major plans were made to go to Hartlepool but to a man we're not bothering.
Team selection will be interesting ....... No one could moan 1 to 11 if they were dropped. |
Re: Satanage!
I'm concerned we have the most unfit squad in the league

A few more home displays like yesterdays & all our ideas of trying to increase attendances will be futile.[/QUOTE] its going to be hard to keep the ones we,ve got never mind increasing attendances. apart from the portsmouth game and 10 mins. against blackpool the home league games have been dire. i for one are going to give yeovil a miss. has the look of a 1950,s B film double bill. be at the Vic tomorrow night though. |

how many decent shots on target did we have in that first 45. its about getting the ball in the net. something which seems impossible without a goal of the season contender. |
Re: Satanage!
The situation is even worse than we thought!
Stanley can't even claim to be 'just unlucky' now Mourinho has claimed top spot in the victim stakes. |

I read that the conditions were the same for both sides, not entirely true their long ball style of play was not so inhibited by the conditions as our along the ground quick passing style

Re Conditions: Wishful thinking Cashy. There will always be conditions that suit some sides more than others however much you try to adapt. Larger pitch, heavier pitch, playing a Turkish team in sweltering heat.
(Admittedly the chances of the latter are remote in Stanley's case.) |

Dav007 - Most unfit team in the league? I share Revived Red's curiosity at this statement.

Wishful thinking Cashy that you could, for example, expect a horse that likes the going firm adapting to heavy ground. Easier said than done.
