Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
At the moment, very light rain hope it stays this way, by the way wonder if yeh can get odds on the beast being sent off?:D
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
The forecast is dreadful. It's showing 80% chance of heavy rain between now and kick off. I can see one of those situations looming where it will be called off and then there will be moans that it was predictable.
In this situation anyone travelling from Wycombe needs to do so at their own risk. |

Hasn't Accrington got it's own microclimate? A bit like places on the coast of cornwall that stay sunny and dry even if it's lashing down elsewhere?

Just passed Wycombe's team coach on Whalley Rd about half an hour ago - fingers crossed they don't have to turn round & go straight home again

Thanks Twenty Eight - if that one is correct I will truly doth my cap to thee.
In order to make the evening extra special and incredibly exciting I am on a tram to Bury. Im expecting Nat Lofthouse and Tom Finney may be in the next carriage, with their boots round their necks chatting to fans. It's just so Northern retro. |
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Rodak, Donacien, Pearson, Hughes, Rodgers, Clark, Brown, Conneely, Clare, McCartan, Kee
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
That's the actual team. From Twitter
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Brown was disappointing Saturday so he's done well to stay in - likewise Clare. With us being at home I'd like to have seen us go for the jugular a bit and put the big lad up top.
Team looks far more balanced with Donacien back. |
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
So that's fixed odds sorted - Brown and Clare to score haha !
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
McCarten corner headed home by Clare 45+1 score 1-0
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
There you go ....... haha ! Brown next ......
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Results stay as they are we'll be 15 points off playoffs #believe

Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
And mines showing Jordan Clark assist not McCarten
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Well done, Mr. Clare. Beeb web site claims Jordan C laid it on.
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
1-1 guess who
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
2-1 him again
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
2-2 Matty P
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
I'll be happy when he hangs up his boots! Always always scores against us and mainly scores the winner!
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
knew we shudda had a whip round and signed him for Stanley
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Coley only using 1 sub what a suprise game really could of done with some fresh legs like Husin did we just loan him to warm the bench
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
All over 2-2. 1 point better than 0 points but not as good as 3 points
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Overall i thought a good display, wycombe seemed to get away with many fouls with a soft ref,the substitution was as weird as it comes to me, Terry G, aint played for yonks and is brought on, the young lad who scored the equaliser at donny, must be wondering what the score is wi that!! but still terrys a mate of he who rules.
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Akinfenwa needs to retire for our sake! In my opinion fairly even game. Wycombe liked the aerial route where as we mixed it up more. Matty Pearson showed great determination not just with the goal. Rodak was scared to come and claim the ball and dropped the ball a couple of times. To leave me thinking is he better than the other keepers at the club on tonights performance? Mccartain had one of those days where he runs down blind alleys. Was surprised the energetic Clare was subbed rather than mccartain. Clark to showed good energy. Overall hard earned point towards are safety target. Let's get 3 against barnet on Saturday.

Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
It was a game we should have won. we could easily have gone in at half time 2/3 nil up. We just seem to lack that killer instinct in front of goal at times. Their first goal was a gift of a header as no one was near him, I have to say his second was a cracker. Our goals were hard fought and should have been easier as we over passed. I do wonder what is in Coleys mind. Billy playing mainly lone striker again. Our passing was poor again. Yet we were the better team all round. But like others have said 1 point is better than 0 points. we should have had three. The substitutions were a mystery really.

Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
My fearful prediction in the 'Guess the Score' thread that the beast would return to haunt us proved prophetic.
We may jest about his pie-eating propensity, but the guy is a real handful & can turn a game in the blink of an eye. He's as slow as a carthorse, but always manages to be in the right place at the right time. We were comfortably better in the first half & our one goal advantage was the least we deserved, it could & should have been more. The Chairboys upped their work rate in the second half & Mr Akinfenwa duly turned the game - in the blink of an eye. Things were looking as bleak as the weather till up stepped our hero Matty Pearson to save the day. It was one of those games which could have gone either way, so a draw was a fair result at the end of the day. Thought our boys put in a real shift tonight & don't intend to criticise individuals, although I think Matty P deserved his MOM award. Clark, Rodgers & the Don all gave 101%, the rest a mere 100%. |
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
I thought we were great until they scored. Passed well, moved, ran at them, got the ball back, the Beast kept quiet. As Clark started to get into the game we had them on the ropes. Then all of a sudden the big man changed everything.
Even so we had loads of time at 2-2 and started to look threatening until the excellent Clare was replaced by el Tel. Around me heads were scratched, people glanced quizzically at each other. Whatever masterstroke Coley planned didn't come off and the match petered out somewhat. Results didn't go too well around us tonight. Scores on the doors: 8 - Matty P, Brown, Clare 7.5 - the Don, Hughes, Seamus, Clark 7 - Kee, Harvey, mccartan, 6.5 - goalie Attendance was 1045. Was Ben Hur on telly? |
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Thought the ref was very good tonight. Let play flow and nurtured a good tempered game.
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Ade was the star tonight his second goal was superb

Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Thoroughly enjoyed the game, especially first half when young Harvey was running rings (or should I say very large circles) around Akinfenwa!
Second half Wycombe were a handful & overall a draw was probably a fair result although me nails were a little raggier when I got him after coming very close to losing but for an excellent off the line clearance by I think Mark Hughes. Yet again Billy got little protection from the ref who I thought was ,at best, very flakey - that bandaged head's becoming a familiar sight, hope he's ok today |
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Correct me if I'm wrong, but in years gone by didn't a player who gashed his head have to leave the pitch, sniff into the bottle of smelling salts, get some emergency stitches from the club doctor, then have some badly applied bandages wrapped round their bonce before returning several minutes later to a huge roar of the crowd and the flash bulbs of cameras from across the world getting the shot for next morning's papers?
Yesterday it was all done with the speed of an F1 pit stop and as much fuss as if Billy's sock tie had come loose. I reckon they were wusses in "the good old days". |
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
think everyones said it. as for the beast scoring against us he,ll be dropping down the leagues hopefully soon. i imagine coley had teams he always scored against no matter who was marking him, its just one of those things. a bit like the doncaster game in a lot of ways. not too sure about the goalkeeping situation though as the lad seems more than a little shaky to me. maybe a game on the bench might help him.

Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
On reflection...and I haven't been looking at ' The Mirror' !. After 45 minutes of the teams matching each other on a dodgy surface ( but all praise to Buzzer for the pitch which he finally produced ,)..Wycombe showed why they are showing such excellent form in League Two...and Ade's second goal was a real gem !. However, the Reds can be pleased with their efforts and the result gained from these !.
I only hope that the pitch holds up for Saturday, if it does then a similar show from the team should be rewarded with the 3 points so desperately needed. KTF.... |
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
barnet will be another side similar to wycombe with constant high balls into the box and scrapping for everything. hope the ref on saturday will be less tolarant on all the physical stuff and a main stand linesman who can get more than one decision correct in 90 odd mins.
|
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
good morning Yonmon. "After 45 minutes of the teams matching each other on a dodgy surface".
Did you, perchance, slip a little brandy into ones flask of cocoa yesterday? Or maybe I did??? my impression was that we pretty much battered them in the first half and whilst the pitch looked bare in parts the ball ran true on it. |
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Must agree wi LordD on this, at half time 2 or 3 nil would not have been unjust imho.

sip a small ''Absolut and It' after ten in the evening. So no Lord Didsbury, not a drop of Brandy touched my lips via that vilest of concoctions, namely the dreaded distillation of the Cacao Bean !. However, I was, as I said, more than pleased with the overall performance from the Reds, against a not very Football-minded Wycombe and a Referee who was perhaps a trifle inconsistent supported by Assistants of a similar ilk !. I am sure that you, Cashy, and all who attended will agree with me when I once again forward a word of appreciation to Buzzer for his sterling efforts to produce the playing surface we noted last evening....I was, and I'm not often, astonished at the way it played and stood up to the test. KTF. |
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Yes, Buzzer deserves the freedom of the town.

I can understand the desire for a continuous flowing game but surely the referee's job IMHO is to ensure a fair match by applying the laws and for the safety of the players. He failed on both counts as he allowed Wycombe to constantly cheat with their persistant 'niggly' pushes from behind and he also missed the Red card! Having said all that, in the first half Matty Pearson seemed to have been assigned to employ Wycombe like tactics and to man mark Akinfenwa and he did so by reciprocating with similar 'pushing' tactics to Wycombe's! In the second half we went to sleep for two minutes and BANG, BANG we were behind! We battled on though and dug out a point. I remember watching Wycombe's manager Gareth Ainsworth for many years as a skilful and cultured goal scoring forward who was still playing up to the age of about 39 and I used to wish that he could have played for us. I cannot believe that as a manager he uses such 'Ugly' football tactics as we saw last night. :ooh::ooh::whack:The constant hoofing of the ball up into the air was awful to watch and is not the way I would want my team to play. Coley said the same in his post match video on the fishy site. Some people would say that is effective and all that really matters is getting three points at the end of the match! I can understand that being the view of a manager and players who get paid by results but it is not what I want to watch as a paying customer. Buzza and his helpers did a super job in getting the pitch fit in spite of the rain and the 'disappearing grass' which is beginning to look a bit thin! I think we have had the pitch relaid and reseeded three summers in succession now and I reckon that it should be left to grow thicker this summer and only have minimal remedial work done on it to repair and reseed the worst areas. The roots need to be allowed to thicken up into the sub soil and to build a thicker and stronger weave that will stand up to the winter weather better next season.:alright::theband::bow8::bow8::bow8: We should have won and earned three points last night....... but we were not allowed to by poor refereeing and by awful tactics employed by last nights opponents.:cursing::angry: We must .... KEEP THE FAITH:theband: Trust in Coley and Jimmy's belief that 'Football' will win through... ON STANLEY ON:wave8::signbeer: |

Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
When considering the attributes required by a good league 2 striker, the following assets are surely paramount.
1. A master of deception. 2. The strength of an Ox. 3. More slippery than an eel. 4. As deadly as a King Cobra. For all of the above, read Adebeyo Akinfenwa, a.k.a. - 'The Beast' As his roly-poly frame waddles at walking pace across the field, lapping up the 'Who ate all the pies?' derision coming from opposition fans, he flatters to deceive (1) When in possession of the ball, strong men just bounce off him (2) Defenders tasked with marking him at corners, throw-ins etc. just can't seem to get a grip on his Billy Bunter frame (3) Turn your back on him for a second & he strikes with the speed of a rattlesnake (4) I'm sure that, following his release by the Wombles, a salary based on a cow pie (a la 'Desperate Dan') bonus scheme, would have tempted our nemesis to waddle round in a Stanley shirt causing mayhem in the oppositions penalty box. Love him or loathe him, you can't help but admire The Incredible Hulk! |
Re: Wycombe Wanderers Thread
Doubt very much if stanley could ever acquire the beast, he seems to favour sides playing down south.

I like him immensely. It would be a very dull world without the likes of Akin-bloody-fenwa.
Speaking of unusual specimens, last year an opposing team turned up with someone with an infeasibly massive throw in. Was that Barnet? |

Wycombe tweeted that 7% of his entire Football League goal haul have come against Stanley. Madness.

As much as we may dislike him for the way he always seems to score against us, it must be said that he provides great entertainment value, even when he is accused of 'eating all the pies', he seems to take it in good grace! Mind you, he must be used to that by now! BTW, anyone know where we can see recorded highlights? |

A strange thing happened today. I got a text from Vodafone saying I could have Sky Sports 1&2 on my phone for free. Most strange, but I watched Anderson v Taylor on it earlier so clearly it wasn't spam.
My deep routed anti-Sky views are now compromised. |
