Un-buzz them there Bees !...a Barnet thread !

" After throwing away 2 points on Tuesday night at the Oystondome, this promises to be another challenging match, on a dodgy pitch, this time with 2,000 Accy fans who actually want to be there.
With Barnet's injury list getting longer this promises to be a difficult encounter for an out of sorts Barnet and with Accrington's pitch taking a beating with the weather recently, those football purists looking for a prime example of the beautiful game, can expect to be disappointed.".

So quoth a lad posting on the Barnet Fan's Forum !. Did you notice his somewhat optimistic forecast ....2000 Accy Fans. who actually want to be there !. Does he know something that we don't?...I do hope that his estimate is an accurate one and that the Crown is overflowing !...I am certainly one who 'wants to be there ', and one who is hoping that Mother Nature doesn't scupper Buzzer's efforts to produce a playable surface !

I'm looking forward to 'a prime example of the beautiful game ', and not leaving the Crown at all disappointed !.

Just need another 1999 to come along and make my day !.

Heavy rain forecast overnight, but rest of Saturday should be dry.
Good job Somerset doesn't live in Accy - the sweat pouring off his brow at the prospect of a waterlogged pitch would only add to Buzzer's battle.

Plenty of cover and competition for places........Don't you just love it, something we haven't had since the conference days when we had 15 midfielders at one stage.....Should make a big difference for the remainder of the season...

Aaaahh! The 'good old days' when we had a plethora of midfield players.........
If we had those numbers now we could play a 4-15-4 formation and then both Clarke and McConville would get picked!:130:

I know that the 'MainStandecrs' ( Apart from the few who post on our Forum that is !) are by and large a rather stoical bunch.......however one of these described equated McCartan's efforts against the Chairboys with one ' running about like a headless chicken '.

Is this description a fair one ?...or has Shay not yet gained full match fitness as some would report !.

Bizarre as it may seem I think I would start with Clark, Clare and McCartan. Just on the basis that I think all three need another game in the team to show what they can do. Put Seany back in next game based on who does best today.

ASFC: Rodak, Pearson, Hughes, Rodgers, Donacien; Clare, Brown, Conneely, McConville, McCartan, Kee

Super Matty Pearson saves the day. Well played from the colossus!
Rode our luck at the end. They were a different team after the goal, and we became progressively more careless and unable to get any sort of control in midfield.
A scrappy match, lots of diving from us, a poor ref.
I thought Clare had a good game, Clark had his moments when he came on(did he hit the post?), Seany was pretty quiet but his crossing caused them lots of problems.
McCartan, apart from his goal, was too ineffective. Goalie a bit more solid than normal.
The rest did ok ish.

Hughes saved us as well a few minutes earlier. Yep Clark hit the post for us. A what could be at the end of the season vital hard fought 3 points.

We were a better attacking side after Clark came on, anyone who thinks different needs glasses, Mcarten scored a cracking free kick thank god did little else. not as good a display by far as Tuesday but got the 3 Pts. Thought our defence and keeper had a good afternoon,

Agree that Clark give us more of an attacking edge, but I think we missed Clare in midfield. Maybe McCartan coming off instead might have worked better in the last 15 mins?

Big win. Dug in well and got that little element of luck we've needed. Hughesy and Matty were behemoths today. Five unbeaten. Long reign King Coley. ;)

Re: Un-buzz them there Bees !...a Barnet thread !

It was a great effort even though it was very scrappy at times. The pitch is atrocious at the moment. I thought MOM today should have gone to Rodgers overall. He was outstanding at times. Matty P was his usual warrior self and effective, I think everybody put a shift in. I noticed that we reverted to playing Billy up front on his own again. Why have we not played Edwards more often as he always impressed when he comes on. The Don is a much better player when playing further forward. Today he was very average. A 1-0 win was a good result as a clean sheet can be the difference at the end of the season. Lets keep it going against Exeter. I hope there will be a game to play against Leyton Orient on the 14th. Over all we seem to be getting our form back a little and the confidence is building. I would like to offer sincere condolences to the Winnard family at this difficult time.

Were we watching the same game? Ok, it wasn't pretty but we ground out a win against the dirty tactics of a typical Barnet side - Martin Allen may not be the manager any more but they're still his players & playing his way - agree about Matty P. - bless him, I bet he's black & blue tonight

Re: Un-buzz them there Bees !...a Barnet thread !

First of all condolences to Dean Winnard and his family after the tragic loss of Dean's brother.
Puts the game of football into perspective really......

......To the match v Barnet which we won 1-0......
Well we deserved the victory and the three points gained was based on a very had working performance by our lads.:theband:

Buzza did an amazing job on the pitch after all the rain yesterday afternoon and into the night! The lad is a magician and deserves our total respect!
:worthy::worthy::worthy:

Inevitably the pitch did make it difficult to play our usual passing game but the lads persisted and after a quiet start we gradually took control of matters and could easily have gone in at half time a goal up on the balance of play.
The match really came to life after half time though and we deserved the goal advantage after Billy won the free kick just outside their box. Shay has learned that free kicks don't need to be blasted and that accurate placement is the key since the referees started to use the aerosol to ensure that the defenders retired a full 10 yards! From the Clayton end looking down the length of the pitch we could see perfectly how the wall lined up as well as they could but Shay had spotted the bottom left corner weakness and fully exploited it to perfection with a swerving and dipping kick over the wall! I feel that we could have capitalised on the lead by scoring again but it was not to be and a nervous last ten minutes beckoned!.......
:mosher:
To their credit Barnet tried hard to get back on terms and we retreated somewhat to defend on the edge of our penalty box but with some determined goal keeping from young Marek and heroic clearances form Hughes and Pearson we held out magnificently.
The singing and support form the Clayton end was simply outstanding in the last thirty minutes and I am sure that all of our players were lifted by our vocal support. Once again the support played like a TWELFTH MAN!
:theband::wave8::s_gupjump:s_gupjump

Some odd refereeing decisions again and I wanted to shout out to him..... "Take off your BEER GOGGLES Ref!"
Any how the result worked out OK in the end and I thought that we deserved our victory. For me Matty Pearson was our MOM as he once again played like 'Braveheart the SPARTAN'. Hughes was pushing him close though for his similar superb defensive play.
ON STANLEY ON.....:theband:
as we start to climb the table to security......
COME ON YOU REDS
:wave8::signbeer::drink:

Re: Un-buzz them there Bees !...a Barnet thread !

Not a game for the faint hearted.
Comparing the teams was like matching a Great Dane against a Jack Russell.
Barnet's team of men against a Stanley boys team, so great was the difference in stature.
Thank goodness our 'boys' displayed all the characteristics needed by a terrier. Tenacity, aggression, guts & a never-give-in attitude.
The first half was a lesson in mediocrity, with Stanley misfiring on all cylinders & Barnet looking fast & dangerous.
At half time, I thought we'd be lucky to scrape a 0-0 draw from the game.
Had Barnet scored first, I think we would have been looking at another defeat. But then came McCarten's superbly taken goal which changed the game.
Yes, over 90 minutes he was poor, but who cares? He won us the game.
After the goal, it was a rear-guard action with our defenders literally putting their bodies on the line to protect our goal from a swarm of angry bees, determined to sting us where it hurts.
Rodak stood firm, Pearson & Hughes were immense, and Rodgers deserves special mention for marking the giant Akinde so effectively.
No display of artistry, but without doubt the hardest won three points we will earn this season.

Re: Un-buzz them there Bees !...a Barnet thread !

So ,like my thread-starter earnestly requested, the Bees were un-buzzed ( if that term is actually correct !).

There were a few Barnet Drones on view, and dirty ones at that !...but the Workers who got the honey were the industrious and tireless Reds !.

Also we had our very own Buzzer who again deserves endless praise for the efforts he must have made since Tuesday nights assault on the Crown's pitch to ensure that it was playable this afternoon.

If ì appear to be Bees-Waxing lyrical tonight it's purely because our team were better than Barnet... the Defence assured us of a clean sheet.....Three vital points were added to the tally...and there was no sting in the tail for yours truly !.

All in all...an afternoon fit for a Queen !.

ps...Matty Pearson really is the Bees Knees !.

pps......On a more serious note my kindest thoughts go out to FA19 , Mrs FA19, and Dean
tonight, following the news of their sad loss.

While not at our best yesterday, thought we deserved to win.
Did we not hit the woodwork 3 times?
Can't remember them having a shot on target outside opening 5 and last 10 minutes when they went sit or bust.
FWIW thought Clarke should have started instead of Clare and can't understand why Edwards wasn't brought on as an out ball option with 10 to go.

Rodak seems to gone uncommented on but his presence has coincided with our good run.
Cant recall him dropping any clangers and always appears calm.

I thought the goalie would get MOM. but happy with Matt just the same. I thought the pitch was tricky to say the least , both sides slipping. I thought we would have used all 3 subs too as I feel sure the players legs would be aching , it be like running in sand. However a good three points well deserved.

We've added a few good players to the squad lately, but Coley seems reluctant to let any of them get a chance & rarely makes more than 1 substitution per game.
With the exception of Beckles, absent through suspension, yesterdays team was his usual go-to starting 11.
The first half illustrated the deficiencies that have plagued us all season. Barnet controlled midfield & we rarely got out of our own half.
The few occasions we were effective were breaks down the wing, either from Donacien or Clare but when this did happen, no one followed up from midfield to help.
Barnet, on the other hand, attacked as a unit & always had men running into space to make themselves available for the next pass.
Noor Husin is supposed to be a creative midfielder, yet despite scoring on his debut, has barely featured.
Edwards has also been impressive when I've seen him play, but rarely gets a look in.
As for the new Portuguese lad, the season's going to be over before we ever see him play a game.
Perhaps the fact that our 'mom' award ALWAYS goes to a defender, says everything!

Whatever happened to your ' Bertie Wooster' style of posting which we struggling members of the Hoi polloi used to stand in awe of , and read with a slight tug of the forelock?.
This somewhat prosaic offering, if I might have the temerity to mention it, falls a little short.
Not in content mind you, but in it's rather matter-of-fact presentation !.

AND I said "Goalie a bit more solid than normal."

Lord Stiff - first 15 mins we were poor, but after that my memory tells me we were the better team, finishing the first half strongly. The ball was pinging around their area and we had a few headed chances. I do recall at half time we had had more possession and more attempts on goal. I thought Barnet were poor until we scored. So poor that I felt entirely relaxed that one goal would be enough.
Obviously I wasn't relaxed in the closing stages - ones underclothes looked like the insides of a peppered steak pie when I got home.

Good to see Beckles in the Clayton end yesterday.... not sure about him not wearing a pair of socks though. Is that how the kids dress these days?

[QUOTE=Lord Didsbury;1189134]AND I said "Goalie a bit more solid than normal."

This implies goalie normally a bit flaky. I'm saying I think he's had a good run over last half a dozen or so games.

So poor that I felt entirely relaxed that one goal would be enough.

Lord D old chap. Agree the stats confirm your overall feeling about our superiority, although I cannot agree the Bees were poor.
They looked fast, slick and had several attempts which required last ditch goal line clearances from our defence.
We were much more effective in the second half, especially after Clark came on.
My point is that, in the main, our victories or draws are thanks to our superb defence who perform heroics every week.
Yesterday's win was down to another backs-to-the-wall defensive display & one superbly hit free-kick.
Let's not allow yesterdays victory to disguise the shortcomings we still appear to suffer in midfield.

Lord Stiff - "The first half illustrated the deficiencies that have plagued us all season. Barnet controlled midfield & we rarely got out of our own half."

i suggest that in order to jog your memory you head swiftly over to twitter and see from the official tweets just how on top we were in that first half. Also have a read of the Barnet forum: OnlyBarnet.com - Barnet FC Fans Forum ? View topic - Accrington (Bog) The Pitch Imperfect Match Thread . Their fans clearly agree with me as to how rubbish they were and that we deserved the win.

We have, apart from one or two matches, been the better team all season. Yes, we still have our faults.

Lord D. I stand by my opinion highlighted in your previous thread, which referred to our performance in the first half, when they had us under some early pressure & we were kicking panicky aimless balls back to their midfield players.
I have read the reports on the Bee's fans forum and, to be honest, I think they are no different to what our own response would have been, had the scoreline been reversed. 'We were rubbish!'....'Sack the manager!' etc.
One of their fans did post this - 'While we were rubbish yesterday, they scored from a direct free-kick and they had 3 goal-line clearances at the other end which might have ended up in the back of the net on another day'.
Whilst their own fans are obviously disappointed with the result, I can't agree that they were a poor side. They sit mid-table eight points above us.
Fully agree we deserved the win & with your last sentiments.

I certainly didn't regard em as poor, thought defo a mid table side, we make sides look better by playing 1 up front at home, sadly the penny is unlikely ever to drop with the Super one.

Maybe Matty's rehearsing Michael Palin's role for a re-release of "A Fish Called Wanda"?

Please remember that we are not all twits. And may I respectfully suggest that official tweets may possibly be a little less than objective.
