The all new, improved, Newport match day thread.

Righto, who's going? (I'd love to but the London Marathon awaits). Want plenty of expert analysis and general insights please.

Got to be an unchanged team. (Usual caveat applies that I think we'd do better with Husin in midfield etc).

Feel extremely nervous on this one. Massive banana skin awaits. Win it and god knows where we will be tonight. Lose or draw and it's curtains.

Cum on ye reeeeds.

Re: The all new, improved, Newport match day thread.

both sides need to win. big advantage for them playing on their beach but we always seem to get a result when we don,t expect us to get one. everything crossed both for stanley and pools this afternoon.

I'm not sure about Husin on this one, Their pitch means it will probably be a scrappy game and not the one touch we like!

Hope we can get an early goal and zap some comfidence out of Newport and their fans!

I hope we can do a "Plymouth" on em, but dont think that will be the case, reckon Newports life depends on this game.

agree, we should go for it straight away. after being thrashed last week an early goal might see heads dropping a bit for them.

mark haywood to referee our game. there seems to be two of em. hope we get the grey haired one and not the other who we,ve had issues with in the past. spare a thought for pools they,ve been kettled today.

Hope Mr Coleman makes good use of our subs today, very often it is the "fresh legs" that make the difference in a game.

With there pitch it won't be a passing game, plenty of hoofball to be expected

Re: The all new, improved, Newport match day thread.

We can get three points today if we play our game. We need to get the first goal. if we can do that we can go on to a 5 nil win. we are due to rout them. we need the points as much and more than them. we need the goal difference.

Go with Baldy on this.
Clean sheet,DONT turn over possession in our own half, contest the second balls and tuck the chances away when they come --- It wont be pretty !!!

Reds XI: Rodak, Rodgers, Beckles, Hughes, Donacien, Clark, Pearson, Husin, McConville, McCartan, Kee
Sean McConville captains the Reds

Re: The all new, improved, Newport match day thread.

Stanley subs: Brown, Gornell, Boco, Shaw, Chapman, Edwards
#asfc #newportcounty

Only 6 subs surely we have enough for players to fill the 7 bench spots

Carlisle and Luton losing, Wycombe just shot up about 10 places in the table cos they are beating Donny Rovers.

Amazing. Wycombe just dropped back another 5 places.

Cambridge losing.

Stevenage currently in 8th place if that brings consolation to anyone. Other results generally bad.

Shame, but cracking finish to the season. Still got last match to cheer em on and then a big game v Stevenage. At least the season didn't die in Feb.

Re: The all new, improved, Newport match day thread.

I am afraid the dream is over, well done boys for the 15 games unbeaten. We left ourselves too much to do. Newport have been a bogey team for us again this season. Perhaps the club's management can sort out a proper and fair pricing policy for next season. Who is going to pay £20 to watch us play Luton next week?

AccyMad 22-04-2017 16:10

Well I'll be there as usual next week Chris - the lads deserve a decent crowd & atmosphere after the run they've just been on, one bad result at Newport doesn't change that

I will be there as well and you are right the lads do deserve a great reception. They have done everybody proud. I was aiming my remarks at the walk ons as I have said in another post the friends I had coming to the Luton game will not bother now as there is nothing to play for in reality. £20 maybe a bit too much for this game now.

Our season isn't over yet. We still have the stop Stevenage from making the play offs mission to complete.:stop:

Also - There''s still all to play for in player of the season. Beckles v Matty v Seany most likely.

Footy is ace and I'm looking forward to Luton already.

Well, seeing that the player of the season voting was done at last week's game I'd say that's pretty much been put to bed - just remains for the results to be revealed at next week's presentation extravaganza - at least to those of us who can afford to go, the rest of us mere mortals will have to rely on getting the information second hand

But yeah, I too am looking forward to the Luton game - same result as our FA Cup game will do just fine thanks :D

Just back.
First of all congratulations Mr and Mrs Conneely and welcome Samuel.
We had our chances especially first half and their keeper pulled off two great saves from Clark and Kee.
Need to see the goal back again but Hughes was starting to get turned too regularly and he got caught out big style.
Samuel up front was a constant thorn - ugly at times but effective.
Supporters need to turn up next week and realise that where the club was at the turn of the year to play off hopefuls was some turn around.
Husin's got a shiner - took a naughty elbow and kid was lucky to stay on.

A bit previous to have judged so early. But that's the modern way.

Lord Stiffupperlip 22-04-2017 21:19

Re: The all new, improved, Newport match day thread.

I knew that bleedin BBC article that Chimer posted about us would prove our downfall!
After beating most of the teams in the current play-off spots, it's ironic that our unbeaten run would end at lowly Newport.
Am I right in thinking they're the only club to do the double over us this season?
Anyway, big respect to the brave Welshmen who've battled their way out of the relegation spot, especially after getting a thorough thrashing the week before.
