Apart from tripping over an exercise bike and cutting his foot then spending rest of season out injured yes he was a good player

Great news tho' I guess if a good enough bid comes in for any of these we can still loose them.

So we only need a goalkeeper and an attacking midfielder and we've a cracking first XI.

Any word on the highly rated Ogle?

Great start.
Would be even better if JC manages to retain the services of Rodak, Rodgers & Edwards for another season.

15 potentially staying - way more than we've had in quite a few years, & at least if any of them do get lured away we will get paid for them- really hope though that they all do stay & with a couple of additions the world could be our lobster next season :)

This has to be first season, in my life time anyway that nobody's turned a contract down to join another club

My thought too, Inspector. Is he still a 'yoof' player, anyone?
Otherwise excellent start to next season.

I am in general happy with the list so far. I do wonder what youngsters like Nathan webb must think when they came through the academy and got about 30 mins on the field with the first team against Crew. What sort of message does that send out to academy players? last season we had two good players who never got a look in. I understand they may not be good enough to go into the first team, but surely if the manager and coach think that then why not send them out on loan. This is the bit of the academy promotions that does seem to let the young players down.

You're wrong, if they aren't good enough why keep them even on small wages?!

Webby hardly do anything hardly when he was at Rammy on loan so how long do we keep a player and hope he turns good?

I'd like to know Coleys ratio of his released players, Who actually went onto better things...

Re: Retained Players....

I'm sure Coleman will have some idea of what he's doing when he tries to balance the here and now with the future.

I got frustrated that Boco didn't get a game. had I been the manager I'd have dropped McCarten long ago and had Romy as a regular. Just as well I'm not the gaffer eh? Romy sat on the subs Bench not playing for games on end was a good insurance policy...even though we didn't need it.

Coleman has loads of headaches to contend with. Who gets a game, who does he want to coach, who does he want to put out on loan. I would imagine it's of much harder job than any of us can imagine. There will be collateral damage along the way - whatever way he balances things.

What's Seamus Conneelly's best position these days?
I saw a fair bit of him in the League of Ireland and he seemed to suffer from having to alternate between playing as a holding midfielder or at right full.
Glad to see he's doing well at any rate.

Twenty Eight 07-07-2017 11:48

Re: Retained Players....

Seamus was always a full back in my eyes from the early days mate. He was very unlucky not to break through at Sheffield United.
These days he is a holding midfielder without a doubt with a defensive mentality but he's getting better at getting forward and I'm hoping for a goals return this season.

Thanks.
That'd be my impression too. He got occasional criticism from some fans at Rovers for passing sideways or back to the centre halves too often, and not getting the head up, but the general consensus was that he was a very solid, if unflashy, player.

he gets criticised by some fans at STANLEY as well for his limited range of passing at times. very average last season but much better the season before.

Still under contract are: Shay McCartan, Matty Pearson, Scott Brown, Aaron Chapman, Seamus Conneely, Billy Kee, Sean McConville, Terry Gornell and Ross Sykes.

Stanley have taken up one-year options on: Jordan Clark, Janoi Donacien, Brayden Shaw, Omar Beckles, Mark Hughes and Rommy Boco.

Even with 15 under contract, we have still lost almost a third......
