Stoke city at home please :) or any home tie

AccyMad 09-08-2017 21:52

Re: Carabao Cup 2nd Rd. Who do you want?

Not fussy, any of those at home will do :) or, if we are drawn away anyone except Leeds! :(

Re: Carabao Cup 2nd Rd. Who do you want?

Assume these will all be evening, mid-week games.
The money-match would be Burnley at home, ensuring a big attendance.
What's the betting we get bleedin Middlesboro again!

Re: Carabao Cup 2nd Rd. Who do you want?

Blackburn at home, then we will have beaten ALL local rivals.

MikeA 10-08-2017 07:22

Re: Carabao Cup 2nd Rd. Who do you want?

Have Grimsby ended up being potential seeds just because their game was postponed?

accybeme 10-08-2017 07:34

Re: Carabao Cup 2nd Rd. Who do you want?

West Ham away please: their ground is not ready due to stadium used for world athletics

West Ham will have to pay compensation to their opponents if they are drawn at home and the tie is switched.

Home and away clubs in the EFL Cup split gate receipts equally

Blackburn are not seeded so we can't play them.

Newcastle likely to bring as many, if not more, than Burnley! The latter' fans wouldn't want to risk watching another 'shock' result at The Wham.;)

Re: Carabao Cup 2nd Rd. Who do you want?

It's not just West Ham but Newport too who have permission to play their 2nd round tie away if they are drawn at home. So, to avoid a West Ham and Newport clash, the 2nd round is regionalised, with Newport in the north and West Ham in the south.

Numbers for the northern half of the draw are:

North seeds

1. Aston Villa
2. Burnley
3. Derby County / Grimsby Town
4. Huddersfield Town
5. Hull City
6. Leeds United
7. Leicester City
8. Middlesbrough
9. Newcastle United
10. Sheffield Wednesday
11. Stoke City
12. West Bromwich Albion
13. Sunderland / Barnsley *

North non-seeds

14. Bury / Barnsley*
15. Accrington Stanley
16. Blackburn Rovers
17. Bolton Wanderers
18. Carlisle United
19. Doncaster Rovers
20. Newport County
21. Nottingham Forest
22. Rochdale
23. Rotherham United
24. Scunthorpe United
25. Sheffield United
26. Wigan Athletic

So there's going to be some lucky chuffers to get a day out at Newport's beach. We have a beach here in Nottingham city centre for those banned from Skegness and I swear there's more grass than at Newport then again there's always been a drug problem in Notts

Just looking at the draw (EFL Cup second round draw: Southampton to host Wolves - BBC Sport) there must be a good chance of it being televised.

would expect at least 1,000 - be quite the adventure for their fans coming up to play against the famous accrington stanley

Don't know about 1000 Baggies fans but looking forward to seeing Frank Skinner & Adrian Chiles in the Sports Bar.
:D

Re: Carabao Cup 2nd Rd. Who do you want?

I shall be at this one, come hell or high water. Accrington people should come out for a game like this. We need a home support of at least 2000. We can do it. We are playing brilliant football so far. A great time to be a Stanley fan. Just hope it is not on the same night as the Rovers/Burnley match.

Re: Carabao Cup 2nd Rd. Who do you want?

Just had a peek on their fans forum, one or two good comments 'cracking draw' & 'two founder members playing each other for first time in 100 years' - a couple of others being pedantic & saying we're not founder members??!! There's the obligatory 'who are they' comment & one saying 'doesn't matter, they're so unimportant the draw is tagged onto last year's cup draw thread'
Time to show 'em exactly who we are & what we're capable of methinks :)

yes they do travel in big numbers despite the M6. expect over 1000 as they have never been to the wham. why we can,t get over 2000 of our own will be beyond me. always thought of em as a proper club with a proper manager without the need to appoint some foreign guy who has no idea of cup traditions in this country. expect it to be something like the burnley game last season with hopefully the same result.

don,t think it will be but it will be used as a reason for locals not to attend. same night or wife won,t let me out two nights a week or accy prices too high.

Re: Carabao Cup 2nd Rd. Who do you want?

Good draw against a good club.
They're at Burnley on the Saturday. Play it Monday night (to avoid the East Lancs derby) and they'll be tempted to stay two nights at the Travelodge. That should do for 'em.

Got everything crossed we play any night but Tuesday - come on football gods, be nice please :)

Re: Carabao Cup 2nd Rd. Who do you want?

Looking at the other fixtures, ours must be odds-on for televised coverage, which usually means moving the game to suit Sky.
David v Goliath
League 2 v Premiership
History & romance of two founder members coming together after 130 odd years.
(Stuff the pedants who disagree about that! Stanley still represents our town, just as the original Accrington FC did.)
This is one badge I'll be proudly adding to me bobble hat!
PS. For the record, we beat them 2-1 at home & drew 2-2 at their place in the inaugural 1888-89 season

Grimsby v Derby on telly. Rovers v Burnley the next night. Surely only a biblical plague of frogs will keep the good folk of Accy away from The Wham and a chance to see Stanley take on a Premier League squad at League 2 prices.
