COVENTRY Match Thread
Looks like big gate for Saturday Coventry report over 1300 tickets sold and to ask for additional tickets, hope we can at least match the away support
|
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
I hope we can put up a better show than we did against Luton. We need to be beating these teams if we are to be serious contenders for promotion. We can't afford many slip ups. Looking forward to the game on Saturday.
|
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Will be a much better show if 2 up front are played imho.
|
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
will be our highest gate this season and hope we cn match the occasion as looking at their goal difference seem a very tight side. bit of a culture shock for em after the ricoh arena.
|
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Gutted to be missing this one - on night shifts :( need to stamp our authority on the game from the off. With Coventry being the best defence statistically, but not scoring loads, this could turn into a real arm wrestle of a game. How Hughes, Nolan and billy perform key to getting a result I think.
|
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Just hope its not just Billy no mates up front

Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Any guesses on the starting XI after last weeks mis-mash of formation and personnel?
How about McCleod in the McCarten role with Billy up front? |

Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Sean! 1-0! :)
|
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Nearly 2-0 with Jackson just going wide, lots of chances either end.

Fan -#$%%#$&%% -tastic. 'Onya Stanley.
|
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Well done, Stanley.
Just hope Jackson's injury isn't serious. |
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Listening to the game on BBC C&W, it seems that Chapman had a brilliant match. :)
|
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Yup, Chapman was the stand out player today. Immensely difficult last 30 mins when we lost our shape and ability to keep the ball and they transformed from a pub team into Brazil circa 1970.
Who's off to Stevenage then? |
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Superb 3pts first half stanley were immense, second half we gave the ball away too much i thought, Chapman had a stormer, so did Everton, made a big difference i thought playing 2 up front. well done red men.

Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Kee had a nightmare. Everything went wrong for the poor lad today.

Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Great result, I think one win from playing these last two top teams is probably just about par for our promotion ambitions. Stevenage sound like they were thrashed today, hope we can carry some momentum through to Tuesday
|
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Chapman had a good game which will have boosted his confidence. I can't understand why the throw ins were aimed at Billy who again was surrounded by big defenders, There were other options. We played well and deserved to go in at least two up. we were unlucky, Coventry were quick but did not make their chances count. They had some good players who will be disappointed they didn't get something from the game. If we can beat good teams like Coventry we should be at the top in promotion terms. When we see the dismal performance against Luton we are right to be very annoyed as we have the team that can get promotion. But well done for today's result. another 3 points. We are 4th, Luton won 7 -1. we can keep up and pass them. It is going to be a challenging season.

If he played like that every week there would be no issue. Hope he can maintain it. Would like nothing more than to see him flourish here. |
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Mom close between chappers and big Ben, I'd give it to Ben given it was his first game back. A great 3 points we had to work hard under pressure for the entire 2nd half.

Are there any retired mill workers out there who can lip read and give a summary of what Professor Coleman said about the match?
It's yet another that sounds like he's not in the same room as the interviewer. |

I struggled on full volume to hear some of it.:(

Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Fantastic game, spoiled by an referee who did not know what he was doing! Definitely a game of 2 halves, first half Stanley's but defo 2nd half Coventry. Like the Inspector above, i agree with him, Chapman definitely MOTM, he kept Stanley in the game with some excellent saves. I also agree, that if he wants to keep the place, he must play to that standard every week. All I can add is Cart on Stanley

Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
What a great game of football we witnessed today.
Balmy Autumn weather & almost a full stadium. At half. time I thought my prediction of a 2-1 victory was unduly pessimistic, so well did we play. We could & should have been a couple of goals to the good by half time. Then Coventry came out with all guns blazing & we went to sleep. If it wasn't for some simply breathtaking saves from Chappers, the scoreline could have been so different. Got to agree he was definitely m.o.m. Never been so relieved to hear the final whistle after the closest shave since Sweeney Todd. Perhaps the most vital & important 3 points we'll earn this season. Well done boys! |

Ta very much MikeA. me missus buggered the recording up tonight.;)
|
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Mine didn't record either tonight Cashy, for some reason our series record had moved from the Saturday night program to the repeat showing on Sunday morning??
|
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Mine missed too, then I thought I'd set it to do tomorrow morning, but it actually picked it up on +1.
Best someone apologises to Mrs Cashy :D |
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Massive 3 points today after last weeks disappointment, sorry I missed this one sounded like a great performance.
|
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
One thing that puzzles me at the Wham is the ludicrous overwatering of the pitch.
The sprinklers are on full blast for 20 minutes before kick-off & virtually throughout half time. Even after heavy rain all week it still gets another soaking. Today there were several near catastrophes with defenders slipping at vital moments. Perhaps when we concede a goal through this folly the idiot in charge will give it a rest. |
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Our defense was outstanding in the second half. They were to a man fantastic. I never thought they would be able to hold out against all the Coventry pressure for over 35 minutes. What a performance!
|
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Gotta give some credit to the Coventry fans as well, 1500 of them and it would seem they were well behaved and made a big effort to drink the bar dry. On their forum it seems they were impressed with the double decker bus bar (im sure i got laughed at for suggesting that a few years back), and our humble surroundings. They were also impressed with the noise offered by a small home crowd. Makes a refreshing change to get a billy big nuts club who appreciate tiny tinpottery and the efforts our club make to compete

Some of his superb last ditch tackles kept us in the game. But my lasting memory will be when Nazon launched an exocet missile toward our goal from 30 yards. The words 'it's in!' were forming on my lips when, through a crowd of players the sight of what appeared to be horizontal yellow banana flew across the goal to deny them a certain goal. All hail Chapman! |
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
I think 76 minutes must be a new record for defending a one goal lead :D

And talking of flying bananas, whatever happened to goalies wearing contrasting colours? Was yesterday the second time this season that an away keeper has been allowed to wear red at The Wham? |
Re: COVENTRY Match Thread
Outback Ozzie - are you joking about the ref? He had a great game, let the match flow, got most decisions spot on.
