Accrington Stanley Historical Society

We havent got one. We should have.

Ive deliberated for months whether to try to set one up, is it worth it, is there any interest etc etc. I came to the conclusion that whether there was a great deal, or very little interest now doesnt matter. What matters is the compilation and preservation of the history of our club.

So with that in mind I am going to do it. I'm currently taking names of people who would be interested in getting involved. Initial involvement will surround the formation and the direction of the club - what our goals and ideals are. Future participation will be, amongst other things the compilation of categoric and absolute fact. For example, how many games did Paul Mullin play? Well that depends on whether you got Lancashire Cup games. In recent years theyve been less than reserve team fixtures with A Trialist featuring and the stadium manager being manager of the team for the day. In non league days it was a 1st team fixture ...

So, if anybody would like to know more please feel free to ask questions on here or the memories page on facebook. If you would like to offer your services please do so here or by PM etc.

At the moment this is not a club sanctioned move, but once we have something concrete to move with I will seek officialdom.

Hi Macca,
great that you are taking on the task of preserving the history of ASFC, I can think of no-one better to do it, although to you, it is not a 'task' as such, more of a hobby with positive results.
I would love to help out, but, as one who cannot even remember the result of the last game I attended, I can't see me as being much use to your research!!

Best of luck in your efforts,
Gerard

Thanks for the kind words Gerard.

We've now got a cast assembled ready to start moving forwards with this, and getting giddy they're planning projects for the next decade!

Last call if anyone else has any interest

Ps ... we'll come up with a better name!

Hi. My grandfather played for Accrington Stanley around 1914 to 1916, I think. Are there any archives where I could find information about him as a player?
