Crewe Alex Thread
Crewe for me are a very strange side this season, they can absolutely annihilate teams occasionally, then can be utter crap. yeh never know which side will turn up! we will certainly have to treat em with utmost respect tonight. so up and at em, and please make our goal difference better, Luton are catchable imho.
|
Re: Crewe Alex Thread
That is what worries me Cashy.
We can also destroy teams, but then fall apart against teams that we are expected to beat. I know that anybody can beat anybody, but almost 30 games in, the table should be telling a story. There is nothing I hate more than playing a team at home, that are on a poor run... especially tonight  If we are to be promoted, these are the games we must win and do so convincingly :) :) :) :) |

Re: Crewe Alex Thread
Agree joe, but after our last 2 results i'm thinking our lads have learnt the score, I aint seen a better side than Luton in Div2 this season, but i honestly think its now possible to catch em, will be very hard i know, if we can win our game in hand and go down yon and win, then it is possible, fingers crossed.

Re: Crewe Alex Thread
Crewe will be desperate to get something tonight. We really need to get ahead early on, pressure and hassle Crewe as soon as they touch the ball and put the result beyond doubt before 60 mins are up. Otherwise could be a nerve wracking and frustrating end to the game.
Jackson will be key tonight - against Swindon he tormented the defence and got them spinning in circles trying to keep up with him. Same again tonight please!! |

Personally, I would start the same 11 that played so well at Coventry on Saturday. If Sean Mc is fit to play, put him on the bench in case needed. How can Coleman drop anyone from Saturdays team?

Accrington Stanley vs Crewe Alexandra
Chesterfield vs Cambridge United Colchester United vs Coventry City Forest Green Rovers vs Stevenage Lincoln City vs Cheltenham Town Luton Town vs Crawley Town Mansfield Town vs Newport County Notts County vs Carlisle United Port Vale vs Exeter City - Match postponed - Waterlogged Pitch Wycombe Wanderers vs Swindon Town Yeovil Town vs Barnet Obviously the only result that matters is Stanley picking up 3 points but some interesting fixtures involving the other top teams too. Hopefully in form Crawley can stop Luton from winning, and wycombe vs swindon ends in a draw. |

Re: Crewe Alex Thread
Coley calls on fans
John Coleman has urged supporters to create another big atmosphere this evening to help carry his side over the line in another vital League Two fixture. Stanley face Crewe at the Wham Stadium, after playing in front of a record crowd of over 28,000 at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday, however it was the 513 travelling fans who made themselves heard. Coleman’s thanked those fans for their support and called on them make it another loud one when the Reds return to their home turf tonight. “Saturday was a really good occasion,” he said. “There will be a lot of talk about it being a record crowd for League Two, but I thought that our fans were magnificent – forget the numbers, for passion alone they were brilliant. “When we go to a big stadium they very rarely get out sung, it doesn’t half make a difference to the players. They get behind us and they stay behind us. “We all hope they can replicate that noise and level of support again tonight. We’ve been doing OK at home and it’s crucial that we try and maintain that form until the end of the season. In tight games, they can often make that difference and be that 12th man.” |
Re: Crewe Alex Thread
Thats true and a great thing to put forward, if everyone involved with Stanley put the same effort in, things might just look up a bit.

Re: Crewe Alex Thread
Crewe played very well i thought couldn't have grumbled if they got a draw.We were nothing like sat, but 3 pts an onwards.Thought chappers kept us in it.
|
Re: Crewe Alex Thread
Awful game, awful atmosphere, didnt even want my winners hour 2 pints.
Great result though. Tempered slightly by Wycombe getting an injury time winner ... we were 4 points clear in 2nd til that went in |
Re: Crewe Alex Thread
The bloody Beast yet a bloody gain! aaarrggghhh.
Thought Crewe were very good tonight. Passed and moved really well. We were very ordinary BUT still fairly solid. Brown was my MOTM. We missed McConville. |
Re: Crewe Alex Thread
Agree 100% with last 3 points :)
:) :) :) |
Re: Crewe Alex Thread
After the heroics at the Ricoh, tonight was definitely a case of 'After the Lord Mayor's show!'
Don't know how Crewe are fighting relegation, they deserved at least a draw tonight. Never been so relieved to hear the final whistle, especially after 5 of the other top 7 all won their games. Jackson's goal stole the limelight, but the real heroes tonight were Chapman & the defence. Their rear-guard action in the second half saved us from what could easily have proved an embarrassing defeat. Respect to Crewe for a battling performance & their fans for bothering to turn up on a freezing night to witness the better team lose. |
Re: Crewe Alex Thread
Wow...2nd...pinch me please...
|
Re: Crewe Alex Thread
Ok, it wasn't too pretty but a win's a win & we'll take 'em any way they come! Crewe played well, particularly in 2nd half & I almost felt sorry for them at the final whistle as they probably did deserve something from the game.
Having said that if their team talk was anything akin to what their two pressmen behind us were saying i'm surprised they even came out onto the pitch, pessimistic wasn't in it - even before a ball had been kicked. They reminded me of Statler & Waldorf from the Muppet Show:) |

Great result though. think thats all you can say about last nights game. started on the front foot for once but after jacksons goal we seemed to sit back too much. 2 clean sheets on the trot a big plus. glad when the game finished but i expect a few similar ones before the season is over but if we take 3 points i,ll take it everytime. |
Re: Crewe Alex Thread
Have to say, after listening to J.C.s video on last nights match, He is spot on in my view,He said to win anything,as well as win well, yeh gotta win ugly, We sure did that last night, a couple of seasons back twas a match we woulda lost i reckon. If we have learnt that lesson then its a much better result than we thought imho.:)
|
Re: Crewe Alex Thread
its all about the 3 points at this time of the season. if you get a match to remember on top of it thats a bonus. agree we would have lost last night a few seasons ago but have become more streetwise than we were which is a good thing in the run in.
|
Re: Crewe Alex Thread
'Twas an important three points won last night :jimbo:against an unlucky Crewe side IMHO.
They deserved a draw at the very least and could easily have come away with a win. For a neutral watching the game last night it must have been a pleasure to watch as two teams came out trying to play football on a 'Zippy' pitch with the blades of grass having developed coats of wintery verglas. The air was very still and I think that it was pretty good conditions in which to try to play good football.:theband: The first half for me was fairly equal until we scored and the first time I noted the time thirty minutes had indeed flashed by. There is an old saying..."Time flies when you are enjoying yourself". I felt that we needed to up our game, in order to take more control from the off in the second half, but it was Crewe who stepped it up and they played some classy passing football right out of Coley's training/playing manual! They were unlucky not to score at least one goal. I think that one or two of our players looked a bit tired after their efforts on Saturday at Coventry. I was really impressed by their Number 20 Kirk and Number 30 Green who persistently 'sliced' their way through our midfield throughout the second half. It was a good job that Chapman was on his toes, that all four of our defenders were strong and that Crewe did not have a clinical finisher up front or the result would have been different. Yes all of our back four had good games as they were exposed to attacks far more than they should have been by our weaknesses in midfield. Clarke had a pretty good game again and it was his persistence and accurate final pass that set up Jackson for his well taken goal. :theband:Jackson was a bit inconsistent and he was frustrated by his pace being matched by the Crewe left back who was pretty quick in the chase. We definitely missed Sean Mac's attacking threat but also his defensive work that he employs in midfield. I think that we also missed the calmness and control that Seamus Coneely gives. In the last twenty minutes not only were Crewe passing their way through our midfield but also that we started to forget that we had midfield players because we reverted to some desperate 'Hoof ball' upfield to 'No one', as we desperately defended our one goal lead. It was resolute defence though and a display of the type of 'Character' that a team needs to win promotion.:jimbo: In other words......."To show the character to WIN even when you don't play well". I hope that Crewe can score some goals and that they stay up as it would be a shame for such a cultured footballing side to be relegated. Finally, a word on the sporting manner in which the match was played. Only twelve free kicks awarded. Nine against Stanley, (most of which came late in the match when we were desperately defending our narrow lead) and just three against Crewe.:mosher::mosher::mosher: A neutral would have certainly enjoyed the match as a feast of good football but for both sets of supporters it must have felt somewhat different........ Very nervy for the Stanley Faithful.....:bye2: Very Frustrating for the Crewe Followers.:clyde: ON STANLEY ON:theband: KEEP THE RUN GOING BOYS:jimbo::jimbo::jimbo: KEEP THE FAITH:wave8: ps Did anybody notice that there was a referee and two linesman watching the match? |
Re: Crewe Alex Thread
What i noticed is 2 matches on the run now, we have had decent officials, that must be some sort of record?:D

Re: Crewe Alex Thread
Well done Ref + Liners, even I commented on the good job they where doing.
|
Re: Crewe Alex Thread
I'm a bit surprised no-one has mentioned Billy Kee. I thought he looked quite jaded last night.
|
Re: Crewe Alex Thread
I heard coley's report and in general agreed with him. I still can't get my head around how seem to end up playing a lone striker up front at home. Billy looked jaded and so did Harvey. Perhaps if coley had made changes at half time we would have kept Crewe under more pressure. They soon worked out our game plan and countered it. Their league position does not do justice to how well they can play. But we are like that at times. We seemed to be disjointed last night. In the first half we had 2/3 decent chances where I thought Jackson should have scored. Maybe a touch unlucky. The defence did keep Crewe out just. Like others have said a season or two ago we would have lost a match like this. Looking ahead we have some expected tough games and some Banana skins so every game is a cup final for us. Winning is a must and clean sheets are a big bonus.

Re: Crewe Alex Thread
I’d be surprised if you can tell a footballer like Kee looks jaded, and surprised if his style of football would make him tired.
Brown, Nolan... they are the ones doing all the graft. Jackson, the Don, Clark... they do a lot of running but Billy mainly just stands there. He didn’t have his best game on Tuesday but it didn’t seem anything more than he was well covered by their defence. |

cannot agree with that i,m afraid. for me a really dull and forgettable game. a neutral would have been bored or frozen to death by it. we got 3 points which is what i wanted and forgot about the game by the time i reached the end of the M65. |

Re: Crewe Alex Thread
[FONT="Comic Sans MS"][SIZE="3"]Again, disagree. I am used to watching Billy try to hassle defenders as they try to clear the ball - and goalkeepers making clearances.
He did none of that on Tuesday. Running seemed to be an effort for him. think we all see matches differently. some enjoyed tuesday night and i imagine others like me found it boring. agree with your take on billy and glad we have a free week next week after the barnet game for all to re charge their batteries. |
Re: Crewe Alex Thread
Well I hope that our Super Billy Kee carries on........"Just standing there"....
Then he should bag another twelve goals before the end of the season and get another half a dozen assists in. He should then finish up as League Two Top Scorer with THIRTY goals to his name and he will have played a MASSIVE part in Accrington Stanley being PROMOTED!:jimbo::mosher: Yeah....Keep on Billy........."Just standing there!!!!":dummy: |
Re: Crewe Alex Thread
The tactic of "just standing there" is nothing new. In a recent article by Graeme Souness he described how he'd been out for some weeks with an injury and, when he was picked for the next game, Joe Fagan told him that he won't be able to cover the whole ground. "Just stand there", said Joe, "and let the ball come to you". ;)

Oh dear, I gather that it is a hanging offence to suggest Billy is anything but superhuman in everything he does.
Sorry all, but I’ve seen far better forwards than Billy over the years (sniffer Clarke, Lee Chapman) and believe me they also did sod all running about but they didn’t half stuff the ball in the old onion bag regularly. There’s nothing wrong with that. Honestly, there isn’t. |
Re: Crewe Alex Thread
Not a hanging offense at all, just a blind mans offense to me.
