Morecambe Match Thread 6th March 2018 (Rescheduled Match)

Let's hope for a WIN tonight against Morecambe and THREE more points in our drive towards success by the end of the season. Three points will make Jimmy Bell feel much better of that I am certain.
Morecambe have been playing better recently and had a great win at Wycombe which also did us a favour. That man with no hair who plays up front for Morecambe has been getting the goals but could I suggest tonight that our supporters don't sing about him or 'Bait' him as they usually do. Because just like 'Da Beast' of Wycombe he will surely score against us if we do give him some stick.
100% Singing and Cheering on our team is needed tonight so that we can be that extra 'TWELFTH MAN' that could be part of the winning formula.
It is a 'Cup Final' tonight as all our remaining games to come will be. So One Match at a time and focus on a WIN and THREE POINTS!

COME ON STANLEY:theband:
THREE MORE POINTS:mosher::mosher::mosher:

Fantastic result tonight. Gained at least two points against all other rivals. Well done, Stanley.
P.S. Nice to see Deano back playing 90 minutes, especially his gift of the penalty. Generous lad, just like his dad!

Firstly, not Da Beast of Wycombe.....
Second a great win and great results all round today.
Finally, thank you agent Dean!

Another ground out 3 points from a fairly even game. We had best chances first half. Kayden did well to once again get the wrong side of a defender and win a penalty. Morecambe pinned us in for a while second half but we stood firm. Then last 20 minutes we saw the game out well. This ability of seeing out games in the latter stages (remember late goals against morecambe and Barnet at home where costly 2 years ago) along with the kee/Jackson partnership are major cogs in us being one point of top spot!

Re: Morecambe Match Thread 6th March 2018 (Rescheduled Match)

It was a hard fought WIN tonight which earned us a very valuable THREE POINTS to put us right on the tail of the leaders! Another 'Clean Sheet' was a bonus and was well deserved too.:theband:
I thought that we played really well for the first half an hour and dominated midfield and the play generally. Scott Brown did particularly well early on
but we allowed Morecambe to get a bit of a hold on midfield in the closing stages of the half.
To their credit Morecambe lifted their game in the second half and pushed our midfield into deeper defensive positions. It was the cool influence from Captain Coneely which often disrupted Morecambe's play along with the strong and effective defending from Dunne, Hughes, Donacien and Johnson. Morecambe changed their personnel and kept up their momentum but we continued to defend well and still looked dangerous on the break. In the last ten minutes plus the added 6 minutes our boys worked really hard and kept the ball upfield most of the time and Morecambe were reduced to some desperate 'Hoof ball' but we resisted and held on for the well deserved victory.:theband::jimbo::jimbo::jimbo:
Deano did well for Morecambe, apart from the foul for the penalty, and I really think that they were better than quite a number of teams that I have seen in League Two this season. I think that they will survive the season.
STANLEY continue the progress up the League and with Notts County drawing tonight and Mansfield drawing at Lincoln we are in an even better position than this afternoon before the matches kicked off!
GREAT VOCAL SUPPORT FROM THE TERRACES TONIGHT.:theband::s_gupjump:s_gupjump:wave8:

Another CUP FINAL at Luton on Saturday and if we can win or even get a draw it will confirm our rightful place up there battling for promotion.

WELL DONE ALL THE STANLEY PLAYERS TONIGHT:mosher:

COME ON YOU REDS

Now now Exile!!!,to be fair I didn’t he would play, but I bet Billy and Kayden wish he hadn’t played!!!.
Great battle between him and Billy.
For Acci,it was a strange game, they worked their socks off and the game management was spot on,

Solid performance, really good at times in fact. Really could have done with a second goal though since Morecambe had a great 15-20 min spell when we had a charmed life.

I see Coleman of Sunderland doesn’t fancy being the second best Coleman in Div 1 next year and has quit.

To be perfectly honest thought the shrimps, whilst having spells of possession, never really threatened our goal.Roche made a few decent stops, but i expect him too, for a pensioner nearly, hes still a damn good keeper. on the serious side agree with lord d, Clark was my man of match, i said to lads coming out.

Can't believe you said that, whenever is it justified for an adult to assault a kid?? Even in the heat of competition??
I hope you mean the goalie is not used again, rather than the ball boy!!

Re: Morecambe Match Thread 6th March 2018 (Rescheduled Match)

The only person who deserved a slap was the moron who threw a beer can at Roche from the top of the Clayton End, hitting the top of the net before falling into the goal.
Fortunately, Roche was moving away from the goalmouth & neither he nor any of the officials saw it.
Had it hit him, our club might have been facing serious consequences tonight, instead of celebrating a hard-won victory.

I love the fact that even though this was a tight game, we are now 6 points clear of 3rd place after all the teams playing below us, drew. I hate 1-0 wins especially when we score in the first half, however, I will take a scrappy 1-0 on Saturday to put is all in dreamland, ie top of the league.

Yes, I think it’s ok to gently shove any little cretin, or even give them the Brian Clough slap round the head, if they think it’s ok to disrupt the game when they are supposedly there to keep it moving.

Accrington fans and the club are above that sort of behaviour. Don’t need idiots making us look unsporting.

Was the ball boy 8ncident than 5 minutes later when Big Baz went to retrieve the ball from the crowd and it was thrown towards the corner flag instead? That was hilarious!

I'm not a fan of cheating per sè but we do seem to excel at gamesmanship, and now we've got fans and ballboys joining in. Going up

interesting game and for me it flew bye. deserved the 3 points and another clean sheet. never really looked in danger of loosing the lead and got stronger as the second half ended. my only gripe was the corners. how is it every side that roll up at the wham look more dangerous than we do when they get them.

..if they think it’s ok to disrupt the game when they are supposedly there to keep it moving.

I may be unsporting but I don't mind it when we try and slow the game down in our favour. I'd be annoyed if our ball balls were assisting the opposition. Remember the Blackburn/Liverpool FA cup tie in the early 90's and the stick the ball girl got for assisting Liverpool in their injury-time equaliser?

We're not the worst. Westley prevented his own players from taking throw ins a couple of weeks ago.

Well, having just had a peek on the Shrimps forum I think some of their fans were watching a totally different game to me.
Apparently the concensus amongst them is that we dived, faked injuries & generally cheated our way to a win?? My, those grapes are more than a little sour :)
At the opposite end of the scale, there were two Morecambe fans sat next to us last night & at the end they congratulated us on the win, said we deserved it & they thought & hoped we get the promotion we deserve - what nice chaps :)

Can’t say I’m a massive fan of the person who chucked the ball towards the corner flag, but that was his/her personal choice.

The ball boy is different. Presumably he was there with the approval of the club and/or officials and should behave. Imagine if the 4th official grabbed the ball and wouldn’t give it back.

Have to say that I would be worried if I was the Accy Board if last nights attendance for a local derby of only 1799 for a team looking set for promotion is anything to go by.

From watching the highlights I wouldn't say that you were that much in control of the game as was suggested BUT you do have this knack of seeing games out which is all credit to your game management.

IF you gain promotion and nothing is certain, you will no doubt suffer in terms of playing budget against the other clubs but that's nothing new for clubs like ours.

As much as it hurts... the best of luck.

Our home attendance is around 40% up from our recent "norm" of around 1100 home fans.

Upward trend since the Chesterfield game in January.

We also don't count non attending season ticket holders. On a cold Tuesday I would think 100 + don't attend for various good reasons.

No mention of the two incidents when the Morecambe players manhandled the ball boys in their urgency to get the ball back in play. The first one saw Sean Mc going to sort the offender.

Ball Boys are there to provide the ball back to a player as a matter of urgency. My take is that the incident was the fault of the ball boy not returning the ball as quickly as he could. Interestingly a post has already mentioned this and it sounds like he or she agrees with my observation....but what's a minor disagreement among friends....:D

I thought the difference last night was that you had Kee and Jackson up front and they are a handful for any defence in L2. We don't have the same quality hence we're at the bottom and you're riding high. However like Christies Child says the attendance given where you are was very poor. Yes you have two teams going very well just down the road, but you must have hoped that at a tenner a pop more of the Burnley and Blackburn fans in the town would have made an effort to attend when their own teams wern't playing.

Nah, we've been rank average for quite a while now which has lost us a lot of support. Plus all the issues behind the scenes hasn't helped. Yes we have the occasional amazing result but that on it's own doesn't get the fans back. Living near Accy I just don't see the town being able to support L1 football for long, amazing season ticket offers or not. Of course Andy Holt may have very deep pockets which will help, ala Andy Pilley at Fleetwood. Anyway best of luck to ya, enjoy it while it lasts and I sincerely hope you do a Burton and push on again because it will be good for the area. Just don't see it happening like, but best of luck to ya anyways.

Our attendences are poor but have grown as the season goes on you lot bring less and less every year and there is nothing to suggest you would get bigger gates if you were in our position, but now we have a chairman who hasn't got bottomless pockets but one who has been bitten by the Stanley bug and with his enthusiasm and the staff and fans all pulling together promotion is great if we get there but the bigger achievement will be the improvements to the ground a training complex and a slowly building fan base for a future self subtainable well run club.

Must admit I thought it was strange that the ball boys did what they were supposed to till you went in front then after that they were playing statues and didn't move to return the ball at all. One of them even obstructed a player trying to retrieve the ball. Are you Cheatenage in disguise? Someone must be briefing them to cheat like that, surely after slagging Westley off for years you're not now descending to those sort of tactics? Come on Stanley you're better than that and you don't need these win at all costs tactics. Cheats never prosper in the long run.

Not sure really. There's nothing I can think of in the FA rules which say you have to provide ball boys so I guess that what they do is not governed by the officials. It's more of an ethical thing. i.e. If they start off returning the ball they shouldn't just stop when their team go in front in order to waste time. I wouldn't think they've got their own heads together and decided to do this, it has surely come from someone within the club with authority. I've seen thousands of games but have never seen this type of behaviour before. If you are trying to get a lot more youngsters in on a generous season ticket deal that's fine, but if someone at the club is teaching youngsters at the club to cheat then that's not fine and someone needs to sort it out. I obviously don't know if it happens every game or if it was just a one off but it needs stamping out for obvious reasons. Just my opinion like.

Mr.Obsever, that's quite a serious allegation against our club - not excusing the ball boys behaviour if that's what they did, I didn't see it myself but surely you don't seriously think 'someone in authority' told them to do this?
Could it not just be that the youngsters are ardent fans who thought their actions might help their team? Wrong, yes but pre-planned - I don't think so

I,m sure no one at the club suggests that the ball boys waste time but I,m also sure that they all have dads who talk football to them and "maybe" give them a little advise? Also have you never heard the fans encouraging them to "take your your time lad" under certain circumstances. Laugh it off, don't take it serious, the ref has the watch, leave it to him.
