2017/18 Prediction League; Game 44 v Wycombe (away)

Why, I hear you ask yourselves, does he keep calling them the Wycombe PocketPickers? Well, they’ve won 22 games – 11 at home and 11 away – and 14 of those wins have been by the odd goal in 1, 3, 5 and on one occasion, 7 ...............they did Swindon 3-2 with an 89th minute winner, Yeovil 1-0 in 79, Carlisle 4-3 with goals on 93 and 96, Crewe 3-2 on 92 away, and also 3-2 at home with goals on 88 & 90, and Grimsby 3-2 on 75, which means, turning draws into wins and occasional losses into wins, they’re gained 14 points by goals scored in the last 15 minutes of games .......................

Eight games played in March and April by YouFatBastardAthletic; four wins (at Yeovil 1-0, Crawley 3-2, Barnet 2-0 and at home to Grimsby 2-1) and four draws - goalless Desmonds at Notts County and Lincoln and at home to Portly Vale, and 1-1 against Cambridge ............... 16 points, 9 goals scored and 4 conceded .......... after us they play TwistySpires Utd away and Stevenage at home. The only sides who can catch them for the automatic spots are the four currently in the play-off spots – Exeter, Notts Co, Lincoln and Coventry; Exeter (76 from 43) play Crawley at home, Stevenage away and Colchester (h); Notts Co (73 from 43) play Yeovil (h), Grimsby (a) and Luton (h); Lincoln (68 from 42) meet Colchester (h), Coventry (a) – which could be a six-pointer! – Stanley (a) and Yeovil (h); Coventry play Stevenage (h), Lincoln (h), Cheltenham (a) and Morecambe (h) ..............

Waiting in the wings – but a long way behind the curtains, it has to be said - are Mansfield (67/43) and Swindon (64/43), but in reality it looks like Luton and Wycombe for the automatics and the other four for the play-offs; Stevenage, Colchester and Yeovil each play two contenders, so could have a part to play ...... current form shows Luton taking 12 points out of the last possible 15, Wycombe 9 (W2 D3), Exeter 10, Notts Co 7, Lincoln 8 and Coventry 7; Mansfield have taken 4 (W1 D1 L3) and Swindon have drawn 4 and lost 1 (also 4 points) ..... you’d maybe fancy the Grecian 2000s for the Play-off win? Or maybe not ......

Not a lot going on in the Transfer Window; nobody ProperSigned, striker Dayle Southwell sold to Guiseley (who are already relegated from the Bananarama, as are Chester) ........... Will de Havilland (known to his mates as “Moth”, no doubt) went on loan to Maidstone but was recalled early, and LoansIn were RB Tafari Moore from the Gunners, CB Nathan McGinley from Middlebrough, CF Randall Williams from Watford and CMF Curtis Thompson from Notts County

Wycombe lost 0-2 to Fulham in the EFL Cup (who fancies seeing Marcus Bettinelli in the Premiership next year? Go Marcus!) .......... they did wonderfully in the first two rounds of the FA Cup, trouncing Solihull Moors 2-0 away (and there STILL aren’t any moors in Solihull; actually there’s Sweet FA in Solihull worth talking about), then pulverising Leatherhead 3-1 at home; then it all went a bit wrong, with Round 3 ending their progress by virtue of a 5-1 reverse at home to PNE, who can still make the playoffs but probably won’t ............... Hereford won promotion for the third season running, and will be in the Bananarama South next year, and AFC Fylde – who beat Macclesfield 6-0 and Aldershot 7-1 earlier in the season – are 6th in the Conference, and will stay there if they beat or draw with Wrexham in their final game, assuming that they take something from Solihull NoMoors first; Macc need 3 points from their last two games to rejoin the EFL.

Bottom of League Two looks a done deal; TwistySpires have 35 from 42 (GD -30); Barnet have 37 from 43 (GD -25); Grimsby have 42 from 43 (-29); Vegan Greenpeace have 43 from 42 (-21) and Morecambe 44 from 42 (-13); Portly and Yeovil have 46 points, but much better GDs ............ doesn’t look thrilling for the bottom two!

We met the Chairpersons at the Wham in November, and came out with what was then a rare 1-0 win (commonplace, now!), the goal coming from Mark Hughes on 70 mins .............. Last season we drew 1-1 away (Sean Mc on 48, YFB getting their goal on 5) and managed a Desmond – a Proper one – at home, Clare on 45+2 and Matty Pearson on 63 providing the bread to wrap round You Fat Bastard’s sandwich filling of two goals on 56 and 58 ............ The Quarters finished last season 9th with 69 points, one point and two places away from the play-offs; we were 13th with 65 ..............

Billy WhizzPlayerOfTheSeasonAndAllRoundStar still leads the goal scorers’ list with 24, four ahead of Danny Hylton and Mohammed Eisa; Mr Akinfenwa has 17 in the League (joint 6th), Kayden has 15, Sean has 11 ........ Chairboys’ main scorers are the aforementioned YFB (18 overall), Craig Macfailed-Smith (10), Paris Cowan-Hall (8), Luke O’Nien (Onion!) (8), Nathan Tyson (7) and Joe Jacobson (6) ......... They’ve scored 76 in the League, bettered only by Luton, but conceded 55, which is second-worst in the top half of the table, beaten only by Swindon (64)

Deadline for entries is, as always, scheduled kick-off time, which is 3.00pm on Saturday 21st April; so; we’re up, and the Title is ours to lose (so let’s not, eh lads?) ........... W16 D2 L1 of 19, and PROMOTED! What is there left to say? Well done to every single person involved in one of the best team efforts EVER (Leicester City? Who’re dey?) We kept the Faith, and Our Heads, when all around were losing theirs (and blaming it on us) ................ Absolutely Fantastic!

Good luck to everyone! ........ Keep the Faith! ....... And thanks for playing!
