Stanleys Parade Tomorrow.

Have just heard from a good source, the bus will NOT be setting off from the ground, the reason given is the "POLICE" say they cant police it!! that seems very odd to me, other parades through Accrington have been, one the other month, seems the players etc will be boarding the bus at bottom of union st. just going the distance of that block and getting off at Broadway.if thats true is a real poor state of affairs in my view, the team have really earned this Parade, and no-one from the club has notified people who no doubt will be stood on Whalley Rd? can someone please clarify the state of affairs.:(

Put the Open top bus on normal service let the players on at the crown and take them into Accy. Prob solved.

My sentiments exactly, should have been clarified if true.

Union St to Broadway??

What kind of a parade is that??

The police can manage the carnival parade, all the way from Thorneyholme Road, why not this??

IF needed, two police bikes at the most. One leading and the other following the bus. The horses are probably busy elsewhere as it is Bank Holiday weekend which is more than likely where the problem lies. :(

Not surprising Cashy. Do we actually have any 'POLICE' left in Accy?
Bit difficult for the 1copper on duty today to be in 5 places at once!

Re: Stanleys Parade Tomorrow.

just returned from Whalley road , the police suggested we went near the Aldi store. The open top bus came from nearby as the police would not allow the open top bus to travel down Whalley Road, although we did see the team etc ...........you just could not make it up.

Re: Stanleys Parade Tomorrow.

It must have been a real "Let Down" for the players who have grafted all season and achieved the near impossible.though they didn't display this when the buses 400 yd run arrived, though J.C. did NOT look best suited, wonder if that was the reason.?

We had a private viewing of the cup in Andy's local drinking haunt saturday night when he came in with the cup after his return from the away game.
He's just as enthusiastic about Accrington Stanley as any dedicated fan.

So, how did they get down Whalley Road, the whole of Max Taxis' fleet?
Or did they form a procession, as in the old 'Whit Walks'?

In 2006, I followed the bus from Livingstone Road, into town, but this time, waited on Union Street, don't walk as good as 12yrs ago!!

Apparently they came down Whalley Rd in a standard 'closed top' bus then transferred to the open top one in town - I too remember the 2006 parade, the lads went along Queens Rd & down Burnley Rd into town on an open topped bus - either h & s 'rules' have changed since then or someone at the council is being a jobsworth

Think healthy and safety rules changed the 2006 parade was a lot better. Both Andy and Coley wasn’t happy according to his social media.

Re: Stanleys Parade Tomorrow.

There was about 6 police officers having a photo with the league trophy in town so it is poor they wouldn't allow the civic duty of a longer parade. We have had similar issues with carnivals and church walk days in recent years (you have to Marshall the parade yourself the police won't do it). Nethertheless still enjoyed the parade. Great opportunity for photos and signatures from players and to hold trophy. It must have been an impressive site to club seeing the thousands in town for them.

They came down Whalley Rd on a bus just as we would do ,the empty open top was ahead of ,they turned into Argyle St , then re appeared in the open top bus . A bit of a letdown from what was in the press , but like I said earlier we did see the team on the open top bus.

Glad I resorted to 'Plan B', & walked down to Broadway!

Plan A was to walk the much shorter distance to outside the hospital & watch them pass there.... would have been a disappointment, as then no time for me to catch up with them.

Who on earth decided that it was not safe to transport a group of people, downhill, on an open top bus? Can they only drive on the level?

funny how they can drive both uphill and downhill around haworth and oxenhope daily in the summer on hilly and narrow roads in the summer in 50 odd years old open top buses and being leylands their brakes were not great even when manufactured. lunatics and asylums again.

Don't know what J.C + J.B. must have thought, all I could think was how EMBARASSING.

The annoying thing is, you can travel on an open top tour bus around London and other cities without an escort, so why not Accrington, what's the difference? Complete and utter madness IMHO. No wonder Coley looked glum, I can understand now :(

On a positive note the pictures show significant numbers gathered in the Town Centre

Coley's face looked like he had just found out he was having the vegetarian option at the do.

P*** poor planning produces poor performance. The 6Ps seems to be the way to organise anything in Hyndburn. I feel very sorry for the children and parents that waited on Whalley Rd, so disappointing for them.

You forgot the seventh P - the police.

A sorry state of affairs after Stanley's amazing achievement put the town back on the map!
Don't think any blame can be attached to either the club or the council.
The real culprits here are the police, or rather the lack of.
Since our police presence was stripped to the bone & reduced to a rented shop on Broadway, they no longer have the resources to supervise a children's birthday party.
Sadly, like everything else today it's all down to MONEY!
Be prepared to cough-up for extra bobbies - or the party is off!

Chimer 09-05-2018 16:58

Do your childrens' birthday parties really require police supervision? Can I come to the next one?
