Re: Oxford United (A) Match Thread....
We're struggling a bit here. Ross goal v welcome but came out of nothing. Stanley trying to play good football but Oxford are an uncompromising bunch. Ref seeing all Stanley fouls but none of the niggly stuff from Oxford. Both Sam and Ross taken out off the ball. Oxford v strong town the right with a good attacking full back linking with scorer Smith. Ben having a tough night so far. We're hanging in there but need a better link through the middle. Billy isolated.

So, it's the usual standard of refereeing then?

Another brilliant away win !
|
Re: Oxford United (A) Match Thread....
Yesssssss!! We scored the least goals & still won - sign of a good team that!! :D
|
Re: Oxford United (A) Match Thread....
I have to say I’m very pleased with that!
|
Re: Oxford United (A) Match Thread....
character of the team shines through again.
Not many teams would come back from behind twice and go on to win away from home vs a team desperate for their first win. Just think, Karl Robinson was talking Oxford up for promotion. |
Re: Oxford United (A) Match Thread....
Couldn't be more pleased my match prediction was wrong - again!
Bl***y marvellous result to come from behind twice to win the game. PS. Poor old Charlton got beat at home - boo hoo! & Morecambe finally won - hurrah! |
Re: Oxford United (A) Match Thread....
What was it one of our esteemed members said, Coley will only be trying to keep us in League one. Wrong!!!! I believe Coley is trying to get us up to the championship, in doing that, we should stay in League One at the very least. We should fear no team in this league and i include Barnsley, Sunderland and other so called big teams. We are proving that we are no pushovers. Well played tonight to all the team. Obviously, i assume it was BBC Radio Oxford that called our team donkeys, well those donkeys made an ass out of your team.
|
Re: Oxford United (A) Match Thread....
Donkey Army!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Re: Oxford United (A) Match Thread....
He called Ross a donkey, but if you are getting beat by Donkeys I would not hold out much hope for the season.
|
Re: Oxford United (A) Match Thread....
I hope the 'Donkeys' dined out big time at the golden arches.
|

Marvellously resilient (and rather lovable) creature your Donkey! :)

Re: Oxford United (A) Match Thread....
Great result, and equally importantly Billy had a great game by all accounts.
|
Re: Oxford United (A) Match Thread....
We didn’t play well - but got the result.
Always a good sign but at some point if we’re not careful it will catch up with us. On to the next one ....... |
Re: Oxford United (A) Match Thread....
Even though he was a local man, I doubt even Inspector Morse could figure out how Oxford got robbed last night.
They out played, out ran, and out muscled (see Phil's half-time report) Stanley, and matched or were better in most departments except one - putting the ball in the net more often than your opponents. First half Stanley were disjointed and slow to the ball and to react. Finlay was played as a forward and his talents were wasted chasing balls constantly passed back to their keeper. But somehow, after Oxford scored a cracking goal, Stanley went in to the break level. I thought I saw Sykes lanky leg hook the ball into the net but, it was a bit of a goal-mouth melee. Oxford's second was equally impressive - do the opposition always score whenever Johnson makes a mistake? This time he anticipated a tackle on the half-way line that never came and dived to the floor, looking like an idiot, and they took the ball down his side of the pitch and rammed it into the net. Professor Coleman made two timely and effective substitutions in the second half. First swapping Brown for Zanzala, but the master stroke was that allowed Finlay to get into the midfield where his influence was increasingly apparent. Not that Brown played that badly but he'd picked up a yellow card and Stanley's midfield was just not creating enough. Next he subbed Big Ben, who was the latest right-footed defender made to play out of position at left back. Big Ben too hadn't done badly but left back is clearly not his natural position, but Anderton looked like he belonged out there. And then, of course, one difference between the two teams was our very own Sir William Kee. He was stupendous last night. Winning headers against much bigger defenders, controlling and holding up the ball despite the pushing, shoving, and kicking he endured. Really pleased that it was he who bagged a brace to seal Stanley's surprising, possibly undeserved, but gutsy victory. Well done, lads, a great night out. |

Well done, lads, a great night out.[/ There 2nd was a nailed on foul, was sat directly in line with it 100%, ref gave fouls for the same tackles all game however not for accrington which is no suprise being away from home. Lets not go round calling our players idiots you might want to get yourself on BBC Oxford , in the same category as calling them donkeys, where were u when Johnson was outstanding on Saturday? Although by no means am i saying we played well not a single Accy player did bar maybe billy. Hopefully get him firing on all cylinders now. Outplayed, outmuscled you say but won 3-2, were in league one punching well above our weight, with the odds stacked against us. Not a time for negativity after picking up 7 out of a possible 12. For those of you calling for Sykes to be dropped, that goal was for all you. Academy graduate young lad and your sat calling for him to be dropped, the lad needs as much confidence as possible! |
Re: Oxford United (A) Match Thread....
Super Billy, hopefully thats him back on the score sheets week in week out.

Re: Oxford United (A) Match Thread....
Exile’s report is spot on. Some early-season questions starting to be answered. Anderton looks a decent bet for the left-back spot. I guess that Ben just wants to play, but its not right that he’s played out of position and subsequently exposed if he comes up against a quality opponent, as he did last night in the shape of Norman. Callum is having one of those patches where his every mistake is punished, I thought he was a bit unlucky with their second last night. We have a lot of young defenders out there, Hughesy is playing an important role in getting them through these games, its a physical league, there was a lot of treatment being dished out by Oxford last night.
Coley’s tactic of trying Sam as a no.10 didn’t work too well, but the switch to have Billy doing that for Offy worked a treat, and Sam shored up the midfield effectively. Were definitely a bit lucky last night in the sense that Oxford could have been out of sight at HT, but after the subs came on we matched them. |
Re: Oxford United (A) Match Thread....
Whats yer thoughts on Ross Phil? meself i think he will make a real good un.
|
Re: Oxford United (A) Match Thread....
Great report Exile - Shows how observant I am. I had Big Ben down as a left footer...,I’m sure he pings some long balls forward with his left quite a lot?

Re: Oxford United (A) Match Thread....
Certainly a prospect, Cashy, and having been around the club a while now he's clearly earned Coley's trust over pre-season that he's ready. And to keep Harvey and Ben out of the side says a lot. He's now got a huge opportunity to establish himself in League One, not many managers would put a 19 year-old in such a position of responsibility, so I hope he keeps working hard at his game and repays Coley's faith.

He was stupendous last night. firstly how many times have we been to a home game and been so called robbed by the opposition. its going to happen to us during the season so lets enjoy the 3 points. as for billy, some had written him off after saturdays game as a division 1 player after 3 games. well done billy keep it up. |

To be honest i wouldn't worry that much if i were an Oxford Fan, given all the reports ive seen oer the performance against us, i'm sure things will turn fer em.

Re: Oxford United (A) Match Thread....
I didn't get to the away game but Coley's report was interesting. However I was a little unsure about Sykes but I am coming around to see him as a prospect of good quality. From accounts all round it was a game we really shouldn't have won but got lucky. I will take that as it has happened to us several times. That's football as they say. Good to see young Ogle getting a loan spell at southport. I thought he was ready to play in the first team. I am surprised suisa doesn't get a start more often. Ben should be playing midfield where he belongs. I don't think anyone can say which is our best team yet. After about 10 games we will know a lot more. So far so good.
