Lincoln match thread

AKA what time do you reckon it will be postponed or abandoned?

I am going for 2.30pm, but hoped it would be done by now rather than attempt to play a match during the worst part of a storm.

The ref always inspects before kick off according to the laws. Teh weather is bad now before the storm has started but the pitch is probably okay now, however it won't be in 3 or 4 hours.

Most local matches off in national league. MCFC was called off around 1100 last week for a 1630, and there would be nothing wrong with the pitch, fan safety comes in and Lincoln fans will have set off or be setting off.

Winds in Accrington from 1pm onwards forecast for between 40+ that is not football weather regardless of the pitch and not good for watching or more importantly supporters of both sides safety in traveling to and fro from the stadium call it off not just us but any club with a similar forecast.

Jesus, what’s wrong with people. We went running 16 miles in the storm last Sunday. It was shocking, ****ed it down, trees had blown over ... but we had fun and what was the alternative? Love Island on catchup? Fixing the toilet seat?

Cum on, just play the bloody thing whatever the weather or state of the pitch. Both teams are mid table.... play some of the subs bench....get it on!

The difference with subs today was that we had some decent players on the bench.
Pritchard was great when he came on.
Clark was excellent.
New lad up front will be ok when he settles.
Don’t yet see anything that good about Grant.
We were at sea a few times in defence but conditions weren’t great.

Nowt that wrong with the ref... two or three incorrect calls, and wish he’d made their player leave the pitch when he cut his head. Just a waste of time for everyone.

Re: Lincoln match thread

Wasn’t lucky enough to see the game but agree, Lord Didders, that, for the first occasion for some time, I thought the three subs strengthened the team. Not to say the subbed players didn’t deserve to start, but great to have quality on the pitch and the bench.
As to Grant, how quickly has Shrewsbury faded from the memory? ;)

Well done to the squad and management for a terrific performance.

Re: Lincoln match thread

What a thrilling match it was today v Lincoln City. We managed a victory 4 - 3 but IMHO the result could have gone either way.:idunno:
The first hour of the match was played in swirling windy conditions with some short showers. However, after an hour 'Storm Dennis' arrived with a wallop and the conditions for the players simply became awful!
To both teams credit they tried to play football on the ground but even in the first sixty minutes as soon as the ball went up in the air mistakes and misjudgments were inevitable. After the storm arrived it required a change in tactics and initially Lincoln handled the situation more effectively than our boys. Coleman certainly got the substitutions right today. The new lad up front was getting nothing out of his opponents in the second half and bringing Pritchard on was a masterstroke. So was the lads goal, in front of us in the Clayton End he controlled the ball well and pushed it five yards ahead which allowed him to accelerate into his right footed shot which went in like a rocket. We all knew it was going in as soon as he struck it!:theband::jimbo:
Bringing on the other two worked so well too. Bishop reinvigorated our physical presence up front and Finley was an added driving force in midfield.
It was great for Seamus to get on the score sheet and the winner from Finley was a well constructed team move. The winning goal sent the whole of the Clayton End and Main Stand into raptures of delight.:wave8::rose8:
It was a difficult match for the referee and whilst he didn't get all his decisions correct he was spot on with the addition of 10 minutes added time at the final whistle. There had been five substitutions and three stops for injuries the last being the longest at more than 5 minutes.
The atmosphere at the end of the match was just BRILLIANT as the Stanley players came up to the Clayton End to share the celebrations with the Stanley FAITHFUL. We BELIEVED all through the match that our players and management would get this right today and they certainly did.
:theband::s_gupjump:s_gupjump

Finally, I want to pay MASSIVE CREDIT to Andy Holt for spending the money on our pitch last summer. The pitch was just superb and held up so well even when the worst of 'Storm Dennis' swept in!:alright::alright::alright:

ON STANLEY ON:jimbo::jimbo::jimbo:
BELIEVE and
KEEP THE FAITH

Only player with a bit of passion when we were losing, rallying the other players, keeping heads up. Did the dirty work, was happy to drop deep when needed to keep BA-S higher up the pitch.
Put himself about both on the ground and in the air.
One of our better players today...

Agree with earlier comment, credit must go to Andy Holt for addressing the deep lying drainage issues with the pitch.
An expensive task but one that already looks to be paying for itself.

Lincoln disappointed to be leaving with no points.

Re: Lincoln match thread

My opinion, I don't think Bobby Grant was amazing today but I think he is a very good signing (his goal against the shrews showed his value).
Regards the game, WOW! great match played fiercely by both sides. either could have won it, Lincoln there usual physical self, dangerous particularly at set pieces, But are guile was a match particularly second half.
Clark's dribbling caused Lincoln lots of problems, his link up play with callum was another highlight going forward.
Mixed day for bursik, incredible save near end of first half but a mistake for there second goal.
Agreed quality of and use of subs made a big difference for Stanley.
Pleased we kept singing and believing on the Clayton end even when goals went in against us. With our tricky run in these wins are putting us in a great place to secure league one footy for another year and not worry about those late season fixtures. On stanley on.

Correct Exile, but also agony for those in the 2279 crowd who were there, agony for Imps fans, ecstasy for Stanley supporters, at the final whistle.
What a game! Agree with Cashman, referee wasn't fit for non-league or even park football. Lincoln could, and perhaps should, have had at least 1 man or possibly 2 men sent off for the all in wrestling that was going on. How he could book 5 of our team and only 1 of theirs is beyond comprehension. i thought i had gone to watch a football match in atrocious conditions, not mud wrestling in some backwater arena!
so 3 wins on the spin for the first time in a while, Rotherham at the Wham next Saturday, lets hope the weather gods smile on us for a change.

Cum on, he wasn’t amazing today. Missed an easy header for starters. Certainly didn’t seem in the same league as Finley or Bishop.

As a matter of interest, why has he been at non league Wrexham?

The ref/liners missed plenty Cashy. Bobby controlled the ball with his hand for the winner!

Maguire also had a handball in the first half.

The one player they had booked, was for a professional foul, stopping a break away, yet at least 2 others did the same thing, but were not cautioned?

Conditions were terrible, which made it very hard for the officials, but they do not help themselves - we just have to live with it my friend, as I doubt very much it will change.. :(

Bobby has been signed with a specific job in mind and in the main has done that job as ordered.
He won’t be keeping McConville out of the side that’s for sure once he returns.
I think he’ll keep his place Saturday because we’re going to have to be totally focused defensively. In that respect he’s better than Pritchard.
Hope Diallo stays in and puts a performance in against his old club.

According to match stats virtually identical number of fouls by each team, but 5 yellows to 1? This could really hurt us with suspensions that we can I'll afford.

Weather not as bad as forecast but bad enough to cause a few problems fro the defenders and lino on our side when looking directly into all.

Made for an entertaining game, though, and enjoyed winner's 25 mins in the marque before it was shut early again.

Not the greatest of games yesterday, for the obvious reasons :)

On reflection, I think that a draw was fair, but we all know that football, is not always fair..... :)

Bursik made a couple of very important saves.

Captain Conneely played very well and everybody was over the moon for him when he smashed in the third :)

Maguire had another steady game, as did Callum :)

Pritchard, Finley and Colby made a big difference when they came on - Joe in particular :)

Felt sorry for Dion, as I think his best position is up top, but again he gave it his all :)

The bench was strong yesterday, not a bad position to be in :)

:) :) :)

Think you are conflating two different things here.

I asked “as a matter of interest” why he was in non league.

I stated I didn’t think he had a particularly good game.

Why have you made that link?

It’s like me asking why Finley was a sub and then saying he was at fault for the goal. I would not be implying being a sub means you make errors. Zero connection between the two.

DAV007 16-02-2020 18:50

Re: Lincoln match thread

We need Finley to get his head down and work hard in training to regain his focus (something I heard - not proven), the lad is talented and should be working his socks off to get a move to a championship club to set himself up financially.

A focused 100% fit Finley is one of the best in league 1; hopefully getting dropped will help him realise he has to work hard

cashman 17-02-2020 08:04
