Cobblers’ Thread

Just trying to spike Kiwi John’s guns before he lets rip.
Btw, forecast (what’s new?) shows persistent rain, any chance of a pitch inspection?

I don't live across the road from the ground anymore, but the new pitch drainage seems to deal with heavy rainfall quite well. Not expecting the need for an inspection.....roll on 3 o'clock......::D

Can someone donate my £10 to buying an umbrella for the cameraman.
Is there no way a canopy could be erected over the camera platform for the matches even if it’s just a sheet of plastic?

.actually, the tomato plants are on the downhill slide, with life expectancy limited now. Stanley is going to have to do it with out the help of antipodean magic from later next week on..

Poor first half from us, Cobblers very direct and had more chances than us :(

If we do not get better, we will lose this one - to a poor team... :(

Re: Cobblers’ Thread

Well that was a forgetful 45 minutes haven't got going at all I know we have gone 4 at the back but who's playing where in midfield seems to me they are all central. Got to wrestle control of the game from Northampton if we want anything from this need to be better at clearing our lines from their incessant long ball tactic.

AccyMad 06-02-2021 14:54

Re: Cobblers’ Thread

Had almost forgotten how horrible Northampton are to play against, it's never a pretty game but we need to give it a bit more oomph if we're going to get anything out of this match

we will have to improve a lot in second half mid field have given very little supply to our front 2 in my book.

Could and probably should have been straight red. Fortunately only one game ban.

Re: Cobblers’ Thread

Well, 2nd half was a bit better but what a bloody frustrating game! Could hear Coley 'questioning' the referee on the way off the pitch.
In poor conditions & having been reduced to 10 men i suppose we should be grateful for a point but if only Smyth hadn't been squished by their loanee from Luton that would've been a certain goal.
One to forget & should be a better game on Tuesday against a Plymouth side who play football rather than hoof ball

andyd 06-02-2021 16:03

Re: Cobblers’ Thread

Awful game one to forget point gained two lost awful conditions with the temperature to drop below zero forecast will be a big task to get Tuesday,s game on, individual performances hard to judge defence improved second half Barclay with some decent forays forward new lad hard to tell today looks like he likes to get forward, no complaints on the sending off two silly challenges from Pritchard, note good sides don't get beat even under par.

cant weigh up how we nearly always play poor against a side at bottom end? it beats the crap outa me:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Some opinions on game, Overall even game in conditions that had to be adapted too, probably suites the natural Keith curle direct style of play. Are defence stuck up well, I remember a few years ago where we succumb eventually to aerial bombardment but not now.
Particularly Barclay and Nottingham stud up well.
Despite Dan Jewell having a moan about the ref I felt he kept control quite well and fairly.
At least another point towards the initial staying up target and then we can chip away onwards on improbable play off push. Phillips showed some good glimpses today of being the get in the box player. I feel we miss Butcher a little when he isn't in the team.
The tactics change of putting on the extra height assisted the team defensively although it lessed are flank attack ability.

Talk about after the Lord Mayor’s parade.
Only consolations were Philips’ performance, clean sheet, and one point. Otherwise frustrating and forgettable 95 minutes.
But then, if Stanley will go a score a month’s worth of goals in one match...
Difficult conditions and I can’t see them being any better for Tuesday night.

oh i can exile we always play better against better sides i think. the conditions could mean no game though was quite a few off today.

Difficult conditions for both sides and the pitch will likely get even worse with the 3 games in a week scenario. Keith Curles teams can always be difficult to beat so all in all if you cant win don't lose....so not a bad result for me.

Re: Cobblers’ Thread

Looking at today’s programme Pritchard was on 5 yellow cards.
So, did that mean he would have incurred a ban after the first yellow?
And, as far as the length of the ban, is his second yellow taken into account in any way?

Then he, and we, are lucky as that ‘tackle’ for his second yellow looked like it might otherwise have got a straight red.

Pritchard wouldn't have been banned for the first yellow. The ban for 5 cards ends after the 19th game and moves onto 10 cards before the end of the 37th game. Don't know whether he gets the ban for the red and the 2 yellows added to his total though.

Re: Cobblers’ Thread

Luck as John Coleman says plays a big part in football looking back at yesterday we got the luck Northampton didn't, they set off in John Beck style of football long ball into the corners beating the first of the back 3 bringing another out leaving 1 in the middle and keeper they really should have scored in the opening exchanges but that's why they are were they are don't score much. 27 minutes in Coley sees the problem changes it and it works but took our threat from crosses out. Small margins 1 goal would have won it going down to 10 ruined the chance to steal it but we move on but in future against long ball teams maybe start with flat back 4 or learn to keep possession more to eager yesterday especially first half to give it them back point gained.

must have watched the same game as i did. do not think stanley played that badly although a few were quieter than normal but kept going. it might not have been the most exciting of games but a typical home game against a team that no matter who plays or manage them always seem to be the same. it was always going to happen that after scoring 6 we,d struggle to score one. bristol rovers managed to keep a clean sheat as well yesterday. again its why we watch as you never ever know the outcome of it.

from their point of view playing the way they did got em a well earned point and with decent finishers could have been 3. pointless turning up and trying to play so called football and allowing us to notch another half dozen again. its not as if they are the only team that stanley face who play like this but have always seemed to find it difficult to counteract this style of football. obviously others do not have this problem as the cobblers would be in the top 4 instead of the bottom lot.

Don't totally agree I think their problem is converting chances apparently reports from a few games have said this they have some decent players and unlike Bristol they defended well don't personally think they will go down.
