MK Dons away thread.

Unprecedented injury crisis but can't or won't use that as an excuse my preferred lineup formation back to 5-3-2:-
Savin.
Nottingham. Barclay. Hughes. Burgess. McConville.
Butcher. Morgan. Russell.
Phillips. Smyth.
Subs :-. Isherwood. Rodgers. Maguire. Perritt. Scully. Bolton. Martin.

Don't agree with the formation and Phillips up top ?......... never.
Same 11 that finished Tuesday 3-5-2 Russell and Smyth up top.

3-5-2 is basically same as 5-3-2 Phillips can't surely be any worse than Russell upfront pair of them haven't particularly impressed me but Phillips looks like he wants to shoot when he sees the goal might be surprised with team selection 1 or 2 might have been declared fit to play fingers crossed.

I also think he'll persevere with Russell up front. You can't just give a player, especially a young lad one or two chances at playing in a position he's not used to. If there's no Smyth we could see Super McC up top with Russell and bring Rogers in as wing back.......But then who knows if any of the injured players are fit to play....at least part of the game.

They will have been trying all sorts in training different shapes and a few upfront but if no natural striker fit then it's square pegs in round holes I,m afraid.

The point though is without Savin,s rush of blood this would be a very poor 0-0 if and it's a big if we can suddenly find a bit of belief we could get something from the game.

Dreading Wednesday if we play like that pity about result after getting back in it but to be honest beaten by a poor side really or should I say we beat ourselves really too many off performances, we really miss Baxter's calming influence in goal, but in the engine room we certainly looked devoid of ideas losing Butcher didn't help McConville poor by his standards Morgan still finding his feet Phillips doesn't impress, positive,s if any Charles 15 th goal and a desire to at least try and play 2nd half.

Very poor team, but we made them look like Brazil !!

First half, I was counting their players, was sure they had 15 on the pitch!

Can’t believe we are still tenth, more displays like today, can’t maintain that position, hopefully when injury list reduces, will play more to our potential!

At least there was a spirited comeback, well on paper as not paying for ifollow.

Hope to get back to winning ways with a Guinness on Wednesday, but Ibased on form play-offs are very unlikely, however objective number 1 has been achieved.

I am glad Rochdale won today, would like to visit there again next season and they have been having a dreadful run. Hope Wigan stay up also, and one of Bolton and Morecambe manage it. Sheff Weds coming down would be good for us, and it is looking nailed on now.

choirboy 13-03-2021 16:25

Re: MK Dons away thread.

Poor display from Stanley today. Particularly weak in midfield where our players were simply too slow, very slack at marking and really lacking in combativity. MK Dons outplayed us all over the pitch with better skills and passing. We did well to get back into a match at 2-2 which we could have been losing 5-0 and it was poor game management not to hold onto that point! With midfield players carrying yellow cards I would have subbed one of them with 20 to 15 minutes remaining and brought on Maguire, to bring on fresh legs and to protect against a possible second yellow card/ red card. Only Stanley player to deserve real credit today was the ever consistent Nottingham. Smyth and Charles also worked very hard but didn’t get any decent service from our weak midfield. Savin and Hughes need to be told that they do not play for Man City! The Dons pitch was as poor as ours like a stodgy pudding! The commentators were annoying and poorly researched on the Stanley team. The two assistant referees interpreted the new off side rules inconsistently regarding when the flag should be raised. A good job Stanley have got so high up the table because at the moment, with all our injuries and now a lack of confidence, it is difficult to see where our next win can be achieved.
Still we have to continue to BELIEVE that we will turn the corner.

It wasn't good but we give them the first goal scoring 2 good goals to get back in it and should have had a penalty blatent shove on Phillips small margins but agree wasn't good but apart from Hull and Ipswich all slipping up again Lincoln the stand out losing to Rochdale still games to play and hopefully last 2 are out the system and we get some bodies back and confidence in playing like we can.

Yeah I know Cashy. We have had a great season so far and I am really in dreamland (with you!)

Today, unlike mid-week, we did fight our way back into touching distance of getting something out of the game, but then failed to keep hold of that precious point. So frustrating.......on Tuesday we were awful and deserved nothing...but today.......maybe we just deserved something....

Sometimes adversity makes you appreciate what you have.
Straight down the middle of the park front to back we are weak.
Baxter Sykes Conneely Bishop in that side and we win.
Add Pritchard wide and McConville in his proper position and we’re strong.
No ones fault it is what it is.
On the subject of subs I saw no one named that would have made a blind bit of difference.

So we're Savin, McConville, Phillips, need I go on looking at the bench you haven't much attacking options and getting back to 2-2 it had worked just went to sleep about in the 92nd minute and let the lad have to much room to in honesty deliver a peach of a cross for the winner.

Just Baxter playing today against that mediocre lot would have made a difference, with all the others fit and playing we would have murdered them, but we,ll never know because they weren't available so you go with what you have and to be honest we should have seen the game out for a draw.

Interesting listening to John Coleman just now seems to think that Sean was immense today and at 2-2 thought there was only going to be one winner, agree slightly with the second point but Sean no was nowhere near immense, but have to agree again about some refereeing decisions against us were woeful especially the two challenges first half on Smyth that didn't even bring a free kick but we had 5 yellow cards 2 of which he says we're very soft. But says defence no good last 2 games 7 against all he says avoidable.

Balance is required.
Barclay could easily have walked.
He could / should have been booked before he got the yellow for a cynical tackle.
I was a little surprised today at Coleys interview.
Maybe when hes calmed down he’ll think differently.

Twenty Eight. As I said earlier, I would have brought Maguire on for one of our midfield players on a yellow card.......Morgan, Barclay, Rogers plus Smyth and Burgess all very reluctant to tackle in the last fifteen to twenty minutes or just not quick enough! The Dons third goal came from one of their centre backs waltzing straight through our midfield then the ball was played out to the left and the cross in was unchallenged by Hughes. Maguire would have been able to ‘take one for the team’ and stop the centre back breaking through. Even if it earned him a yellow card too. (I hate that phrase ....’taking one for the team’). Surely Maguire needed to be used with our inadequacies currently in midfield!

When you have 5 players on a yellow a sub would be sensible any of them but Coley didn't and upto the 92nd minute it worked, even though I wouldn't say every player in Stanley's squad is league 1 standard and I will slate a poor performance after the event to say what you did is,nt a sensible post the lads need encouragement and support from " fans ".

The worst tackle of the game which resulted in Butcher going off with a badly gashed ankle didn't even warrant a foul never mind a card, I don't usually get into debates on refs but your as bad as the two Southern biased clowns commentary on the game who even had the audacity at 2-2 to say Accy deserved nothing from the game, they somehow also missed the blatent shove as well as the ref on Phillips for what should have been a penalty. I,m all for putting my hands up when deservedly being beat as at Bristol but yesterday MK were,nt good and the game hinged on a couple of things Smyth passes instead of shooting we could have gone in front. Wednesday big test but it's just another game Stanley might just surprise everyone.

By putting "fans" in inverted comments I take that as a personal slur that I am not one.
Give your head a shake.
Last comment on the subject I would hate you to read back on some of your comments when it comes to encouragement.

My only thought was whilst watching the game was that it wasn’t a matter of
substandard play, but rather that some of the ‘ replacements’ were substandard and not fit for purpose !.
I agree that our Manager had no one of quality to choose from and thus the team were saddled with these players who had little or nothing to add to the Team, which in turn placed undue pressure on the rest !.
Like everyone else I hope that injured and tired limbs are soon mended and that once again winning football returns to our Stanley scene !.

ON STANLEY !..ON TO GREATER HEIGHTS !

[QUOTE=KiTChener;1251566]Very poor team, but we made them look like Brazil !!

made em look more like gillingham and they still won. a game that showed that it takes more than just goals to make a match entertaining. even from their point of view they cannot take much from the game apart from the 3 points. just about shading a game against poor opposition is all that it was.

Maybe when hes calmed down he’ll think differently.

hate these manager interviews straight after the game anyway. everything is so raw after a defeat anyway. would be better waiting a few days and then asking him. think if someone shoved a camera in my face in the car park after a game the answers they,d get would be far different than after i slept on it.
