Barclay, Pritchard and Conneelly all apparently having late fitness tests fingers crossed any fit line up amended.

Re: Burton thread.

I would play Scully and Perritt before Russell and Phillips(from the little I have seen of them)

Re: Burton thread.

He started off OK, but has gone off the boil.

Could be a number of things really, to be honest, Tariq has also blown hot and cold.

Could just be a long hard season, away from home/family, in very, very trying circumstances!!

:) :) :)

Yeah...but you know what happens......they want to play......the club needs them.....lets hope they don't all need to be subbed due to injury.....probably better to get minutes today rather than Oxford away monday.

2nd best so far our passing is abysmal.

We have been poor first half :(

andyd 02-04-2021 14:48

Re: Burton thread.

The only positive from that half is we are still 0-0 we haven't looked like scoring no width Butcher I think has give the ball away every pass big improvement needed second half.

Midfield are lacking in every department ... Injuries shouldn’t diminish basic skills .. Hoofball Alley today I’m afraid !..Sean’s role appears to be just getting under the feet !.
BUT .... ON STANLEY !.. ON !.

Do not get Phillips.....

Re: Burton thread.

Clean sheet another point safe now but a very poor game lacking quality on both sides and some terrible misses a draw probably the right result.

Tbh, except for the first and last five minutes, Stanley looked like their priority was a clean sheet and, if it was, they achieved it.
Two mid-table teams, cancelled out each other’s efforts.
Pleased for Savin, he made some good catches, but wish he’d stick with kicking the ball from hand.
Some of the worst shooting I’ve seen for a while from both teams.

Re: Burton thread.

It certainly wasn't the most entertaining game, two teams struggling for form & on the whole cancelling each other out. Grateful in the end for a point & more importantly a clean sheet for Toby - if i could have one request, I'd ask that Mark Hughes (much as I love him) doesn't join Dan on the commentary again - bless him, his dulcet tones were enough to send anyone to sleep if the match itself didn't succeed in doing so

andyd 02-04-2021 16:35

Re: Burton thread.

Just a quick mention for one of the opposition young center half Hayden Carter on loan from Blackburn looked a very good player today calm and assured hardly put a foot wrong and could pass it too unlike a lot of our side today who resorted to hoof ball and head tennis for large parts of the game.

choirboy 02-04-2021 17:12

Re: Burton thread.

Not the ‘prettiest’ of matches today. Glad we kept a clean sheet and I think we probably just deserved to edge the match with a victory if one of the very late scoring chances had gone in. I though that Harvey Rogers was our best player today. He did really well defending against their danger man Lucas Akins and also when going forward in our attacking movements. The return of Seamus added some consistency in midfield and Colby returning up front gave us some physical presence.
Another point edging us closer to certain safety.
ON STANLEY ON
:alright:

Coley reckons he,s one of the best strikers of the ball in the side, bit harsh saying he's totally lacking in skill come into the side at a difficult time and laid it on for Colby to hit it over the bar today, can't compare him to Russell at least he looks interested whereas Russell looks completely disinterested.

Looks like I picked a great game to forget to set the alarm. Its good to get at least a point after last weeks down trou.

The midfield was not lacking in every department Sir.
After one training session our Captain was asked to do a job.
Not only did he do it he was our best man on the pitch.
Im very proud of Seamus right now.

About right Yonmon, though I would think that lack of game time, plus returning from/carrying injury played a part...

:) :) :)

I agree, Seamus certainly brought an improvement and stability to our midfield and he helped out in defence at set ball situations, their long throws for example. I thought our two central defenders also did a good job. I feel more reassured playing a back four with Seamus just in front as the midfield pivot. :alright:

Good points back 4 with Seamus Infront makes us more solid but the downside to the formation today was creativity, against to be honest poor opposition, but with all the problems we have had it was as Coley said good to get a clean sheet, we move on still plenty of football left Oxford a different proposition but a good hunting ground for us hopefully we'll find our shooting boots.

Don’t remember naming anyone in particular 28 !.. My post was a half-time opinion based on the inordinate number of misdirected passes, missed tackles..
and from one of our midfield players , giving up the chase and coming to a standstill when beaten !.
Second half was marginally better and the Captain was perhaps more involved in things.
Hope he continues in his recovery to full fitness !.

Re: Burton thread.

Thought Harvey had a fantastic game, good to see him getting forward to put crosses in the box and having a few shots, similar to the Harvey we had on loan in his first spell.
Chuffed for Toby with the clean sheet. Very mature performance and kept hold of the ball well especially when claiming high balls into his box.
Hopefully the lads who returned from injury stay injury free and we can welcome back the likes of Pritchard before end of season.

In what was to be honest a poor contest the back 4 played quite well Toby apart from some loose kicking did well will do him no harm the clean sheet , interesting that Phillips who was only on 8 minutes if Colby and Dion had taken those 2 late chances would have been credited with 2 assists, shame as the 2 points dropped now make the playoffs a big ask.

didn,t see the game but two pluses must be toby,s clean sheet for his confidence and another point which for me makes us safe.

Think Phillips suited that number 10’role behind the strikers. Gives him more freedom to create. Feel sorry for the lad with injuries meaning he’s been played out of position etc.

Josh !.. Perhaps my criticism of Adam Phillips was a bit OTT ,and when he develops a bit more match awareness, which will hopefully come his way as he plays more and more games, then maybe his overall contribution to the play will increase !. Perhaps the odd few minutes introduced as a Substitute does little to help him achieve this goal.
Like my feelings towards ALL of our squad , I wish him a fruitful and INJURY FREE future in the game !.

I'd just like to highlight how well Joe Maguire has performed since his appearance in the side. From memory he was called to play five minutes before the Wigan home game when Paul Smyth pulled up injured during the warm up. I know he has been on the bench but to stay fit like he has and play so well when called upon after such a long period out of the starting 11 shows real professionalism. Well done Joe.
